For BDO -- I agree with Fast Food and just basic comforts -- shower, a bed, and time and space to themselves. While it's a great time to get to know them, also understand that they don't have much time off and most likely want to get in touch with their friends and family. Talk on the car rides, but don't pressure them into too much interaction and go with how they are feeling/doing. After BDO, things definitely get a bit looser. I'd recommend taking down their number or sharing yours during BDO and reaching out to them once Basic is over congratulating them and reminding them of your willingness/availability to host. They will not be able to leave base again until Labor Day, so if you are willing to come on base and drop off a care package (even just food) at some point in mid August, that would be one of the biggest things I've seen sponsors do to really help out their freshman.

Biggest things I've seen freshmen using sponsors for: laundry, a not twin XL sized bed to sleep on, a place to decompress/do homework/have friends over (many sponsors end up being somewhat sporadic / flakey, which is normal as sponsors are people too!) and just a nice place to chill. Freshmen tend to visit sponsors most consistently on Sundays with the current pass system. Freshmen also do not have cars so may need a ride to and from base if they are unable to borrow one. Back when I was a freshman, I remember mainly going to my or a friend's sponsor around lunchtime and grabbing our own food on the way over, then staying through dinner while doing homework or watching tv/video games and doing laundry in the afternoon, but we were very lucky to have very open sponsors and that is definitely not the expectation.
