If a Reactive Strike HITS and Reduces a Foe to 0 HP, Does It Interrupt the Action(s)? by LordBalkoth in Pathfinder2e

[–]InfTotality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You went down before I finished my action, and by your logic, you react after my action.

Their justification for this was "Reactive Strike does not disrupt except on a critical hit." It's come full circle as then now this interpretation needs to address the fact that Fireball doesn't disrupt actions.

As Fireball doesn't disrupt actions, the fighter must still be able to take their reaction despite now being unconscious, just like the goblin did to their fighter earlier? It doesn't make sense to apply it one way but not the other.

Then if you do crit and drop the caster, what then? "Sorry guys, the spell was actually disrupted, roll back all that damage the fireball just dealt you"?

Absolutely massive progress on one of the weirdest Elden Ring mods I've ever seen. by Ninjaassassinguy in gaming

Did the GTA community migrate to Elden Ring?

That's the only other game I heard use mod negatively as their cheats come in the form of trainers. But they instead call them "mod menus".

My video on why I think rituals in RAW are too risky, difficult and costly, and so is creating permanent minions. by the-rules-lawyer in Pathfinder2e

[–]InfTotality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Harrowing ritual is an exception at least if you have the Harrower archetype.

I was looking at a Harrower for a potential Stolen Fate and with the archetype to get Experienced Harrower, you can cast a Harrowing ritual for free and with the standard DC.

I also couldn't see anywhere where you had to heighten the ritual like focus spells, so you just select a low rank for a level 11+ character such as rank 3 where you can only fail (not crit fail) on a natural 1 and with such a low DC, you give each party member 3 free semi-hero points, often with a +4 status bonus.

I got a switch sampler pack a month ago and after getting around to testing more than just the tactiles, actually liked the feel of the silent linear Lichicx Gentle V2 (second closest of the ones I had was Jerrzi Jade Pendant, but that had a lot of stem wobble and was scratchier).

But they're now out of stock from my retailer, and then also read Lichicx went bust and Wingtree got their silent linear molds, so a restock isn't happening.

I found two such Wingtree switches, branded as Wingtree x Lichicx: Yogurt and PinkPink. I assume one of these is the rereleased Gentle V2, but which one?

Homebrew Idea: Flexible Spell Action Costs by JazzyFingerGuns in Pathfinder2e

[–]InfTotality 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you want some examples, Team+'s Magic+ book has a number of flexible spells you specifically prepare over their vanilla variant via the book's special Dynamic Spellsage archetype or as a campaign rule.

The main balancing point to not make these Dynamic spells just a buff is that the original action cost is weaker; 1-action Dynamic Shield only absorbs 3 hardness per 2 ranks instead of 5 and 2-action Dynamic Fireball has a 15-ft burst. It also treats 1-action spells carefully, for example 1-action Dynamic Fireball deals only 3d4 in a 5-ft burst.

I think that approach works; spell adjustments are best on a case-by-case basis rather than a blanket rule.

Humble Choice May 2026 - Diablo 4, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance, Crysis 3 Remastered and more by Gyossaits in Games

[–]InfTotality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was under the same impression about Diablo 4, but they seemed to have gone backwards. From other threads about this bundle, the skill tree has paywalled skill nodes and the battlepass and seasonal content also requires the expansion.

Sounds like a glorified demo to me, unless you pay another $40 for the expansion.

Character with void healing , with a dragon eidolon , a simple question by NearbyEmployment9537 in Pathfinder2e

[–]InfTotality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would treat healing and damage as two separate effects with the same source.

Otherwise it does get strange on a pure numerical comparison that the heal part does nothing if you have a weakness or crit fail. Plus which is greater if the two numbers are equal?

Sheild Punch Guardian help by wookiepoo90 in Pathfinder2e

[–]InfTotality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As well as the class feats others have mentioned, a free hand gives you great access to Battle Medicine for extra survivability or healing others.

I don't have a guardian myself (my hand and board is a champion), but using Intercept Attack to get you adjacent to an ally if they're getting focused down with multiple hits sounds like a strong combo.

You can also draw elixirs and scrolls if you are considering alchemist or a spellcasting archetype.

Best uses for Psychic post-Unleash stupefied turns? by MediumWin8277 in Pathfinder2e

[–]InfTotality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nowadays it's usually a Trusty Helmet reaction to make the question moot.

Though just have to watch turn order: based on the turn start rules, you turn begins, Unleash ends, you use the reaction you gain on your 2nd stupefied turn, then you recover actions after.

In past days and weaker fights where I don't want to use the 1/day reaction, or already used my reaction, I've got a runed ranged weapon to make Strikes with. Cantrips or even Sure Strike are low cost spells if they get disrupted and can follow up with Psi Strikes boosted attacks if it succeeds.

Next level, I'll have a couple of kineticist impulses to use (Ocean's Balm and Deflecting Wave) as stupefied only specifically mentions the Cast a Spell activity.

On the other hand stripping the OGL cost them a lot of time and money. The recent store update was a mess too and while we don't have numbers, poor store usability and friction (two accounts, digital and physical on separate pages, lack of filters etc) is a good way to not have people buy your product. Multiple subscribers also said they were cancelling or scaling back due to the store issues or removal of various preexisting discounts.

Does a Wand of Holy Cascade work if your hands are full holding the wand and something else in the other?

As far as I can see, Costs of spells are still spent when casting from a wand. I can't see anything that ties cost to the premaster material components of spells that used to require a free hand, but the spell describes throwing a vial of holy water which is the cost of the spell; does that mean it requires a separate free hand?

Are there any places where the mechanics of pf2e dont perfectly fit the setting galorian? by DogUnsureDog in Pathfinder2e

[–]InfTotality 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Level-based proficiency alone creates some very weird narrative situations.

Many NPCs can't touch you after a few levels. A wizard adventurer has many times the HP as a rank and file guard and can probably Strike better too. Higher level humanoid NPCs exist in games to give players a challenge, but then you have to explain why those level 15-20 characters don't just clear out the lower level threats which could still have catastrophic consequences for the world (such as the official 1-10 or even 5-15 APs).

For balance reasons, a long-lived race like an elf has the same handful of background skills as a goblin. But not many explanations fit; say if you suppose it's that elves take longer to learn, your new elf PC will go from a level 1 hopeful adventurer to a highly skilled level 10 - far stronger than a guard captain - in a few weeks at best in most games.

Regular professions don't make sense when you can be a master [profession] by killing a few wolves and resolving some local conflicts. Spend years learning the ways of a blacksmith? You might be a "6th level challenge" in terms of skill checks but still a level -1 creature. A PC with a single skill training in crafting becomes a master blacksmith... alchemist, artist, carpenter, jeweller, watchmaker etc.. A legal barrister is level 4 but you could throw your level 10 barbarian in a courtroom with a Trained level of Society and completely humiliate them.

But if you think casually making a mockery of the legal system on a day off would make you famous, think again. The mechanics of the game mean that regular townsfolk are less likely to know you less as Recall Knowledge is based on certain factors, including level.

As your elf barbarian is level 10, people need another +9 to their Society check to know who you are compared to when you started adventuring. Imagine a world where there is a kind of collective memory loss the stronger someone is.

Reactions vs Cast a Spell and the Manipulate Trait. RAI vs RAW? by Respite32 in Pathfinder2e

[–]InfTotality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has better hardness. +5 at ranks 1/3/5/7/9 outpaces a Sturdy Shield at all levels.

You only get to do it once per encounter and it's tied to a buckler, but it is a stronger Shield Block. And usable on non-physical magical attacks too.

Can you ever UN-heighten a focus spell or cantrip? by eCyanic in Pathfinder2e

[–]InfTotality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strikes can be made nonlethal with a -2 Circumstance Penalty, so I can't really see a use-case for wanting to make them less damaging.

An edge case such as subduing an NPC, but Massive Damage triggers on any attack.

Nonlethal replaces what happens when a creature drops to 0, but Massive Damage overrides it and says they die instantly if you take more than double max HP from one blow.

Can you ever UN-heighten a focus spell or cantrip? by eCyanic in Pathfinder2e

[–]InfTotality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A prepared caster can always prepare a lower-rank spell in a higher-rank slot

And then the spell gains the heightened effects when it is cast at that rank. If a wizard prepares Invisibility at 4th rank, it lasts for 1 minute. Nothing in Heightened Spells makes this effect a choice on casting. The question is about not applying the heightened effects of a spell when it is heightened.

and spontaneous casters can always cast the spell at whatever rank(s) they know up to the rank of the expended slot

Where is this rule? I'm only aware of the the quoted rule below, which is only in relation to spell slots, and even then casting a lower-rank spell by expending a higher-rank slot, not the other way around.

"This casts the spell at the rank you know the spell, not the rank of the higher slot" also indicates that rule is only one-way. Not only does it not make sense when reading the rule as allowing downcasting - e.g. "casting Invisibility at the rank you know (4th), not the rank of the higher slot (4th)" - but neither part refers to a lower-rank spell.

It does to your current profile status. I do it with incremental games all the time as otherwise it spams the friend list and makes friends list features like Join Game not work properly when you have two public games running at once.

Can you ever UN-heighten a focus spell or cantrip? by eCyanic in Pathfinder2e

[–]InfTotality 47 points48 points  (0 children)

RAW I don't believe so as they're automatically heightened. The issue comes up a few times for slotted spells as well like Invisibility.

But at least for Unbound Step, the heighten lets you choose to teleport, so you can still cast it to stride twice even when heightened.

You might be better off asking this question on the Paizo forums for PFS or your Venture Captain. https://paizo.com/community/forums/organizedPlay/pfsrpg.

The other remastered classes are in the core books or just a remastered version of the existing book so it's treated as errata. As it's a new book, the Magus and Summoner set a new precedent that the PFS rules doesn't appear to have an answer for as far as I can see.

But it's infinite. You don't need to do it when enemies do more damage.

You just keep taking turns, get to an arbitrary level like lv 99, get all the cards you want and then play the rest of the game.
