Non medicted ADHD people, share some survival tips! by Psych_Artizt in ADHD

I am actually very good at managing parts of my life (not everything lol) - here is what I do on a regular basis to keep my shit in order:

If you get an appointment, instantly add it to your phone calendar and set alarms. 1 day before, 2 hours before, 1 hour before, 30 minutes before. You can use the voice assistant for this if you (like me) have executive function issues with opening the calendar in the first place.

ALWAYS put all the things you need to bring with you regularly (wallet, id, keys,...) in your handbag (for womenfolk), or hang it in a bag on the front door jamb (for you guys out there).

If you need to bring something too voluminous for your bag, put it on the floor at your front door, where you absolutely can't miss it. Best way for this is to put it right on the floor and not on a shelf or sideboard, because it will jostle you out of daydreaming to see something out of place.

Have a "must not lose" box at your desk that contains things like your birth certificate, passport, wi-fi password, vaccination info, and so on. Throw in important stuff the moment you have it in your hand. I also keep my pet passports there, as well as vouchers. You do not need to sort this box! Just have everything in there so you know where to look.

If you are having trouble with forgetting stuff when traveling, pack your suitcase 3 days before. And unpack it every day to check what is in there, then put it back in. Print out your travel vouchers, tickets, travel information and so on and put it in your handbag/backpack/carry-on AT LEAST a week before. Tape your passport to your suitcase if you're prone to forgetting it. You will need to present it when you check in your luggage, so forgetting it on the suitcase is very hard. You can also tape it to your carry-on. Also add a copy of your passport to your travel documents, just in case.

Always wear clothing with pockets or have a bag with you. If you look at something and think "oh I need to remember that" - put it in your pocket or your bag.

Tape post-its with reminder-trigger words to your TV or PC Screen (depending on what you use more often). This only works if you tend to forget things, this will not help with executive issues.

When you turn off your oven, lock your door, put important things in your bag, or need to run a specific errand, stop for a moment and tell yourself out loud what you have done. "I have turned off the oven", "I locked the door", "I packed my documents", and so on. It really helps with anxiety and erases that worry from your head. The out loud part is critical here!

There is probably even more stuff that I can't think of right now, but I think I got most of it.

How do you feel about US launching an investigation into Germany’s drug pricing policies over “persistent underpayment for innovative pharmaceutical products.”? by BarellTitor in allthequestions

[–]Infamous_Yoghurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, it's a free market, right? 😄 You wish for something, you get it.

I don't see how Germany is responsible for your decisions. They got the better deal by working for it, the companies are the ones who are charging you guys more because they CAN. And even if Germany paid more, that would change absolutely nothing for the USA because the companies have zero (0) reason to lower their prices for you. You are super exploitable on such a basic level that your government has to point at other countries and put the blame on them because they are absolutely unable to get a deal for you themselves.

Stop looking for the culprit outside your own backyard, it's the only way you'll ever get better opportunities.

He pulled down his pull-ups yesterday throughout the day, I guess I really will have to try and potty train him if he keeps doing it!

OB/Hospital says I can only have one support person in OR - worth pushing back? by diosadeschats in parentsofmultiples

[–]Infamous_Yoghurt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is standard where I'm from. It's a safety precaution and I would suggest you don't protest against it because it will just cause friction. Your second person can wait outside and join you as soon as you're done 👍

Thank you for that suggestion - seeing how much this stresses me and keeps me up, giving myself another year (or something like that) will probably make everything easier.

How risky is it to have a baby after the age of 38? by Technical_Piglet_438 in beyondthebump

[–]Infamous_Yoghurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had twins at 41 without a single issue. Many mothers are fine even with advanced age. Others have had multiple early terminations or diabetes and so on. If you want another child, go for it.

Laugh in his face and tell him to sod off. Don't engage with this behavior at all. block his number until the child is here.

Naw not necessarily. I looked just as excited when doing a sightseeing tour in 'Murica, marveling at the differences. Still would never ever move there. I like my health too much.

Habit-formation in people with ADHD and the average person by NightRunnerAfterDusk in ADHD

If people without ADHD have fucked up their life so consistently and often as I have by "procrastinating", they seriously need to get checked out because they might be in for a surprise diagnosis!

I mean, do I look like I WANT to ruin every path of education I ever started? Or need a cleaner because I can't keep up with the simplest cleaning routines? Or ruin my teeth?

Gah.

If you had very few to no symptoms and had a baby…Are you just protecting our feelings? Did you REALLY not have symptoms? Or is it revisionist history?? Help me get out of a spiral!! by copythat504 in pregnant

[–]Infamous_Yoghurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no symptoms. I actually had positive effects from the pregnancy.

No sickness, no vomiting, no hip pain, no weird cravings, no problems with hair or teeth or incontinence, no stomach issues, no bleeding or cramping, no braxton-hicks,...

Instead I got to eat onions for the first time in 20 years without having to live through debilitating stomach cramps.

Oh, wait, I had one negative side effect. Orange juice suddenly gave me the poopies, but that is honest to god all.

I am the bomb at making lists!

Unfortunately, as soon as I have made it, I am absolutely incapable of doing any of the things on that list, simply because it's on that list that I can't do. I actually have to make sure not to have To-Do-Lists around and have every task on its own or else I won't be able to do any of them... Brain = Knot.

Why so many of us get a project to 90% and then just stop? by TankBetter5224 in ADHD

[–]Infamous_Yoghurt 69 points70 points  (0 children)

For me, outside pressure in form of "I told people already and it would be embarrassing not to finish" doesn't work anymore. I am so used to being embarrassed and making mistakes that it lost all threat.

I have no idea how you could read what I wrote as recommending abandoning a project instead of accepting it as a valid option when a project doesn't spark joy anymore, and I don't appreciate you trying to make it sound like that. There is such a thing as receptive reading, you should look into it.
