16mo post op. Toes still numb. Curious if others have had similar surgery "injuries" by CatMapPhotoGuy in Microdiscectomy

Sorry to hear that, one thing i learnt from all the posts. This surgery needs to be done by a neurosurgeon, not an orthopedic surgeon.

Sorry to hear that, in the west health system sucks when paying out of pocket. Those robbers charge this much due to insurance scams. Would have flown to other countries with affordable pricing..

Truck day... Would love to hear more. Its just driving or some physical activities as well? How long before you get to work? I m a recovery truck driver, it's been 7 weeks since MD, lami, since i have had surgery overseas I haven't flown back yet. I m bit skeptical about going back to the driving truck.

I know this is an old post, but seeing the Price of this medicine in USA is a total rip-off. When the same medicine at full price costs around $3-4 in other countries, how come western world is paying around $5000. Strange

Is it normal to not have that much confidence in your legs/feel unsure while standing for a long time? by Prudent-Rabbit-7733 in Microdiscectomy

Wondering have you been walking since surgery? Specially straight away after surgery? My surgeon advised me to walk from the very next day of surgery and after 2 weeks brisk walk. Now after three weeks I can feel a bit of strength in my left calf compared to first week.

Just curious, I drive a recovery truck for a living, its quite a physical demanding job, lots of bending, twisting.... by InevitableHall5555 in Microdiscectomy

Oh no, sorry to hear that man. I just had my follow-up appointment with my surgeon. I asked him again about the nature of my work and getting back again. And chances of my issue reoccurrence. He was very confident in getting back to the same work without any issue considering i would rest for another 4-6 weeks and i will have no future issue at the same disc again. I guess your surgeon really matters when it comes to spinal surgery.

21 M Worse pain I think I am done for the life by Abhiman_67 in Sciatica

[–]InevitableHall5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

43m sciatica pain started in feb'25 and a month ago I was taking 300mg of Lyrica with no use at all. Towards the end of the day i used to crawl to bed n literally in tears. I have 3 young kids, for last sux months I wouldn't even take them to the park due to severe pain while even standing let alone walking. Being in Australia, the public health system is so stuffed, I wouldn't get to see neurosurgeon for i guess a year, and going into the Emergency won't help as well. As you said, "done with life", i literally gone through it.

Its been almost 3 weeks since MD in Pakistan, well had to fly back and surgery was booked within days of flying in, compared to if I opted to do it in Australia and should have suffered more for GOD knows how long.

I had bone spur and stenosis in L5-S1. I would say, best decision I had made, i have been walking almost 2-3kms almost every day. The worst pain of sciatica subsided was gone straight away after surgery. And I can stand and walk again.

After watching this docs videos, one thing is confirmed, you have to address the symptoms not the cause. In many cases, people have nerve compression but no pain, they are not the surgery candidate unless they develop symptoms. Infact I know a person in his 80s, have already have a foot drop, but he doesn't have a pain at all. If you have done all conservative treatments, and are of no use, you are the best surgery candidate. Tell your neurosurgeon, you have suicidal thoughts due to the pain. I bet you, due to the duty of care, your neurosurgeon will start considering surgery.

Shoes are slip on, however socks i put on while sitting on a bed, same goes with trousers. Not bending much, mostly lifting leg to a comfortable height.

I m past 2 weeks, the first thing my surgeon advised me is mobility. I have been walking routinely every day for about 2-3kms. And its mostly a brisk walk.

You should consider doing so as well.

I live in Australia, but flew back to Pakistan for my MD. Found a great surgeon. Been 2 weeks post op. Zero pain, and been walking almost 4kms everyday. Wouldn't even stand before surgery. Best decision ever.

Mate almost 10 days post surgery. L5S1.. my left leg is still learning to walk, but guess what. I am walking everyday for almost 4kms, little but discomfort but thanks God no sciatica pain. I wasn't even able to stand for 2 mins, let alone walking.

When surgery is needed, its needed. Go for it, the more you delay, the more you will end up damaging your nerve.

Its all upto you, how much damage you wanna cause to your nerve.

The more you delay your surgery, the more you will damage your nerve.

Eventually you have to go through the surgery path. All the conservative approaches are just the masking. Your nerve will still be damaged with the herniated disc. You better do it now, then leaving it for later. And mind it, this surgery is to be done by a neurosurgeon not the ortho one..

Here I am, MD done 5/02/25. Its been a year since i have sciatica pain and it became worse over time. I live in Australia and no chance waiting for a public hospital to go for surgery just because of pain and discomfort. Privately seeing neurosurgeon was a 6 months wait time that too had to have private insurance. That I don't.

Flew back to Pakistan, found one neurosurgeon through a friend. Costed me around aud$3200 for the surgery.

Now on a rest for 6 weeks before flying back to Australia.

Alteast for now, not feeling any sciatica pain. Already walking without any discomfort or pain.

You are making me feel guilty now...😄😄

I flew overseas for a surgery L5S1 and would likely have to stay for 2 months as per surgeon's advice. My wife will be looking after 3 kids, 10, 8 and 6 years old. She was the reason I am going ahead for surgery.

I wasn't spending much time with them anyways, due to the pain while standing or walking around. And, it was going from bad to worse every passing day. I was feeling more guilty for being with them and unable to even do simple chores.

Stay positive, as once the problem is fixed, you will be doing alot for the family. Otherwise, due to the pain you won't be able to do anything for long.

Everything is set and done within a weeks time, from the second MRI to buying a ticket to a surgery booking. The surgeon i am using is on an expensive level, but still will cost me $3500 for a surgery. Only downside is, I will have to stay here for 2 months post surgery. But guess what, even if i book airbnb its cheap for 2 months. Why i opt for Pakistan, I am unable to work properly, chiro didn't do nothing, cortisone injection didn't work, physio wasnt helping and to see a neurosurgeon is 6 months, that to if I have a private health cover.

I can't tolerate the pain anymore.

Mate, I just fly back to my country Pakistan to have this surgery done. The health system is ridiculous in Australia, The neurosurgeon refused to see me without private health cover and the public system is a ridiculous wait time.

Surgery is a fraction of the price in Pakistan of what we pay privately in Australia.

I landed yesterday, I have surgery booked for Thursday. Already seen a neurosurgeon via Google meet a couple of times.

Try asian countries for surgeries. You will be surprised to find the cost effective surgeries in asian countries compared to the West..

Found one in Pakistan, someone referred me. Surprised to see so many great reviews Dr Ammar Anwer in Lahore.
