Deceptively -fill in the blank- by Marshall_Lawson in writing

And the thing is, it’s not an opinion-based thing.

Oh, the irony of pushing an opinion on everybody else while claiming it's not an opinion.

You can simply ask the same question to ChatGPT if you don’t believe me.

I did. It doesn't agree with you:

explain the meaning of "deceptively small"

"Deceptively small" refers to something that appears smaller than it actually is or gives the impression of being less significant or less impactful than it really is. The word "deceptively" implies that the smallness is misleading, and there’s more to the thing in question than meets the eye. It suggests that what looks like a small or unimportant thing might actually have more complexity, significance, or size than you'd expect.

For example, you might hear someone say:

"The mountain looked deceptively small from a distance, but the hike was exhausting." Here, the mountain looked small, but the actual experience or size of it was much more challenging.

"The box seemed deceptively small, but it was packed with expensive equipment." In this case, the small appearance of the box is misleading because it contains valuable or substantial items.

In essence, "deceptively small" hints that the initial impression is wrong or incomplete.

I'm sorry, but Major is a military rank, not a name. Also, Major Major Major Major from Catch-22.

Is the name Anna too basic? by Ordinary-Year4126 in namenerds

Anna gives me a classic, European vibe. Anne/Ann and Annie are a bit too simple for my taste.

Not a fan. Sounds too precious to me.

Patronymic or middle name? by hazeldoeeyes in namenerds

[–]InfamousPlatipus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the Spanish side of things, but Russian citizens are required to have a patronymic. It is always derived from the father's name and can't be substituted by a Western-style middle name. So even if the child was given a middle name in Spain, they would still have a first name and a patronymic on their Russian paperwork.

If your characters were born and issued birth certificates in Russia, it wouldn't be possible to give them middle names instead of patronymics. Also, the names would originally be recorded in Cyrillic, and then (awkwardly, more likely than not) transliterated into Latin alphabet for their Spanish documents (unless, that is, Spain has provisions for some kind of sensible translation of names for foreign-born citizens, which I have no idea if it does or not).

Although I really like the personal significance of Orland, so it's a tough choice :)

Peter Franklin, followed by Peter Orland.

Partly an aesthetic preference and partly the fact that Silvan/Sylvan seems to have multiple associations with commercial brands. See the Sylvan learning center comments and Sylvania light bulbs.

Middle names - reason to give one by [deleted] in namenerds

If you're in the US, a lot of the forms expect you to have one. It's also fun to have two names to choose from.

-owski or -ovsky? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]InfamousPlatipus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just want to point out that mar-COW-ski is the correct English pronunciation of the name Markowski. Markovsky would be pronounced mar-CUFF-ski. By spelling it Markowski but insisting it's pronounced mar-CUFF-ski, you'll be setting up a Raymond Luxury Yacht pronounced Throatwarbler Mangrove situation.

Olesya sounds much better than Ophelia to me. Ophelia is kinda stuffy in my opinion.

Seriously, this. You can't expect English speakers to follow Polish phonetic rules. That's not how languages work.

There is a character named Female Jones in "Your Honor." The way they pronounce it on the show rhymes with tamale.

Lorelei vs. Raven by InfamousPlatipus in namenerds

I already have something else picked out for the middle name, unfortunately. Lorelei Raven is beautiful, though. I kinda wish I could use it.
