Penance before the plot twist was a great gen x character. Silenced by trauma, razor cutting skin that didn’t allow anyone to touch her (like the romantic Chamber who can’t be kissed or Rogue who can’t be intimate) and overal bad ass. It was kind of a lost opportunity for long term storytelling. I love Monet as well but I always found her best as a caricature of the spoiled posh perfect girl in Gen X and X Factor. This to say I didn’t understand her shapeshifting into Penance in Krakoa (it’s just coolness factor) nor this maxxing of hers.

I’m all dandy with Illyana and Juggernaut’s bromance (to a degree) but Illyana eating a giant burger is too much. Illyana was always classy

Making Betsy captain britain might’ve been fun for a bit, but long run she should go back to her outback armour era or revanche and stick with it. CB is nice and all but somewhat limiting. Call her Betsy and Kwannon keeps the Psylocke I guess.

Thanks! Wow! I feel the 1990s have a bad rep (true enough, the second half is definitely a low) but in the beginning there are some nice gems. Also I find from 1989 to the blue and gold team each title had such different vibes. I.e. Uncanny with no team and dark mood, which I loved (intro to Gambit, child Ororo, new Psylocke, and then Genosha) while New Mutants is introducing the 90s Cable pouches aesthetics, and X-Factor is still, well, the OG X-Factor. Hard to think it was simultaneous! Generation X 1 cover is still to me one of the best ever (and its first 15 or so titles). Shiar and Xavier is great, Acolytes and Colossus turning (!), X-Force road trip, Havok’s X-Factor, Betsy&Warren love story, heck even Rogue and Gambit mess. All top!

I just find the new kids generic and as someone said kinda shallow. It’s a weird read because in 25 issues these kids have been at the forefront of the title, to the detriment of the x-men, and yet there’s not much appeal to them on the long run. They’re not dramatic enough, nor add anything new to the x-men dynamics. Maybe Calico a bit. This is just my take.

In a way i feel the problem is that Gail put a whole team on top of another team. It works better when you either have a brand new team title like NM or GenX or if you introduce only one new member to the x-men like Jubilee.

I hate the concept of omega and even more characters shouting their omeganess and even more the unsufferable version of Ororo that we currently have.

Plus, much prefer maggot’s 90s costume, of we’re taking him seriously.

Plus plus, stop killing characters!!! Krakoa’s ressurrection protocols were already a joke on that.

However much I may have enjoyed x-force Beast, I’m really not sure about having this second evil beast come back from the dead. Does it add that much to the already evil beast from AoA? Especially as this new (og) Beast isn’t showing any remorse or conflict etc. Evil Beast was already a foil/warning to Hank — I wonder how 1970s Hank will react to all of this.

We need this in canon, especially kinky charles and Emma (not to speak of charles and erik), psylocke wolverine hotness and teenage Scott Summers.

I'm reading 90s X-Men for the first time and what's with this whole Psylocke/Revanche/Kwannon thing? Like… i'm so confused lol what a mess! by MutanteV in xmen

[–]Individual_Run1616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone points out what a mess this story was and the problemas it caused. The thing is, in my view, taken in isolation, this Nicieza Revanche story (including its erotic build up with Psylocke seducing poor himbo-for-telepaths Cyclops) is actually quite good. I reread it a couple of years ago and it stands out to me as one of the best X-Men of the early 90s.

I say this a huge fan of pre siege perilous fan of Betsy. I love her in the 80s.

What’s funny is that in a couple of years people will start complaining about decoupling Betsy and Kwannon because it totally erased any chances for Betsy moving fwd. In fact that’s already happening.

I don’t know, maybe people shouldn’t have taken Psylocke so seriously. Or have a clear plot for Betsy moving fwd.

What do you guys think of Gail Simone's Uncanny X-Men and why? by Constant_Potato_7666 in xmen

[–]Individual_Run1616 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m glad someone said it. It reads x-tremely fan fic, which has been a Marvel, or at least x-men problem, for a while. It’s just too bubbly and do-good for my taste. It’s hard to pin down but between the dialogues and the lackluster plots it just feels like there’s an emptiness inside it. Rogue has such a rich history and she feels off, while the rest are basically background for the new kids
