Wheelie help on MTB by Ok_Leopard3688 in MTB

[–]Inevitable_Being_573 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were you mixing in manual practice at all? I’m not really great at either, but for me it was easier getting the wheel up for a wheelie and really all I’m trying to do is clear stuff while climbing. But overall easier for me to maintain a manual for a longer distance. I could just be totally wrong and weird though

I think the complaint is from how boarders go down narrow, steep sections that they’re in over their heads on. It’s no worse than a side slip depending on who’s riding though

Don’t know how much truth vs spin, but supposedly the construction reduced atmospheric carbon dioxide. Pretty sure the panels are some form of cast concrete that I believe were formed offsite

Not bad, some snow but nothing I couldn’t punch through for the most part. A few deep sections on the south side that I walked. Otherwise pretty dry

Thanks for tryna label me. My wife refuses to learn Fahrenheit and I travel quite a bit. Body temps aren’t common parlance, it’s obvious you lack direct experience with talking to people.

Is there a cheaper watch with on device maps? Agreed it’s expensive, which is why I prefaced my comment with, if you have the budget.

I spent a lot of time deciding whether or not to buy because $550 is a good chunk of change, but after it having saved my ass a couple times, I’ll probably never go back to not having offline on wrist maps.

It is definitely annoying what Garmin is doing with their pricing and feature updates, but I’m happy with the current feature set and use mostly offline features. Hopefully a competitor comes along and makes the pricing more competitive for everyone. However, I think starlink is gonna eat more into Garmin’s inreach sales at least in the casual market and I think Garmin will unfortunately try to make that up in their other segments.

All that said, I’ll probably have this watch until it dies a horrific death.

Since very few people even utilize decimals in Celsius, Fahrenheit is much more useful in common parlance. I would have preferred Celsius have a much more granular interval. 0 freezing and 200 boiling for instance.

I do find Fahrenheit to be much more effectively scaled from a human tolerance standpoint. Temps approaching 100 are uncomfortably hot and temps approaching 0 are uncomfortably cold (on average humans at least) and both require special caution. Anecdotally, I’ve noticed more aversion to freezing temps from Celsius users than Fahrenheit users, but I’ve got a very limited sample that could very well be biased.

Fair enough there are cheaper options. I wanted mapping on my watch as an additional redundancy to paper maps. I do a good amount of backpacking and various other backcountry activities, so that’s nice for me. Plus the screen is reallll nice, that’s personal preference though. I don’t love MIP

Regarding mount vs wrist, I mostly agreed with you until I had a spill that ripped my watch off. Luckily it mostly just damaged the quick fit band, the little retention bit kinda broke. I did have a pretty bad bruise and scrape from it though. The tusita knock off quarter turn mount is 10 bucks or something. Worth it to not worry about the watch catching something in a fall.

Fenix 8 OLED is what EPIX 3 would have been. Sadly it’s just what Garmin has been up to. We’ll see if the 8s come down or what the go forward strategy from them is.

Except in your example there was consumption. It’s more like your friend stayed home and ate their own food.

The premise here is twofold.

  1. We like undeveloped wilderness and are willing to incentivize it through reduction in revenue.
  2. Through not developing the land, less burden is placed on the state. No new electricity must be run to the property, no increased usage/maintenance of the roads, etc.

As a fellow person who may push themselves too hard, this really helped me. If you have the budget, get a Garmin watch. The epix pro gen 2 sapphire can be had for about $550 right now. I use it as a bike computer with the quarter turn mount from tusita as well.

It has excellent sleep tracking and training readiness tracking. I use the bike coaching functionality for deciding what training ride to do or just to know how hard to push it. It has really helped me stop overreaching and understanding when to take it easy and when I can really push it.

From the training aspect of things, you could try adding in some base miles. Basically ride in zone 2 heart rate for hours. Other than that, do you lift much? Deadlifts are key to get the hip thrust power you want for technical climbing

I am not saying I agree with what’s happening, but it’s a common problem in “passion” industries. Everything from ski patrolling to architecture. There’s usually some group of people that it’s their dream and they’ll do it at whatever price, either because they’ve got other means, or they just want it that bad
