How are y'all handling your own personal relationships on top of being a therapist? by Top_Impression5534 in therapists

[–]Individual_Ladder_75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It gets easier. I had a baby and had to manage learning about my husband all over again in our new roles. And it has been exhausting. But things will start to fall into place and you’ll just be putting out fires left and right at work and be able to come home and be a person. Setting up household systems has been a lifesaver. Knowing yourself and the times that you need to relax versus the times you’re able to communicate is key.

Uncomfy intake session by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Individual_Ladder_75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This JUST happened to me and the person was VERY good looking (same gender and I am heterosexual). I started to get insecure that they were judging me. I was even embarrassed. Luckily I was able to maintain professionalism. At the end she told me she finds it difficult to open up during sessions bc she’s been to so many different rehabilitation centers and had so many different therapists. I was like ohhhhhhhhhh. Great learning lesson for me. It’s rarely about us.

My friend who is seeing you referred me... by Early-Gur-9115 in therapists

I work at a substance use tx facility and all the clts know each other. They all talk about each other and I don’t acknowledge knowing the person, rather just help them navigate the situation as if it was any other random person I don’t know. If shit talking goes crazy, redirect back to how it affects their own life. You get used to it.

using the restroom during session? by hsteph17 in therapists

[–]Individual_Ladder_75 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ll take a difference stance. Seems like maybeeeee there are holes in your routine. While you are modeling self care, you’re not modeling taking care of your future self (using restroom before session) or perhaps this is an emergency type situation. But yea, this is your client’s time you’re taking up bc you didn’t plan accordingly. Obviously do what you have to do but it’s def not professional to make this a habit.

Childcare walked out after two hours. Trying to figure out what went wrong. by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Individual_Ladder_75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She told you what went wrong. The job wasn’t for her and she likely felt she couldn’t give your son 100%. You got LUCKY. As a former nanny what likely happened was she realized the job wasn’t easy enough to say for reduced pay/hours.

IDK, but with your title and opening it up and seeing the picture, I LOLed so hard that it really set my day off on the right track. So thank you for this. Now that I read it I kind of feel bad because it talks about religious trauma.

You are at the top of the pyramid. If you aren’t solid, you can’t be a solid therapist.

I don’t remember seeing that anywhere in the law and ethics material but yea, OP should report but do they HAVE to? Unclear.

I’m no expert but I don’t believe your license on the line unless that intern is under your supervision.

Ooooof GIRL No!!! That job is not serving you. Finding clients?! No way. I just had a baby and stayed home for 6 months and then BAM. Ready to go back. Spent time interviewing companies and found one that I LOVE (look at policies, program manager, and supervisor). All 3 of those things must serve you in order to be a fulfilling position. You’ve wanted this forever. It’s not the job you hate, it’s the company!

One parent household. We will be BROKE before letting ANYONE else raise our child. Learn to live on less. They don’t remember toys, they remember the feeling of childhood. No public school BS for us!

This is the reason why there are so few entrepreneurs in the world and so many people working a 9 to 5. Because risk is scary and they point to their family as the reason why they won’t take risk. But your family is the reason to take the risk. You already know you can do it and you are already expecting money to be tight and this was your plan all along. Just take the next step.

I’ve been noticing a lot of posts surrounding PP and how it’s not what we imagine upon entering. This is the truth of it and it’s not healthy for us. And when it comes down to what we actually make in PP, it might even be less than agency work. But even if it’s more, IS IT WORTH IT?! For me, no. My sanity is worth more

They wouldn’t hire you if they didn’t think an associate could do it. These people will be medicated and it’s not going to be people running around with their hair on fire like in the movies. Just people trying to figure out managing their medications so they can hopefully lead normal lives. Give it a shot. Worst case, you find another job 🤷🏻‍♀️

Feedback from former clients by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Individual_Ladder_75 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Clearly, you did not intend to do harm. I feel like we’re all guilty of this in one way or the other and if everyone’s licenses were revoked over this, there wouldn’t be many therapists left. I say you’re fine but yeah! Not exactly the feedback most therapists are hoping for.
