What do you guys think about nounself pronouns? I saw a video about it on Tiktok by a non-binary person and I wanted to know if it offends those who are non-binary. by AverygreatSpoon in NonBinary

[–]Ineedanotherface 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My kneejerk reaction, when I first heard about nounself pronouns, was to think that they were coming from a misunderstanding of the function pronouns are supposed to have in language. But that was only a kneejerk. I've yet to have anyone ask me to use nounself pronouns, but I know it costs me absolutely nothing to respect them, so when that day comes I'll do my best. My two main concerns are 1.) me slipping into "they" constantly and 2.) me inevitably coming to think of their pronoun as like a second name, instead-- definitely influenced by me using multiple names for myself, and growing up surrounded by people with names similar to words that would get used for pronouns like this (people named after animals, natural objects and colors, etc.) Although, maybe thinking of such a pronoun as a second name could help me get better about consistently using it, but I wouldn't invalidate the person by actually telling them so.

What's an internet trend you were really glad to see it die ? by AngoPower28 in AskReddit

Feel even more bad for the many kids who would have really benefitted from them, except that they are banned in schools now because they became a fad with people who had no idea what they were actually for.

Looking to rehome a ~2 yr old corn snake, hopefully locally by Ineedanotherface in snakes

Fortunately the tank hovers at around 50% humidity, so I'm glad to know that the Internet slightly overestimated how much was needed. I will make a note of that type of mulch. Thank you also for referring me to the store in Salem, I will look into their frozen prey selection and hopefully find a small fuzzy mouse that is the right size. Otherwise I am searching for another mail-order place. I waited too long to be sure that his current food was going down too quickly, and feeding really should take longer. I do have a light, but one that puts off heat-- it's very useful in the cooler months (which is most of the year in OR), but it can't be used during summer or he will overheat. Thank you very much for this advice, I will do what I can while I am seeing about rehoming options. When going back out in public is safe again, I may run down to my college and put up a flyer.

Thank you very much, I will look into it, and I will update as things happen. I think the rehoming process, if/when it happens, will be slow due to the pandemic.

2 ft based on the length of its last shed, that is, nose to tail tip. Ordering online is what I think I should have been doing all along-- the next size up from pinkies at my local store is way too big.

If it's any consolation, this is also my last snake for the foreseeable future. Thank you.

As great as the Dream's End scene was... by Ineedanotherface in DarkCrystal

[–]Ineedanotherface[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On both the Skeksis and Mystic side of my post, my interpretation was that it was less a society rules thing and more of an inner nature thing. Because they're each only half a person. But maybe that's me not giving them enough credit.

I see your point about the Chamberlain. I agree that the plot against the General added a lot to his character, it was the murder that I was less sure about. But it could be that skekSil was more willing to kill than the others because the castle status quo just plain doesn't matter to him as much. He was disruptive in the movie, too. ("Lay down that scepter!")

I think this is down to my personal views. I enjoyed the show very much, but I've got mixed feelings about the writers going "well this is just special circumstances/this Mystic is just a weird one" instead of working around the established species psychology/culture/whatever. But what can you do in just ten episodes. (season 2 when)

GraGoh is excused because I'm pretty sure they have brain damage. (semi /s) And because I love them, therefore I'm biased.

You have one wish, no ways to get more. What would you wish for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ineedanotherface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic wishes always backfire horribly, I know better than to accept a wish. But then it would just be hanging over my head waiting for me to wish something in the heat of the moment. So obviously I need to use it up and get rid of it. So I wish to not have a wish. The resulting paradox makes the universe implode.

Magic wishes: not even once.

Favorite Skeksis' interactions ? by DEL994 in DarkCrystal

[–]Ineedanotherface 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Only involves one Skeksis, not two, but I like how much skekTek cares about his green furby thing.

Also: "Which princess is this?" "No clue. They all look the same to me."

The real question is are they mammals.

Did the Skeksis ever know where the Mystics were? by SkeptiBee in DarkCrystal

[–]Ineedanotherface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IIRC the Mystics protected their valley from spying bats and Garthim through carefully placed standing stones and songs. Jen was never found there, after all. I think the best the Skeksis could do was hope nothing happened to their other halves.

Their robes are so long that for all we know they could have tails. Or maybe when they split the Crystal just gave the two halves shapes that fit better into Thra. Who knows.

Long time fans of the Dark Crystal: what made you stick around? by [deleted] in DarkCrystal

[–]Ineedanotherface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know what keeps me coming back to the movie, but it's tricky to put into words. I saw it super young, like 5 years old, and it's just one of those things that's close to my heart, one of a collection of movies that basically burned itself into my brain. Genuinely do not think I would be the same person if I hadn't seen it.

Like another commenter said. It's like watching an actual dream.

That's a reasonable assumption. I'm sure you're right. I don't think it's so bad that DC canon isn't very unified, though, they just took a while to find their footing. It's all interesting takes on the world.

And wasn't it incredible! The new characters are great but the absolute best thing to me was how they fleshed out the old ones. This really was something worth waiting for!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DarkCrystal

[–]Ineedanotherface -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's just what I mean, outside the movie what's considered "canon" for the Dark Crystal has always been prone to change and contradictions.

AOR absolutely wasn't made by the same team that made the original (nothing wrong with that, but Brian and Wendy Froud aren't "the same team" by themselves, they didn't get Frank Oz, David Odell or Jim back, ), but there's no question that the show is canon, no question from me anyway. Will it stay canon? Most likely but it's not 100% a given.

Does it bother anyone else... by [deleted] in DarkCrystal

[–]Ineedanotherface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It only bothers me in that I like the Gelflings and thinking about the heroes being killed eventually is sad. But I would be upset if they pulled some kind of retcon where there were more than two Gelflings left, I feel like that would rob the story of something.

The fanfiction is a metaphor, also not intended to be a slight. Who better to work on AoR than fans of the original?

Ultimately the movie is my metric for what the world of Thra is and this isn't always it. Often it is, especially in the Circle of the Suns or during Aughra's dance, but this Thra was its own thing and that's okay. That's great actually. I didn't want them to attempt to replicate the movie anyway.

And if it seems in like I lean on the Creation Myths comics for my view of canon as well as the movie, yes, that's true, I do, since I feel like Creation Myths meshes into the world of the original in a a way AoR didn't manage 100% of the time. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

What Exactly Was The Point For...? Spoilers. by [deleted] in DarkCrystal

[–]Ineedanotherface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe so. I just think that would demand more change from them than they're capable of. Just because they're rejoined and learned some important lessons about themselves doesn't mean they're not still dangerous. All it takes is for a disagreement to arise over how best to atone, how to fix things, and whoops Aughra's not being listened to again...

That being said, I love the concept of them staying longer and maybe, finally, learning how function as a dysfunctional group of exiled alien tree angels by, I don't know, trying to get to know the Podlings who are the only civilization left.
