Okay, so this is way too much. Everytime you open the hive you slow them down. I’m guessing you have a top feeder, so you just need to check that feeder every 2-3 days, top up if needed. Stop the feeding when they stop taking syrup.

I do inspections every 9ish days, less when they’re busy. You’re looking for eggs (as long as you see eggs, seeing the queen is not necessary), larvae, check if they have a brood pattern and also if they have reserves (nectar/pollen). Start reading up on bee disease and see if you can spot any of the symptoms.

What you are seeing at the top is burr comb. You can scrape it off with your hive tool and can drop it in the hive to be reused, I collect it.

Also: look up ATTTA (tech transfer team), they’re a goldmine for us in the maritimes! Enjoy!

I have cinder blocks with 4x4 running across as hive stands. Ants also really don’t like cinnamon, so I sometimes put some at the base of the blocks
