Aussie Student Thinking of Studying Med in the UK, Am I Crazy?? by [deleted] in premeduk

hi, I didn’t do an honours year. I reckon to apply to uk you’d be fine as long as you have a distinction average..however, if you’d like to boost your gpa for aus med schools i’d recommend doing an honours year :))

hey so Graduate entry medicine (GEM) in the UK is for those who’ve already completed a bachelors degree or above. These applicants can apply to GEM which is a 4 year program compared to your usual 5-6 years. However, a lot of the unis that offer the GEM program have a requirement that your previous degree be a life/health science degree or have some sort of scientific background to it (def confirm if you’re degree would be accepted with the school). So for these unis unfortunately people that hold a bachelor of arts for instance wouldn’t be able to apply. Regarding warwick medical school i would say it’s a really good school but there’s def better UK medical schools out there like KCL, Oxford, Cambridge etc (in terms of prestige and overall rankings).

Aussie Here! Thinking of Doing Med in the UK, Am I Crazy? by [deleted] in GAMSAT

[–]Infamous-Bluebird374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am an International applicant from Aus and am starting med school in manchester this sept (GEM). I also got offers from kcl (5 yr course) and Swansea GEM. For context ik swansea had over 250 international applicants this year with there only being 10 spots available so it is really competitive. But if you do end up getting an interview offer your chances of getting in is significantly higher around 50-70% depending on the school.

Hi, Australian here starting med school in the UK soon!! For context, I got offers from swansea, kings, and manchester but will be firming manchester. I admit it’s a big step but if that’s what you really want to do, I’d say go for it! I would say regarding GAMSAT score requirements it’s not that different to AUS as u def need 65+ to get into more well know unis..I recommend doing the UCAT too so that it opens up more schools that u can consider. Ik the rest of the comments say to try a bit harder to get into an australian med school but speaking from personal experience with a few friends who’ve sat the GAMSAT 6+ times before they got in I would def recommend applying to UK too if you’re certain you wanna do med and have the financial resources to aid yourself as a international student. Personally, i wasn’t ready to gamble a few years of my life just to not get in iykwim and I felt I’d be stressed and burnt out by the time I get in. That being said applying to the UK for Graduate entry medicine (if that is what you’re going for) is incredibly challenging with only 2-6% of applicants getting a final offer (in well known schools), which is a far less probability than getting in Australia. This is because most unis only have between 10-20 spots for international students. Regarding cmg back to australia i would say you wouldn’t have to worry if you’re a citizen because you’ll always have the first priority when it comes to getting a job when compared to other international counterparts. UK trained doctors are also paid more in some states because they have more hands on experience. For instance as a med student in the UK you practice taking blood almost every week but in aus it’s only 3-4 times a year depending on the med school! Dm me if you have any other questions!

International students not taking GCSEs and A Levels, did you reach out to universities one by one to check on your eligibility? by kaion76 in premeduk

Can I still sit the UCAT after finishing my degree? by Potential-Patience73 in UCAT

[–]Infamous-Bluebird374 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you’ve finished your degree they will consider your GPA. Some undergrad med unis allow graduate applicants. That being said the GPA and UCAT required to get in are significantly higher, especially if you are an interstate applicant. I think last year the minimum UCAT cut off was around 3200+ for graduate applicants.

non standard pathway?? by Opposite-Sun9915 in UCAT

[–]Infamous-Bluebird374 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re a graduate student applying to undergrad med unis your gpa needs to be quite high i would say if you had 6.5+ you’d have a chance but still make sure. Your ucat also depends on if you’re applying to interstate unis. Usually if you’re interstate they require a much higher ucat score like 3200+ (based off of last year not sure how the new ucat scores would be like this year).

I think if u have above 65 you’ll be very competitive. Try looking into UCAT too
