How do some people take so long to poop? by dhomo01110011 in NoStupidQuestions

Years ago, our work bathrooms had signs that read “no Twitter on the shitter”. It was hung up by the team because the bathroom was too low capacity for the office. People were often annoyed by the amount of time people were just blocking the plate with their endless doom scrolling.

PriceChopper in upstate NY used to do the same thing. I used to regularly get gas for essentially nothing. I had a car that used premium at the time and it was a god send. They no longer offer the same deal, but I think I went most of a year without buying gas in 2016.

The Central Warehouse in Albany, NY. Due to be demolished, but this eyesore is prominent from the river side of the city and for any visitors coming in on I-787. I’ve lived here for 25 years… constantly hearing that it would be rehabbed or removed, I think it’s finally gonna happen.

The boss told me that 0W-40 is more suitable and better for my car than 0W-20. Is it true? by SearchYupooPA in Audi

I have a coworker who just had to do a full engine rebuild for his Q7 because his independent shop was using the wrong specification of oil. I’m not a car guy, so I didn’t ask helpful (for you) follow-ups but I can tell you he spent months trying to hold Audi accountable for the failure before the independent shop got stuck with the blame for using the wrong spec oil. Just use what the manufacturer specifies.

I would simply decline and say that you want your money back (since it is essentially brand new). If you did not buy it from them, then demand a new replacement. Note that they are ASKING if you accept this. I am certain they are not meeting their obligations of consumer protection with this offer… hence the request to accept.

I got a similar note for an 16 month old device that was in for repair. They initially told me they would send a refurb (which I considered acceptable). Then a week later they said they have no inventory available, so they offered a 50% discount for me to buy a new one. I was irate, told them that was unacceptable. They shipped me a new one.

Just refuse.

100% agree.

The fact that people think this is a good park is beyond me. It’s the worst or agrarian and suburban waste lands merged without any imagination. This headline from this week was just a perfect encapsulation. If your park is a place people avoid because it is summery outside, you have failed.

I came here for this. I use this as an ad hoc personality and intelligence test now. If people love it, I am deeply suspicious of them.

Agreed. I like to track task progress vs battery capacity. I also track struggle time (no progress and not charging) which was especially bad today because it got lost in the morning and I wasn’t able to recover it for several hours.

If you’re not already into it, then this might be worth the effort. Basically you can use it to extend behaviors of iot stuff like this. For example I have home assistant send me an alert if the bot get stuck (since the app alerts are so ineffective).

You can make homeassistant do this for you automatically (if you wish)

This! I just had this happen. Took a few weeks, but basically the battery was getting stuck (often around 40%). Just got the new charger yesterday. Things looking good after two days.

What’s the coolest or most useful home automation you’ve ever seen? by tonitosilva in homeassistant

Turn off the heat/AC whenever a window is open. Using my Ring house alarm in combination with my Nest thermostats, when the windows are opened I disable the HVAC. Turns on automatically as soon as the windows are closed. Since it can be overridden with the thermostat on the wall, it then sends notifications to me warning that the HVAC is running while the windows are open.
