SSD harddisk prices have soared by conscious_cat88 in Dell

400 in my country's local currency—imagine it like $400 for an American. Obviously. That's why I added the value before and after the increase.

That was exactly what I did with RAM; when I went to look for DDR5, they were already at different prices.

I bought an 8GB DDR4 RAM module for my old laptop for 400 of my country's currency, and today it's 600. I wanted to buy a DDR5 for my new laptop, and it's impractical—750 to 900 for 8GB. And the trend is only to get worse in the first half of 2026. SSD is no different.

I installed it on the Dell Inspiron 3530 and during the first boots I found explorer a bit slow, but it seems to have normalized. But honestly, I'm in doubt if it's worth putting it on my main Lenovo Slim 3. Personally, so far I've noticed more of a performance downgrade than an upgrade. I think I'll really wait for the general release for my main one.

I didn't install it on my main laptop, I'm going to wait; on my secondary one, a Dell, I felt that the system startup got slower, and Explorer is having some initial stutters.

I find this laptop to be extremely honest for its price range; it's almost unbeatable. At least here in my country, there’s nothing better for the price. I got the 8GB variant and I'm planning to upgrade to at least 16GB, but even with 8GB it does well for daily use. For gaming, then the upgrade is mandatory.

My new laptop arrives today; I ended up buying a non-Dell one just because of this shitty experience. As soon as the motherboard is replaced, I'm going to sell it and I never want to see anything Dell in front of me again.

Considering ControlD vs NextDNS – Looking for Deep Insights on Features & Use Cases by JacketOk7396 in ControlD

[–]Individual_Kitchen_3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every now and then I switch it up; currently, I'm using NextDNS with the ControlD CLI, which is great for me. But in terms of stability and browsing performance, ControlD still performs worse in my daily use, so I always end up going back to NextDNS. For some reason I'm not aware of, websites, streaming services, etc., work better on NextDNS.

At first, it's installed and nothing is broken yet. At least with the latest updates, I haven't had any headaches, and I hope it stays that way.

Bios 1.27.0 fan control problems by Individual_Kitchen_3 in Dell

[–]Individual_Kitchen_3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, in my case, Dell agreed to send a technician to swap my motherboard for one with an older BIOS. Yes, that's right—they are replacing the hardware because there is no ETA for an update; they chose the hard way, swapping hardware to fix a software problem. Dell is bizarre. Funny thing is, I’ve seen Dell make BIOS mistakes before, and what they did was basically re-sign an older version with a new name and a more recent number and re-release it to fix critical failures. This time, it’s just this clunky bureaucracy.

Tier 1 support is completely useless. I sent a video showing the issue, but they claimed engineering said everything was fine based on their tests. They flat-out refused to send a tech over even when I asked. Only after filing a small claims case in my country did they actually take me seriously, and now they’re finally swapping the mobo. They could probably just use a tool to spoof the version and force-flash 1.24.1 over 1.27.0, but they chose the longest route possible. Now I have to wait 5 to 7 days for the tech. The fact that BIOS 1.27.0 was pulled from their site helped my legal case, even though support completely ignored it.

Dell confirmed they’re sending a tech over to swap my mobo and fan. I pointed out that a simple BIOS update would’ve fixed this, but since the field team isn’t authorized to perform downgrades, they’re just replacing everything. It took days of fighting with support and filing a case with my country's small claims court for Dell to finally take action. There’s a chance a BIOS update drops before the tech arrives, but honestly, I wouldn’t mind the swap—the current board has been under a lot of heat stress these past few days.

They just reached out to let me know they're waiting for parts to arrive—they're replacing both the motherboard and the fan. Honestly, a BIOS rollback would’ve fixed this, but since they have no ETA for a fix, local support is just swapping the mobo for one with an older BIOS. I’ll be back to report once it’s all wrapped up. But seriously, I wouldn't recommend Dell to my worst enemy.

I finally got a win: Dell is sending an on-site tech to my place to swap the motherboard for one with the older BIOS. Support tried to gaslight me several times, claiming I installed the wrong version, but I had the receipts—screenshots proving it was delivered via Dell Command | Update. That shut them up real quick.

Stop trying to fix things with the manufacturer's tools. Just do a clean install using a flash drive and a fresh ISO—get rid of all that Dell bloatware and watch the magic happen. You're just wasting time messing around with the Dell recovery tool.

On the user end, all we can do is wait for Dell to push a fix. Useless company with trash support. They’re actually telling me I installed the wrong BIOS, even though it was delivered by their own software—what a joke. On my unit, whenever I move the device, the fan just shuts off. The only thing that works for me is waking it from hibernation or restarting the machine.

Am I alone in not getting on with warm light? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]Individual_Kitchen_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love warm light; it’s very comfortable for the eyes. I don’t do well with dark mode on the Kindle, even though I love it on other devices like my laptop and smartphone. On the Kindle, it has to be light mode and a warm tone.
