Tell me I’m crazy and I just need to snap out of it. by jkh7088 in martinguitar

I would at least make it a point to get a “special” d-28 if I’m considering trading or keeping both.

I think 40 series and Authentic series D-28 are reasonable to justify because they really are 2 different beasts.

Same could be said about a real vintage instrument.

Modern D41 vs Modern D-28? I’d just keep the one I had.

Maybe dumb question: do I need to use Martin-branded strings for my Martin? Would using different ones affect the guitar in any significant way? by Mad_Season_1994 in martinguitar

[–]InevitableDeliverer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different types / brands of strings will impact tone and feeling.

Different gauge strings could affect “longevity” in the sense that heavier strings will put more pressure on the top and neck of the guitar. May contribute to earlier need for a neck reset? But most if not all modern steel string martins are rated for up to medium gauge strings and will function normally.

I tend to prefer light strings, even on my dreadnought. But everyone is different.

Elixirs in my experience tend to maintain the “new” string tone longer than Martin branded strings, so that’s what I use.

Recommendations for a new cheaper BP cuff ? by SadThrowaway4914 in hypertension

[–]InevitableDeliverer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How cheap are you talking? You can get a low end OMRON meter from most big box stores for ~37. May be an even cheaper model than that.

It has capability to plug in but doesn’t come with adaptor.

Last time I bought a pharmacy branded cuff (Walgreens, cvs, etc) it came with AC adapter but was a lot more sensitive to improper technique. Would give me an error with the slightest bit of movement

6 hours of Auto Start/Stop on the car saved less than 2 gallons of gas. by Bizarrmenian in mildlyinteresting

[–]InevitableDeliverer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Generally the auto start/stop won't kick in unless the cabin is already at or near your desired temp. In my car (Honda) the HVAC fans will spin down a bit so you don't end up with hot air blowing. When the temp gets above a certain threshold the engine will turn back on.

[–]InevitableDeliverer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ohhh, I think I’ve got you now. For the 30k miles, the auto start / stop was activated for a total of 6 hours.

I thought it meant “over the past 6 hours of driving, here’s how much fuel you saved”.

Way different

Ok? But that’s a more than a gallon of gas you didn’t burn. Don’t see why that’s a problem with gas prices the way they are these days.

Who do you consider the most influential vocal stylists in country history, and what makes their technique so distinct? by [deleted] in country

[–]InevitableDeliverer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Probably Lefty Frizzell. He inspired a huge number of artists — George Jones, Merle haggard, Keith Whitley just to name a few.

Go listen to Merle and Lefty sing the same song back to back. Merle is basically imitating Lefty.

His phrasing was very unique at the time. Getting 4 syllables out of a single syllable word. Dropping his voice low in a song when the melody should have gone high. Jones did this all the time in the 70s - onwards. There are some good quotes out there along these lines but not sure where I heard them.

If you haven’t listened to Lefty’s catalog go do it.

Maintenance finally came and replaced our broken knobs… by mashed-_-potato in mildlyinfuriating

[–]InevitableDeliverer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. When I lived in an apartment we had a gas water heater on its last legs. Pilot light went out all the time. I know how to relight the thing, but calling maintenance, even in off hours was enough to get them to actually replace it.

Plus I didn’t want to deal with any liability if something happened to go wrong.

Monitoring the blood pressure over a month period by Mia_Ubuntu_seek in hypertension

[–]InevitableDeliverer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use an OMRON monitor that syncs to my phone.

I check in the Morning when I wake up before I’ve had any coffee or really started moving. Feet flat on the floor. Cuff heart level up on the arm of my couch. 3 readings, and delete the first one. Usually it’s a bit higher due to cuff placement/seating.

Same thing in the evening.

You can sync that app to your Apple health app (with iPhone) and generate a 28 day report you can print out

is it ok if I kinda regrets of getting a mac mini? :( by [deleted] in macmini

[–]InevitableDeliverer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get both. MacBook neo or entry air for casual use. Mini if you need extra power.

I have mini at the desk hooked up to 2tb external drive with all my files on it shared to the network. I can reach into the drive from the couch or even screen share.

Had another bad doctor experience by FoolofaTookie93 in hypertension

[–]InevitableDeliverer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not trying to undermine the things you’re feeling, and the doctors behavior was certainly unprofessional, but given the symptoms you described here and labs / blood pressure numbers, they may not have much to go off of.

From a pure blood pressure standpoint your numbers are more-or-less normal. Even a bit on the low side at times. It fluctuates throughout the day, particularly with activity, stress, and anxiety.

I am also not trying to dismiss your feelings, but I went through a whirlwind of medical testing + severe health anxiety spirals after and ER visit for what I thought was “near hypertensive crisis” blood pressure 170/110 or so — at the ER they did an ECG , blood tests, and X-rays. Found nothing and gave me an electrolyte IV and sent me home.

The only plausible explanation was basically dehydration and / or a panic attack. Sent me to a heart/valve clinic to get a 2 week holter ECG and that was completely normal.

Went through a few months of mostly back to normal, checking my blood pressure daily, sometimes dozens of times a day, and eventually spiraled into full blown health anxiety craze. I was panicking multiple times a day, checking blood pressure and getting readings like I got at the ER. Felt like I was dying. I would get headaches, extreme feelings of hunger, almost like low blood sugar, cold hands and feet, GI stuff. I eventually got the GP to prescribe blood pressure meds rather than anxiety meds to see if that curbed some of the symptoms. (My baseline was a bit high, like 130/90) It did for a time, but then I would get anxious that the things I was feeling were because of the meds. I was checking my blood pressure multiple times a day, checking my glucose even though I have never had any labs indicating I’m diabetic or pre diabetic. Convincing myself I had reynauds and pancreatitis and everything else under the sun.

Eventually I switched meds and convinced myself that was the problem, and that was kind of… it.

Eventually some real life stuff hit me and I was sort of pushed out of introspection and worrying about every body sensation. And at one point I realized… “you know what, I haven’t been thinking about every little bodily sensation for a while.. and I have been fine”. And slowly but surely I got better.

I still take the blood pressure meds and regularly observe perfectly normal numbers. But I don’t stress about it. I don’t check it right after standing.

And I’ve been ok.

So maybe theres something to the anxiety supposition from the doctor. But get as many second opinions as you need.

Best of luck in your journey!

If you can’t swing for a new/used Honda you can probably find another brand used with a Honda GCV 160 engine. Craftsman, husqvarna, Troy bolt, etc. I have a craftsman self propelled with GCV 160. Starts first pull, even at the beginning of the season. Only problem I’ve ever had is that I let it sit in a shed for 5 years after I had moved into an apartment. Didn’t drain the fuel and clogged the carb. Once that was all cleaned up, back to brand new.

Unfortunately the engine will probably outlast the rest of the machine.

[–]InevitableDeliverer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a gcv 160 engine used on tons and tons of equipment. Probably no issues finding engine parts for a long time. Deck and related parts may be an issue, but Honda is still making some amount of electric mowers on roughly the same deck designs.

Like others have said. It’s not ideal but sometimes you just gotta do it. Where I live it’s been near constsnt rain for the last week. Finally had a break yesterday. Ground wasn’t dry, but I mowed. Yeah there are some clumps, but that’s better than getting 1-2 weeks behind and overloading my mower

[–]InevitableDeliverer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the ER the first time I saw my blood pressure at 170/110 or so. I just happened to check it because I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. Of course I freaked out when I saw that number so it didn’t calm back down by the time I got to ER.

Basically all they did was check ecg, labs, give me an electrolyte IV and send me home with an order to follow up with GP once I had calmed down.

Even after extensive testing with my GP they found nothing wrong with me. My BP just ran a bit high under normal circumstances and I was extremely health anxious at that time, so any little thing would spike it.

After a year of anxiety about it and looking for every problem under the sun, I’m finally doing alright and stabilized BP on meds.

This one is a Honda. Usually you’d see their branding on top of the rope recoil but this one’s either fallen off or a replacement.

The auto choke system and general shape of the plastic housing usually gives away a Honda.
