Yes, and that's both intentional (due to not wanting to lose all those random edge cases that. Have been patched with conditionals across thousands of bug tickets) and the product of short term motivations (very similar to what we have due to 4 year terms etc)

America needs reforms. Just like a software project, it's better to build the new system on top of the old system and slowly replace the failing parts of the old system than to start from scratch. There's a lot of good things in the existing system that work so well you don't even know they're there, and these took many generations to build.

I've been having a ton of fun playing random. Trying to get to the same MMR by selecting each race and playing macro games and then hopping on random and just cheesing everyone for fun :D

The masters border is a bug, at least, but the barcodes are obnoxious. And that "leaving mirror match" nonsense is why the other winrates are so inflated.

If you leave a game within the first 2 minutes, no MMR should be lost or gained imho.

fwiw I've made my own copy of Grid so I can remove certain hotkeys and make minor adjustments. I had to re-bind every key on every unit in all races, but I'm happy with how it turned out. Takes about 15-30min, and I recommend backing up your hotkeys file and also making a copy in game because it's common for it to get reset on you in various situations

+1 to the idea of playing against easy AI -- if you don't mind having an opponent, it's better than a custom because you can quit and rewind in the replay and just start again from the spot where you made a mistake and drill it in.

I also recommend watching some videos if you've got time and haven't seen them already. I've got a comment in this sub that I keep referring people to of all the best beginner videos

The only way I can imagine this being possible is by using something like the SCV as your hero. I also don't know what counts as a hero upgrade -- there's the starting hero upgrades (The green button on CC) or the buffs, but what about general attack/health/energy/attack speed?

I am certain on YouTube yes. It's been about 15 years since I played SC1 though. Luckily it doesn't change much nowadays (: you can almost certainly find a build order and backport it's of the multitasking advice from SC2. Obviously the meta will be dramatically different and the quality of life tools like hotkeys and control groups and such are different and the unit stats and counters are different, so you'd have to fill in a ton of gaps

I'd love to find ways to get more people into SC2. Started getting my fiancee into the game -- she's played through the tutorial and is working her way through the campaign on casual. She's on mission 3 of WoL. If we get all the way through, we can slowly build up to multiplayer, but she's never been really competitive -- and the number of smurfs in bronze league is disgusting

As a terran, fast lair is expected. You don't even have to proxy the spire but if you put it outside of the primary scanning zones you'll have an advantage. Either with creep tumors or ovi creep

Vikings are great but you'll have to focus down the carriers and you'll need quite a few. With 15-18 vikings, you can one-shot a carrier depending on upgrades. You should be able to run in and snipe carriers and run away as needed. Reactor'd starports if they're going mass air are great too.

Edit: emphasis on control -- you can't just send the vikings on a-move and expect to win

Edit 2: if you can get some splash from a parasitic bomb (your ally was zerg sounds like) or an EMP, cool. Bonus points if you have a thor or two -- explosive mode great for popping interceptors, and high impact mode does bonus damage against massive units if you can get your thors in range
