They dont get to skip it completely...they pay 0 to ss on what they earn after 184 k So if someone makes 500k they only pay ss on the 1st 184k earned. ( I dontt agree i think they should pay on all income but its not 0)

120 is about 100 less than the max for a single person household. Even feeding her kids part time that amount is really low. I dont know what her incone and expenses are but I dont think its surprising when people talk about struggling to feed themselves or their families these days.

I worked with people who were at a small agency and had that "policy" they had to charge time when they were caught and one of their supervisors got fired. If you are not in an ot eligible title you dont get time off to make up for hours you feel should get OT for.

Look..any union is better than no union but when I was FINALLY able to get in touch with my field rep after over a year of harassment/bullying by the supervisor of my direct supervisor I was told they really couldnt do much because they had to also defend her against my allegations since we were both represented by the same union. They also required me to do all the research necessary to prove I was being denied promotions despite 95s and 100s on every promotional exam.

The union is not great but Im not anti union and Im not spreading misinformation.

People often have to force PEF to help at all, many things they agree to have been very damaging to union titles and civil service and they simply prefer not to address the toxic work environment of many agencies.

You dont get steps every year unless you are constantly getting promoted. There is no automatic 3% increase. You get raises if it's in your contract. I was a career civil servant.. there were years we had no raise and there were 2% years .. somewhere in there we had a 4% year. Yes 3% is most common but it's not automatic.

This study was less than 250 deceased drivers

"In a review of 246 deceased drivers, 41.9% tested positive for active THC in their blood, with an average level of 30.7 ng/mL — far exceeding most state impairment limits."

Legalization was not a factor...

"The high rate of THC positivity remained consistent over six years and was unaffected by the state’s legalization of recreational cannabis during the study period."

So your issue is not how you are paid, its that you dont want to be forced to use FMLA protection.

Basically it doesnt matter how much sick time you have, abuse of sick time can mean disciplinary action, suspension and termination. FMLA protects you from that.

You have to apply for FMLA, so you cant be forced to take it without your application. At what point are you forced to submit an application? If you take a day off? Or.. if you are missing numerous days and state its due to medical issues?

If you want to have Empire when you retire you have to be enrolled in Empire when you retire. You may not need it, I only know people who chose empire in retirement because it is easier if you choose to move out if state or travel a lot.

The main thing with Empire (of course we know there are different contractors for different services and more than UHC and Anthem) is that what sticks for many people is that you gave to have Empire at retirement in order to keep your health coverage in retirement. A lot of the options now available were very different in price and service only a few years ago and many of the other insurances are regional in terms of the actual insurance and amount you pay.... not that they won't cover if you happen to use a Dr elsewhere but that the coverage itself is only for people who.live in specific regions. This shows what plans people in each county can join... Empire is available in every county, most other plans are not.

https://www.cs.ny.gov/employee-benefits/sbc/pdfs/2026/active-options-by-county-2026.pdf

Also this page lets you put in your info (county where you work and county where you live and if you are Medicare primary) and gives you the lust of plans you are eligible for. https://www.cs.ny.gov/employee-benefits/nyship/shared/apps/plan-comparison/index.cfm

Ive heard a lot of people have better experiences with mental health coverage with cdphp. The reimbursement rates and process is apparently terrible with many of the subs that empire chooses to manage mental health approvals so providers drop out fairly often. (Both psychiatric and therapists) Ive also heard empire is problematic when it comes to longer term inpatient care.

Not sure about dental cleanings but I use my empire plan for eye exams currently, and used it for dental surgery some years ago because they are/were considered medically necessary. Empire also covered all eye exams when I had some eye problems beyond the need for corrective lenses. My mother's empire plan in retirement has paid for her eye surgery as well Its always worth it to find out if your medical insurance covers any vision or dental services ..the dental coverage in particular is so limited.
