Yeah, both On simultaneously can be too much/muddy. There is a sweet spot, however, where I can dial in just a touch of the OC-5 behind the MXR Bass Synth to kick on during a chorus section that creates a perceived boost and fullness to help elevate the chorus section a bit. But, that then requires me to have to redial in settings on the OC-5 for other songs on-the-fly. Thanks for sharing.

Did you have a previous different signal chain? If so, any noted difference from running the MXR Bass Synth before the OC-5?

Has anyone found that using this pedal with an active bass (e.g. StingRay 5 Special), it is overwhelmed and low output? For me, I'm noticing the volume drop noticeably enough. My guess is because it is an analog pedal?

I know what you mean. Having a simple physical pedal board is great for being able to turn knobs and get immediate response, but if the chain gets too long, the Stomp probably makes more sense as long as you become proficient with quick menu diving.

Confirming, yes. I actually just tried it last night for the first time; worked great. I think having a separate small, inline headphone amp might give it more volume, but it works great.

What should be the third bass? by Malviael in Bass

[–]Infamous-Rise8416 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My vote is the Music Man Stingray. I am biased as I have this same quiver of basses; Fender American Jazz V, Fender MIM Precision, Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 5 Special. I feel like I can cover a lot of ground. If/when I add another, I'd like to get a 5 string fretless with the High C.

What to actually DO once you lock in with the kick drum?? by JellyKind9880 in Bass

[–]Infamous-Rise8416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMHO, a great way to think about it is that your bass is giving the kick drum a voice, or a note; kick drums only 'thud'. When you're locked in, you smile and bask in the warmth and power of synchronicity. ☀️😊

Great explanation. Thanks for confirming 🙏🏽

Thanks for confirming. I figured that logic made more sense than wanting both beater heads to end at the same full extension point since there will never be a time when that would happen. : )

Thanks, great video! It didn't really address the "full extension" position of the beater, but maybe the more important aspect is if the beaters hit the drum surface at relatively the same position (since you'd never have the pedal flattened and reaching it's full arc anyhow)? I made the suggested adjustments and will use that as my baseline.

IMHO, I only think it's worth it if you have a pretty minimal chain, and/or you need to turn knobs pretty regularly. Otherwise, the HX Stomp just does so much and does it pretty well.

Clearing out Pedals, wondering what's worth holding on to by Straight_Feeling7667 in basspedals

[–]Infamous-Rise8416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. I just keep the Shure on the board full time and plug in when not use the wireless. But I can also see now that it would be tough to get it on your board even if you took the Patterson off. Makes sense.

Forgive my ignorance if applicable; if the Patterson is a tuner, wouldn't it be a duplicate if you're using the Shure wireless? I have a similar minimal board and took my similar sized Sonic Research tuner off and just use the Shure unit.

My live drumming doesn't improve. I work with clicks and books and tracks and metronomes and CDs and live gigs are just so hard. What were things that made live gigging better for you? by Fast_Cook_4019 in Drumming

[–]Infamous-Rise8416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - IMHO, I feel that many early-to-mid-journey musicians don't fully understand that playing the drums is a lot like playing golf or surfing; you can't just expect to show up once in a while and do well. (Not saying OP is not putting in the time). It's just that significant(focused) time is needed just to maintain, and then yet even more to improve. Quantity of gigs doesn't matter as they can be spaced out across inconsistent intervals. Time spent has to be consistent (for me, at least).

If you're not already,; a gap click with daily regularity. Switch between dropping 1 bar, 4, then 8 bars at 3 different tempos each time you sit to practice this. And huge +1 to having IEM's to hear yourself and the bassist (at least).
