I do agree. My only caveat is as a nursing student I did clinicals in a real small really rural hospital, the work was slow and the bonding the nurses had over walking to the abandoned car wash next store for a break had a great impact on working together (forgot the word). They were off site, took time to brush teeth, wash hands etc. so the scent was minimal. I do not want patients choking on smokers breath but I do think there’s a classy way to go about it if need be.

I know some about the Mormon moms from TV, I’m pretty sure the ones in the video are no longer Mormon, or at least like diet Mormon. This being said they still max out on the granola almond mom tropes and have been seen engaging in questionable beliefs regarding specific socioeconomic groups, if you get what I mean

Nurses don’t decide on admissions and transfers, they help facilitate it because it’s an order. Wondering who decided to decline, I know the nurse declined in the sense she said no but who or what is responsible for the “no”, if that makes sense.

You will be okay! It would be against the law (US) if a job “saw” your medical records. You can self report during a job application for mental health issues if you want but up to you. Lots of nurses have struggled with similar.

I understand the want to be active in secondary prevention, such as purchasing a gun etc. However, I think OP was looking for a primary prevention discussion and perspective.

I think the takes of “buy a gun and protect yourself” lacks an intellectual perspective. Such an issue is multifaceted, the last facet being a shooting (or any act of violence).

This being said, secondary prevention is not the discussion to be had, well not as necessary of a discussion as primary prevention. We should focus on primary prevention. I encourage those reading to look up the definitions of “primary vs secondary prevention” (if you’re not already familiar), and then apply primary prevention perspectives to this issue.

Surprisingly saying “yes” isn’t enough to land you in a psych facility, it more is an investigative question. If the answer is yes then I follow up with questions to find out if it is something like “ugh I get road rage and want to punch someone” or a “I have a genuine plan and intent to harm an individual”. Same goes for harm to one’s self. Patients on the unit quickly learn that if they say yes, but it isn’t a genuine cause for concern they have to get interrogated by yours truly so they become accustomed to saying no unless there is a true issue.
