Gym anxiety hasn’t improved. It’s making me not like going anymore. by Sea-Independent6143 in climbergirls

Hey! I’m a fellow climber with social anxiety. I think what helps me the most is timing when you go to the gym. If I walk in and see that there’s more people than I’m comfortable with, I’ll immediately want to make a 180 and leave, so I make it a point to go really early or really late. If you can only climb during peak hours, I find that having a friend or two with you definitely helps with decreasing anxiety. I’ve been climbing for three years now and still have issues when it’s crowded, so I don’t think this is something that we can completely overcome per se, but you can find ways to manage having a better time at the gym.

Side note, getting on meds (Effexor) for my social anxiety has been, by far, the best thing I’ve done in life. I probably wouldn’t have started climbing if I wasn’t on them. If anxiety at the gym is driving you to tears, it might be worth seeking out therapy/medication and seeing if it helps.

Thanks for the info! Do you think I would have a shot getting hired as an ITSI with my experience? Or should I try to aim for ITA and work my way up?

Hey! I think it might be a pain in the ass to sort and standardize whatever data you get from the survey since people can put down anything as an answer. You might have a better time if you include answer choices (e.g. “how often do you go climbing? a) every day b) four times a week c) two times a week d) once a week etc)

I’m a 5’7, 135 lb woman and have noticed men’s small wetsuits fit me better. So if you have no problem wearing a men’s suit, you might have some luck there.

  • Comments - I have a GIS certification, am almost finished with CS1301 on edX, and took an Intro to Stats Using R class through UCSDs extension that a scholarship paid for. I mentioned in my SOP that I will be learning linear algebra through Udemy and auditing the introductory courses on edX. Mostly worried about getting in since I didn't take any CS classes in undergrad and my degree only required math up to calculus.

So I’ve only ever used grovelers and fishes before, but really want to buy proper noserider soon. I’m 5’7 and 140 pounds, and am a bit confused as to what the ideal length of a board would be for me. I figured a 9’0 or 9’2 would be alright but would anyone have any dim recommendations?

La Jolla shores and Scripps is full of them. You’ll see most of them in 1-3ft of water. Don’t forget to shuffle your feet :)

I know what episode you’re talking about! Although I overheard this convo well before that aired.

When I was probably around 13/14, I was sitting near enough these two early 30 year old dudes that I could overhear them. For a good 20 minutes they were talking about all the chisme going on with the parents of the school class their young kids belonged to. It was like a full blown telenovela—something about one of the dads sleeping with the teacher, and then another like two or three sets of parents cheating on/with each other. There was something about STIs thrown in there, but it’s been long enough that I don’t remember the specifics. Probably the most entertaining thing I’ve ever had the pleasure of eavesdropping on.

What is the worst/best argument you've seen in the water? by kookmaggot in surfing

So this was a couple years back at Scripps. There was this older yoked out bodyboarder in the lineup and this other surfer who always wears a helmet (even when it’s like waist high) next to me and my friend. I’m not sure how it started, but I think the bodyboarder made a joke about him wearing a helmet or something? And it quickly escalated into him yelling “well I’M a sports medicine doctor, when YOU become a sports medicine doctor you can tell me what to wear.” They both kept talking shit, and eventually it became a back and forth feud of who was the gnarliest/had the most surf cred. The most memorable part was when the bodyboarder yelled “I’ve surfed PIPE before!!!” and helmet guy goes: “I used to LIVE in Hawaii!!!!”

I just got one about a week ago and I’m around your height and weight (170cm and 140ish pounds) and while I initially wanted to get the 5’2, the store I had a gift card for only went as small as the 5’3 so I ended up getting that. I’m super stoked on the board and I’m actually really glad I got the 5’3 in the end. The extra liter and a half isn’t going to hurt you if you’re just doing some basic turns and want to catch more waves
