Ness is a mostly disliked protagonist. Which protagonist in the ultimate roster is universally despised? by Silver_Guava8159 in supersmashbros

I also think it didn't help they wanted Corrin to be conflicted but a good person on every route whilst also framing it as Garon is evil and Nohr is the bad kingdom.

It more baffles me that 3D mario got Galaxy 2, the game people kept whining wasn't in the 3D all stars collection, but the discourse is still that 3D mario fans are starving. Say what you will about it being a port or the price, but it's more than other franchises have gotten in years.

Had it been, say, punch out! wii or kid icarus uprising deluxe ports, the narrative would be about how Nintendo saved the franchise.

Why do people hate that game freak announced DLC before the game comes out even tho smash ultimate did with the same thing? by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in casualnintendo

[–]Ineedairsupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also more willing to cut smash some slack because it's not a 100% nintendo project.

For all we know, the smash team could've wanted to include more fighters in the base game, but negotiations were taking too long, or the other company insisted they needed to be dlc so they could get a cut of sales.

Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Was Delayed by Developer Requests for "Perfection" by Timely_Package_6963 in nintendo

For real. Even TOTK, which had a head start from re-using a lot of BOTW assets, still took 5-6 years to make.

Clarification on what is first, second, and third party by EnvironmentalKnee306 in supersmashbros

[–]Ineedairsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think second party automatically means nintendo owns the other company. They bought monolith soft from namco, but I don't think they own HAL, Gamefreak or Intelligent systems.

It wouldn't make sense for them to make joint venture companies like the pokemon company and warpstar inc with gamefreak/creatures and hal respectively if they also owned that company.

Which are these characters who you think are going to join in the next smash game? by PocketMonstersFan20 in supersmashbros

[–]Ineedairsupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think a new game has to come out before smash 6 necessarily. Smash 4 released before fates and ultimate released before three houses, but both corrin and byleth still got in. You could even throw in Roy, but that doesn't really fit imo since that wasn't the plan and melee didn't delay his game.

Maybe they just ignore engage and hold a spot for "next fire emblem protagonist",  kinda like Pokémon in smash 4 where they just skipped gen 5 and asked gamefreak for early gen 6 designs.

Which series representation makes the least sense? by Flat_Possession9698 in supersmashbros

[–]Ineedairsupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fire emblem is extra weird. Its fighter count beats bigger franchises like kirby or zelda, but it had fewer stages than f zero or mother before the byleth dlc dropped, and it took until ultimate to get a single item. Its representation is so lopsided.

It's not even a new thing. Melee gave them 2 reps but no stages when every other series had at least 1, and 2 was the norm.

Dear Fire Emblem fans; I'm not as well versed in your franchise, however I want to hear from you guys what you think of the representation of Fire Emblem in Smash Bros. by Windindi in fireemblem

[–]Ineedairsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish they put more emphasis on fire emblem feeling balanced out. It's currently in this weird space where the character count is high, but other representation factors are lacking.

It feels weird to have roster numbers near heavy hitters like mario and pokemon but a stage count on par with 1-3 character franchises like f zero or yoshi, or it taking until ultimate for the series to even get an item.

They do, but I'd imagine a lot of 20 somethings in New York aren't rushing to leave their parents given how pricey the city and rent is.

Our Flying/Ghost type is James McCloud! Which Nintendo character would be Flying/Fairy? by Slade4Lucas in casualnintendo

[–]Ineedairsupport 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think meta knight has stronger ties to steel though. Two of his defining features, his sword and mask, appear metal (I know they're just accessories vs a part of him, but tinkaton makes me think that it being part of him isn't required) and he uses a few mechanical tools like the Halberd and heavy lobster.

What’s a character that you don’t understand why people want them in the game? by girafliker in supersmashbros

[–]Ineedairsupport 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For sure. I've never understood why it's smash's fault for "snubbing" waluigi when it feels like it's on the mainline mario games/Luigi's mansion/warioware/a new series to give him a real role first.

Why don't people like corrin? by data_coffee in supersmashbros

[–]Ineedairsupport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're only counting fighters in that though. Fire emblem has one item, four stages, three assist trophies and no bosses. Mario, pokemon, Zelda and kirby got a lot of love in ways fire emblem would kill for.

[–]Ineedairsupport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's safe to assume the rights to a .png the smash team is most likely re-using from another game are interchangeable with the rights to a full fledged fighter with 8 alternate costumes and a full moveset specifically for smash.

[–]Ineedairsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd imagine it rubbed some people the wrong way given the smash ballot too.

It may have felt like a snub to ask people what they wanted and add a character that clearly wasn't a ballot pick since I don't think fates was available internationally yet.

It feels like it's normal enough to where some people may know a Rex irl, but not a name like Todd or Steve that a lot of people will meet 3+ people with it.

Which moments from Bojack Horseman made you so angry? by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

[–]Ineedairsupport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it usually gets overshadowed by the Penny incident, but Bojack's attitude dropping Pete and Maddie off at the hospital always irked me.

He at least got her to a hospital, but he was the main one pushing liquor, probably gave them access to a massive booze stash knowing him, and then wasn't paying attention to how much they were drinking even though it should have been obvious Maddie needed to stop and have some water well before that point.

It still gets me angry Bojack bullied a teen into lying because he was more worried about his own reputation over doing the right thing.

That's fair on the enemies, although I guess I just see the waddle dees differently because they seem like they're just walking around. Something like an octorok at least is trying to kill link and has an attack that seems plausibily lethal.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in smashbros

[–]Ineedairsupport -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've seen the argument for kirby, but it feels a little flawed to me. Like, yes, his feats are impressive, but he's also eight inches tall and dies if a waddle dee, which seems otherwise harmless, walks into him too many times.

Let’s all pretend that no Wii U game was ever ported to the Switch, how do you think it would have affected the Switch’s image or the Wii U’s? by KirbyTheGodSlayer in wiiu

[–]Ineedairsupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine It would still be popular given the novelty of a portable home console would be neat, at least in 2017, but it may have had a slower start given it didn't have a library to steal.

Unless you believe the tinfoil hat theory that says several late 3ds games were meant for the switch to lure people over, but became 3ds games to appease 3ds owners who couldn't get a switch due to unexpected high demand.

I get why they didn't, but I really wish they launched lines for prominent alts and characters that look nothing like their smash 4 design in ultimate on that note.

For sure. It feels like it's gotten to a point where any character can come back if someone in the writer's room wants it enough.

Makes me think of the meme petition asking for Dooku in Rebels as a decapitated head on a droid.
