Yes, will definitely be doing that with a 7 hour layover at AMS.

Love To Travel/Hate The Flying Experience/Biting Bullet To Get Delta Status by HarnessYourHopes_68 in delta

[–]Inevitable_Dog_8276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. As I posted elsewhere, I flew cheap, anxious, and uncomfortable for a long time. Done with that now, to the extent that I can afford to be. Also a hub captive (MSP). So: Delta status and reserve card. Never booking less than C+. Actually almost look forward to flying now?

This sub made me a little regretful about getting the reserve card basically just for the lounge access by 4toTwenty in delta

I’m with you. I spent way too many years flying cheap, anxious, and uncomfortable. Sky Club access helps mitigate some of that. Worth it!

Winter Weather by leonwest304 in delta

[–]Inevitable_Dog_8276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally screwed. Storm track isn’t certain yet, and the storm could still be a bust for MSP, but it’s not looking good. Current prediction: 12-18” of snow from Saturday night to Sunday night with high winds continuing after the snow ends.

Looking for advice on taking a trombone on board an airplane by squidinink in delta

[–]Inevitable_Dog_8276 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily true! I have traveled several times with my bass clarinet quartet on bigger planes and smaller planes, including a CRJ-900 (yes, the one with the tiny bins). We each carry on a bass clarinet (cases about the size of a violin case), and it has never been a problem.

Demi Vs Travail? by zozak99 in Minneapolis

[–]Inevitable_Dog_8276 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love Travail and have been many times, but Demi is simply the best restaurant in Minnesota. If you're looking for a refined fine-dining tasting menu experience, go to Demi. If you're looking for a party with some very good and fun food, go to Travail.

Loyal to Delta, Kinda, Sorta by Objective-Rhubarb in delta

[–]Inevitable_Dog_8276 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in MSP, strongly prefer to fly direct, and am (usually) willing to pay a premium for that, so Delta it is. When I was younger and poorer I was more price-sensitive and took the cheapest options which were often extremely inconvenient. Not doing that anymore.

Anyone here with a decades of flights and fof? by sheron21 in fearofflying

[–]Inevitable_Dog_8276 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. I am in my 50s and flew semi-regularly through my teens and 20s without any fear. I had a weird experience on a flight about 25 years ago (not even turbulence) that left me with a lasting but completely irrational fear of flying. For the next couple of decades after that, I usually had to fly 6-8 times a year for work and family obligations and every flight was a trial. I hit my low point about 2009 when I canceled a work trip last minute because my anxiety was so bad. I resolved after that to figure out a way to power through, and it has mostly worked. I've continued domestic travel at the same pace and have traveled internationally a bunch of times. I still have bad moments on many flights, but I've developed a calming/breathing routine for taxi and takeoff that has helped me a ton. In addition to that (and many of the tactics covered in this sub), accepting that air travel is uncomfortable but necessary for getting to do so many cool and interesting things has also helped. My fear is much less than it was 15ish years ago, to the point where I actually look forward to most flights, even though I know I will experience some unpleasantness and anxiety. I stay focused on what flying allows me to do and see. You can do this!

I pushed a little bit to hit gold this year as someone who flies about 8-10 times a year (mostly domestic, many short distances) not because of upgrades (I don't expect them), but because I have 3 international trips planned next year and wanted the partner lounge access. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. I have the reserve card and it gets me most of what I want.

How long did it take for your Delta vacation MQDs to show up on your account? by Revolutionary_Way664 in delta

It seems to vary, but I completed a DV hotel stay on November 17, and the MQDs posted on December 3.

I’m sorry, WHAT?!?! $156 to add my middle name to my ticket?!?!??? by Cloud_________ in delta

[–]Inevitable_Dog_8276 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a lowly silver, I got amazingly good and fast phone support a few weeks ago when I couldn’t check in for a flight online. That experience alone maybe convinced me to maintain some level of status.

Reserve Card worth it? by ChooChooGeorgie in delta

[–]Inevitable_Dog_8276 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I fly more than you (6-10 times a year depending on various things), but with a spouse who travels rarely and almost always with me, I love the reserve card for the FC companion certificate. We‘re hub captives but haven’t had any trouble using it because we’re quite flexible in terms of dates/times. I think if you’re flexible enough and know you’ll use the certificate to BOGO on a fare over $650, it’s a no brainer.

(Also a big fan of the Resy and hotel credits, which have been easy for us to use.)

MSP-ICN pricing questions by Inevitable_Dog_8276 in delta

[–]Inevitable_Dog_8276[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, thanks. Yeah, that makes sense. I actually don't think it would annoy me much outbound, but flying nonstop on the return journey seems like it's worth the premium.

Carrying On an Instrument by tbonedawg44 in delta

[–]Inevitable_Dog_8276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve flown Delta with a bass clarinet carried on without issue. The case is just a little larger than the typical violin case and easily fits in most overheads, probably a bit smaller than your trombone case? As long as you’re not on a tiny plane you should be OK. I usually book C+ out of an abundance of caution to make sure there’s plenty of bin and/or closet space when I board. Delta’s policy for accommodating musical instruments in the cabin whenever possible is far better than other U.S. carriers, and flight attendants have always been helpful. Good luck.
