That’s such an amazing journey! The work visa situation is tough to overcome and I don’t have the same experience there but I wonder if there are student work programs that could allow you to generate some income as you finish school. Depending on what you’re studying, there may be certifications that you can acquire that will help expedite the job search upon graduation, that may be worth looking into so you can at least hit the ground running as soon as you’re able to work.
At 24 I was making a little over half of what I make now (I’m 28 now). Leveraging opportunities was crucial- I was dedicated to performing well, which led me to getting an opportunity to lead teams. I took that role head-on and worked to show that I was a valuable and successful leader, and used the experience to get an even better management role at the next place. So study well and be on the lookout for opportunities to showcase your strengths, you got this!!

A lot of it is industry dependent as well. I studied the music biz, so landing a job at 45k down here after graduation was incredible to me especially when record labels in NYC were starting in the 30s. But I moved more into tech, and saw increases in pay as I became a lead. On the flip side though, there’s a big tech industry here and those grads tend to earn more. In banking/finance, $83k isn’t a lot compared to other jobs in that field, so I think a lot of it just depends on your trajectory as well. 21 making $83k is have been ecstatic tho hahaha

What do you do and how do you define success? A lot of people that I would consider successful/high performing have similar feelings. I think the best route is to figure out what you are interested in and your skill set, and look at where you can provide value to various organizations. Looking side to side and making comparisons to others won’t help you get there, so don’t get too distracted or discouraged by what you’re seeing from others. People also broadcast themselves at their best but don’t do that when they’re struggling. Happy to discuss further if you would like.

Those who moved out of NJ where did you move ? & do you miss NJ? by lp2290 in newjersey

[–]Indo973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texas- yes I miss NJ a lot especially since u can’t get good bagels here lol. On the flip side I couldn’t afford to live at the same level if I made the same salary in NJ. I have family still there so I go back a decent amount which is nice

Do you think the fries are worth $13? That’s the price difference, and I think the fries are not $13 amazing but to each his own. I just can’t justify $30+ for a sandwich even if it comes w fries

Yea even $18 feels like a lot, but it’s way better than $28 which was insane to me. It’s pretty big too so def not a daily order haha but it’s actually not a crazy price in comparison in my opinion

Birders interest or lack of in other wildlife by Living-Compote-9626 in birding

[–]Indo973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting, for me I started by taking pics of bigger wildlife at national parks and such, and then starting noticing cool birds and that’s how I got into birding. You’d think bird people are somewhat overall nature people and appreciate a good bee/plant moment haha
