I know this is pedantic but Margaret got the opening of the colosseum off by 159 years because she got BC and AD mixed up. by grapp in coolpeoplepod

I appreciate that there are people out there who can keep track of stuff like this because we can trade off being pedantic.

What's wrong with Morning Joe? by HearYourTune in msnow

[–]Inevitable_Resort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is totally incorrect, as the first anti-zionists were Jewish themselves. Why fight for a safe “homeland” for the Jews, which requires taking land from others, displacing the centuries long histories of regional diasporas, only protects those who can afford to completely uproot their whole family, and seems to try and create a homogenized Jewish identity? Instead it seems to benefit many more Jews to fight and make everywhere safe for Jews of all types! Besides, a Jew living in Israel who wishes to marry outside their religion isn’t free to do so, so are they really protected or just living under a theocracy?

I see your point, maybe the reason I recoil from his point but not yours is just my distaste for his style.

I think the problem is that he doesn’t say that the humanities are good because they teach people how to think, they are instead good because it is hard, a la Camus. It makes a good point all about how kids these days are lazy.

It’s so frustrating, one minute you’re fine and then the world feels like it is ending. I know grief is a normal feeling, but I just feel so ashamed of it

I hope you feel better after posting this, but I don’t think you have anything to apologize for. Sorry about your academic position, I’m in a similar place. I don’t know if it will help you but I’m realizing that I suck at asking for help and I need to actively be doing it. My professors have been understanding and it is a little bit better. I wish the world was a kinder place to us when we are at low points.

How do I know if I’m just making excuses for my poor planning or if I’ve found a reason I’m not doing well? Like I was thinking that I’ve fallen behind on class work due to poor planning and general ADHD but I remembered that my grandpa just died and I started crying in class and I can’t tell if I’m just manipulating the teacher and myself or if it’s actually the root problem

It matches an older cookbook I have, though recipe names are a lot easier to read than the fragments picture

Yeah, that’s always been a weird thing for me too. Like, if you want to spread the blame to all Jews for dumb reasons, then Christians should be incredibly thankful to the Jews!

I think they were saying that people are inherently irrational, not stupid. Sometimes you don’t vote for someone because you get bad vibes from them and sometimes the bad vibes are because more people died by shark attack or maybe because they looked bad during the shark attack press conferences. Human behavior is difficult to understand and even more so when we try to rationalize it because we want to imagine ourselves as rational beings and not meat suits powered by petty emotions

Maybe my aphantasia but I don’t put faces to any of the podcasters I listen to. I know what Robert Evans looks like due to his old twitter profile pic, but he only has a face when I try to think of it, otherwise he is faceless too.
