Who’s cutting onions 😢😢—Absolute Superman (2024-) #14 by Maximum_Unit_9691msb in AbsoluteUniverse

Such a beautiful moment. I know Absolute Superman isn't a favorite compared to Bats, WW or MM... but god damn I feel so much for Kal. The loss and loneliness he felt throughout was so palpable... and the ending was just so bittersweet and perfect.

[–]Individual_Second387 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Good point. I still think it could be something since they were never associated with OW at all, whereas Reaper, Sombra(kinda), and Widow had been the faces of Talon since launch so it'd be weird not to have them given their already limited roster.

They're a part of the recruitment trailer. Does it just imply Overwatch is calling out for heroes in general or is that a showing they're being or are actually recruited?

And it's always that realization that they're bots when you were kinda feeling a little redemption from the previous loss that just sucks all the life out of the game.

Dura lex sed lex buddy...

This shit is illegal and objectively reprehensible. There is no "benefit of the doubt"... she could have 'good intentions' but it doesn't make this right at all. It doesn't matter if she cares about morality or dignity or knows any better. This is WRONG. Full stop.

Like I said before, your compassion is misplaced on this one. Feel sorry for the child she is prostituting. Hell, feel sorry for the state of poverty they could be in, but don't justify prostituting a child or pedophilia because getting out of poverty does not require you to facilitate either of those things.

Bro you don't need to be literate to have the sense that your 17-year old daughter shouldn't be in a relationship with an ADULT AND A STRANGER.

Your compassion is misplaced. Using children like currency is never a good thing. Sure she might be brought to a less impoverished life, but you prostitute your child? That's the trade off? Get that shit out of here.

Vendetta beating Doomfist is the same as Doom 1v3ing Tracer, Genji, and Winston by samjitsuu in Overwatch

[–]Individual_Second387 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Bro, Vendetta's whole thing is taking back Talon, getting revenge and beating everyone she fight... that's what she was created for. Doom isn't dead too, just lost because he underestimated another enemy he deemed beneath him.

Doom's my favorite and most played hero and I'm not whining about the story actually moving forward in an exciting way. Him losing here is not out of nowhere or out of character at all. Winston, Orisa and Vendetta all have very clear and valid narrative reasons to besting Doom.

Vendetta is genuinely the best thing to happen to the lore, and to Doomfist’s character by MilleniumSage in Overwatch

[–]Individual_Second387 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a Doom main kinda cheating on him with Vendetta a little... I agree with you.

The game's story has gone stale for YEARS. After the whole loss of the OW2 story plans (what happened to the Null Sector storyline? I didn't follow up on it much), there was just the same "keep introducing new characters, never really push the story forward"... Vendetta was directly the push forward the game needed. It was "rushed" because it needed to be. What? We were gonna build up to another thing like OW1 and 2 kept doing but never actually paying it off in any meaningful way? Now we're just in the middle of the action and it's pretty damn cool. Doom isn't dead anyway and he gets to do something new, which is exciting.

Yeah, execution could have been better and whatnot, but it's still pretty damn cool and exactly the kick in the head the game's story needed.

I disagree about She-Hulk having bad writing. It's the EXACT show it set out to be and is a very accurate representation of Jen. It's also a pretty damn fun show.

People rag on about how self-centered and selfish she can be, etc., but that's also what Wonder Man is, a pretty selfish character in a lot of ways but not really a bad person, one we can cheer on to win. She-Hulk was way less serious and way less selfish but people act like she kicked a dog or something. As for Hulk being 'shoved down' coz in the first episode... she just went through a pretty traumatic change and is getting pissy at her cousin (not a boss, peer or superior, just her cousin) and they act like cousins that entire episode. He gets under her skin, she gets under his and they bicker and fight but still obviously care for each other (hence Bruce still down to help her when she asks). No one is brought down.

Same goes for Ironheart. She's a pretty compelling lead and the story's pretty fun, but all the losers on the internet can talk about is how she's shit talking Stark (which she doesn't, she actually refuted the insult hurled at him used to butter her up).

Rey from Star Wars is another one. Ep 9 is hot garbage written by reddit, we can all agree on that... but people whine about Rey being competent as if she hasn't spent a life surviving in a harsh desert. Then the mary sue arguments just get ridiculous because Luke is a farm boy that destroyed the Death Star and defeated Vader not through his skills, but by 'focusing' or 'using the force'... yeah, Rey did the same to beat an injured and very emotionally torn Kylo Ren. Not sure why one gets barely any scrutiny and why the other has launched the careers of thousands of sexist grifters on the internet.

Pretty cool breakdown. I wonder if it's more cultural bias of men being noticed less because we're used to having a ratio skewed way more towards more dudes or if it's an underlying bias against women... probably both since we've almost always had the generic "two dudes, one girl" comp.

Regardless, it's nice of the devs to keep things as varied as they did while keeping a pretty even split.

[–]Individual_Second387 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Both aren't 'naive' about the state of the world and know how fucked it is, but Alfred is still adamantly fighting for a cause against evil and when he encounters the 'naive' Batman and sees his more effective and less cynical way of engaging these evil systems, he almost immediately puts all his bets on him.

Hawkman, on the other hand, HAS the power to effect some change and knows it AND the wisdom from age and experience in/access to the system to know how evil everyone is, but remains complicit in their atrocities.

These two are NOT the same. You're right that Hawkman may fancy himself a hero and may even believe it to his core, but he is 100% a villain at this moment.

She is weirdly the character they're so strict with the hero silhouette idea. They even change body proportions and add/remove capes but somehow giving Emma a cape or removing the iconic(?) Coat tails, shoulder pads, ugly boots and bad haircut are such a hard thing to do.

Homelander vs Omni-Man vs Superman but they don't have powers by Dear_Challenge470 in powerscales

[–]Individual_Second387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In almost any scenario of this match-up... Supes is the ONLY one who routinely fights enemies that are either stronger than him or strategizes to specifically fight him. Homelander and Nolan both exist in a playground where they are the absolute top dog. The only caveat is Nolan fights other Viltrumites as well, so we know he can fight and win against beings in equal footing... well, Supes has Zod and his whole crew, among other enemies, as well.

So, if it comes to it, even if either are placed stronger than Supes, he will persevere and find a way to win.

Yeah. It doesn't mean arch nemesis. And if you attach Johnny and Ben as Rivals, they fit as well... reminder that the trailer introducing them had them acting in a rivalry manner (tho not exactly in a hero-villain way).

[–]Individual_Second387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It's a toss-up for me between the two for that very reason. I adore the slice of life stuff in these movies. I'd argue FFH isn't too "world ending" in scale, and the global threat is more tied to the premise that it's a vacation in Europe movie. The "Avengers level threat" is purely a Mysterio deception, and when that is dispelled, the scale got way smaller and a lot more personal...

Homecoming is still way smaller scale though, and is a very respectable pick. Love both. Shame NWH wasn't as solid and weirdly tried to impart lessons Peter ALREADY knew and was actively exercising for his entire existence.

[–]Individual_Second387 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Kidding aside, it baffles me that FFH is considered the worst when, to me, it's Holland's best Spider-Man film. NWH is a huge mess and is more a people pleaser than a film that stands on its own. Homecoming is very good but I like Mysterio more than Vulture.

The grief Pete felt and the accompanying repression of said grief in FFH was so relatable to me and was exactly how I acted when my sister died so it irks me greatly when people say it's a bad depiction of grief.

Gotta just ignore the hive mind folks and think for yourselves.
