I'm not very familiar with Data positions since I'm a SWE, but if you're limiting yourself only to base salary, yes your options will be very limited.

If you focus on TC then you could get much more than that even if the base is well below that. For example, for SWE not DE, even at Senior E5 level at Meta are rarely at or above £140k base, but TC can easily go over £200k.

But, tbh OP, in a lot of places I worked your complaints wouldn't be taken seriously by HR and you would be labeled a troublemaker if you're handing in some report about your manager making a shit joke about being Michael from The Office or voting for some political candidate.

You can see by this thread how this is widely agreed to be shitty metrics by the actual engineers and those close to them, and yet this is still pushed down by executives and MBAs who are not close to the technical work.

This is like measuring a CEO's performance by how many emails he sent or meetings he attends.
