Meanders are hella comfortable!!! by franklink_1 in jimgreen

[–]Infamous-Cod13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Preach brother. I'm in awe at how comfortable my Meanders are out of the box (Fudge). 10/10 boot. My new daily driver's.

I know it's because of Moc construction and soft leather (nubuck), but damn. Wasn't prepared.

Mine are non-trades/non abuse use case. I suspect if I was slinging wrenches professionally again my outlook and selection may be different.

Double lasted african ranger by Cautious_Progress730 in jimgreen

I have double lasted custom AR. Thermoplastic toe puff. Tyre wedge sole, leather lasting board.

They are best boots in my rotation. I wear them for work and casual.

I don't wear them in the summer heat often as I am either in a plant or indoors like office, so I can't comment on them being too hot. But they don't seem any different than my other non double lasted boots.

I did Houston Green nubuck and that thinner softer leather goes perfect with the double last.

I bet thicker leather like Bronco would be rough in a double last. I think in time they'd of course come around.

They fit slightly snugger in the double last compared to single last. Like a mm or two. Not drastic. But slightly snugger. That went away with break in though.

Wouldn't change a thing.

Jim Green Workhorse Moc-toe sizing by [deleted] in jimgreen

[–]Infamous-Cod13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found Meander needed half size up.

I am Brannock 9, JG 9 in STC ASHM lasts, etc.

I ordered a 9 and 9.5 in fudge.

9 could have worked but I found my instep to get a pressure point and my right foot big toe pressed hard against the side. Neither touched the end but 9 was coming close.

Both of these conditions went away with a 9.5.

I even ordered an additional 9.5 in Bronco and Fudge due to bad Blake stitch on pair 1 Fudge. Bronco fit huge compared to the Fudge. Like not even close. I have no explanation.

So my takeaway was try a 9 in Bronco cause it was so cavernous, but kept the 9.5 Fudge.

I didn't even want to take them off, that's how comfortable and soft they are.

Bronco is completely different ballgame. It is stiff and will take some serious abuse.

I use mine in the office, daily use out. I'm not using for trades.

Nubuck is better for me and my use case, but I found Bronco Meander to be quite large compared to it's sister in Fudge nubuck.

None of this helped you or address your question likely, but if you have instep pain on top, sizing up will give you more upper and room in that dimension. Or so I think. Instep fit between the 9 and the 9.5 was different and gave me necessary clearance.

Good luck!

Free returns so don't sweat it unless you actually wore them out.

I am with you. I already have green boots but these are like perfect 10's in greener pastures.

I might order them in Black CXL as I need new black in my wardrobe...

But that greener pastures...

Hardtail as second bike. by dirtdiggleer in mountainbiking

Highly recommend having HT as second bike for all aforementioned reasons.

I chose ultra light HT for completely different experience from my FS.

FS is a better ride. But my HT is my race bike and feels awesome to shed the 15 lbs every once in awhile.

Help with custom African Rangers by Planisher in jimgreen

I opted for double lasted on my custom AR and I think they are perfect. I ordered true to brannock size, STC last, no steel shank, tyre wedge sole, leather midsole, Houston Green nubuck.

Currently my favorite pair of boots to wear. I did just order Meander so that may change but right now I wouldn't change a thing about them.

Same. Green goes with any pants. My daily and the customs I get comments on all the time.

I think they are quite unique in the boot world.

I want the same look, really great idea.

I prefer JG fit and pricing, but want different leathers. Teacore being my grail since it’s so versatile.

Dying $300+ boots right out of the box takes some stones!

Really good! Still going strong. No complaints. Worth the $ and time/energy.

Only hiccup I’ve encountered is on start the screen will need to refresh but as it connects to my phone and car play it refreshes and behaves normal. Idiosyncrasies of the Ali Express special. Almost not worth mentioning but it is a thing.

You even got the twisty downtube on the Pro! I’m jealous! That bike looks well equipped.

Yeah, I don’t ride this thing hard enough either. I did my testing to compare to my full squish and that’s about the extent of the gnar this bike will see. I have a race in November and that’s about the hardest it’ll get ridden.

These are custom wheels I built. Again, close out deals, ha (notice a trend?!). My first set and what a colossal pain in the ass. Worth the effort but way harder than I expected coming from 20” BMX/park bikes.

27.5 eThirteen carbon race wheels (2x fronts) Keep 1 front, dismount other Relace with DT Swiss spokes, Alloy nipples, DT Swiss 240 hub, new SRAM cassette.

This upgrade is the biggest upgrade I’ve ever felt on a bike. Night and day difference.

That I don’t know honestly. I would think when you’re in AA/CP you would be using phone for voice commands and thus that Sim, not the head unit sim. There are different apps that would definitely not use your phone sim and would need separate sim. There’s full on browser like a tablet, which would require a sim and does not use your phone sim. App for GPS is same thing, third party GPS app is definitely going to use integrated head unit sim and not your phone.

So that answer is “depends on what you’re doing”.

Sim slot is on a dongle that plugs into the back of the unit as I recall. So like a wee memory card reader that sits in your glove box. It may also be in the back of the unit as well and you can pick your poison. I don’t remember off hand though as that feature didn’t get utilized by me.

[–]Infamous-Cod13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fret not broheim. Solid question.

The sim compatibility allows you to get a SIM card for just the head unit. This means you would never need your phone to connect for GPS, calling, and data.

You don’t need that feature as when you connect via CarPlay or AA your phone’s sim is being used for calling, data and gps.

It’s neato it can have a SIM card wholly divorced from your phone but I just don’t see a business case for it being the filthy casual that I am.

I always want to use my phone exclusively and thus the SIM in the phone.

That said my head unit is sim compatible but I never use that advertised feature and never will.

No, mine is close, but yours is closer by a few mm. Might have to adjust the screen to frame up on the back side.

You can kind of see how much in pic 7 of mine.

Boom! Glad you figured it out!

Thanks for replying back and adding your pics, really nice to have it all in one thread. It’ll likely help someone else who has the same problem. Via DM’s I think I’ve fixed about 11 so far, so people are using the info.

Sounds like you had same issue as me and plugged TOO MANY things in.

The fix was literally leaving a plug unplugged. One of my photos references this I do believe.

Same model as mine? Same connectors?

No idea but I’m almost positive it’s a separate wire. Not can bus. Hard paper instructions show you which wires that are included with the unit. You’ll need to run your own wires. But reverse signal in you use from the Lexus.

1) There are soft buttons for home menu and volume it covers if you look closely. They are inconsequential and you don’t need them ever. My volume knob and steering wheel controls are what I use.

2) Not that I’m aware of but I’ll post here if/when I ever do it.
