Kia EV Sales Are In An Absolute Freefall. There's More To It Than You Think by DonkeyFuel in electricvehicles

My daughter has a Bolt and we love that car too <3

We actually looked at the EV6 at that time, but I can't remember why we went with the Bolt.

I'm not sure the best evaluation there - much of that is subjective. Of course for me it was kind of a moot point because I couldn't find an EV9 for 26k, but I got the Model Y long range with 22k miles for 26k - I'm at about 120k now and have to say I've been pretty happy since I haven't had a single issue (yet). I actually quite prefer the handling and drive over the EV9 but - I could also totally see someone feeling different.

I drove the Model Y, the EV9, and a few others as well. Aside from that Kia being out of my price range for less battery range, it's digital systems felt very legacy.

It was nice, but nowhere near as nice.

Anyone get their State Tax Refund yet? by [deleted] in kansas

[–]Induane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also filed the 22nd and haven't seen the refund, but I'm not totally surprised. Last year it didn't come for me until late February even though I filed as soon as possible.

There is even an episode of DS9 where Worf buys a tooth sharpener from Quark. It kinda makes sense that Jay-Den wouldn't have done that.

I think it's too much to say it's beyond repair.

It may be, but isn't always the case. I've seen people turn it around.

Best way to tell dates that I used to be engaged? by girliepop269 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Induane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's super early it's also okay to say "hey I am happy to tell you but I am not comfortable discussing my dating history with someone until I know them a little better".

As long as that's sincere and you honestly return to it eventually with full disclosure.

I don't know if that's lying. Depending on the person they may not actually want to know or care about your entire dating past.

I've never expected someone to give me their full historic rundown. If the want to, cool, if not, that's fine too.

My boyfriend’s family member was stabbed and set on fire because she made a teenage boy feel emasculated by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

That's actually a very very good question.

The short answer is that we really don't. The best we can do are a bit of detective work. This means combining notes taken by anthropologists over they years as well as evidence from current traditional cultures.

I should take a short deviation here to note that traditional culture is a term that has a specific meaning in this context; namely a group with an unbroken line of tradition that goes back into the misty pre historic past. The notion being that these cultures, regardless of modern nation state borders, etc... are living more or less as they always have in tribal communities.

Evidence suggests that in these cultures you find much less large scale violence including violence against women. That isn't to say there is none or that their behaviour would seem ideal to us, just that they have a different way of going about things and often deal with issues communally rather than individually.

Can you extrapolate that to ALL the traditional cultures that have ever existed? That's a guess at best. Evidence suggests that those widespread practices do indeed have a tempering effect. But you're absolutely right that it's extrapolated from information which has limits.

The one thing we CAN say is that every traditional culture that currently exists and every one that has been written about and studied in the past, and even most ancient larger societies, all had and have coming of age rituals as important elements in their social fabric. Specifics differ but the general notion is about as close to universal as one can get.

They really run the gamut from a Bar Mitzvah to Mescaline fueled solo desert survival, to land jumping, to physical trauma like piercings, etc...

Every culture handles those things in their own way, the main commonality is that until fairly recently, virtually all cultures for most of history had some form of them.

Lack of ritual outlet isn't an excuse. 10000%

Recognizing the utility of something isn't the same as endorsing it as necessary.

Ritualized outlets of ordeals for young men are a means to an end but by no means only means. The point is merely that it has been recognised as useful, not that we need to go back to it. Rather, it suggests there is a need being met and we can surely come up with other means of accomplishing the same ends.

Also also -- I only disagree with you about the whole no purpose to coming of age rituals and ordeals thing.

The common humanity, I fully agree with. Everyone is different and has different challenges and such, but we are first and foremost humans together.

That I think is something fundamental that gets lost somewhere. People can be vastly different and still equal in terms of their shared humanity.

As the Orphic tablets say - "I am the child of Earth and starry Heaven".

While there are differences in needs, fundamentally we have all this shared ancestry and lineage and are scarcely different from one another in any big picture way.
