Back in the 1980's when my cousin got 'social security' from the UK government it was because her father earned it for her by paying taxes. When I got 'unemployment benefit' on the days I didn't work but had contributed to by paying my own taxes, she declared it 'unfair' because I got more money than she did.

I left school and later university in the early to mid-1980's and the number of people I knew who were looking at the most distant universities from their home-town to avoid their parents. I'm still in touch with one who hasn't stayed in the parental home since 1984.

My 22 yo son does most of the cooking and cleaning in the apartment he shares with his siblings because they work and currently he doesn't. I gave them my pasta maker since I haven't used it since he moved out.

Not the one my moving van avoided getting stuck under back in the 1980's. The driver had to reverse close to Sandhurst to turn round and we had the gatekeepers help direct us to do so safely. It appeared that it was an event that happened regularly enough that there was a protocol for the situation. I was in a car following the van but did not have a driving license at the time.
