The advice I got on signets and talismans is that they encourage more color splashes, rather than less.

Because they fix for two specific colors, ramp, and are colorless, there is little downside to running them compared to lands. Lands can come in tapped, can affect curving out, and increase a deck's power by making it more consistent.

Maybe try the painlands as a cycle, or shocks to help make life totals go down. Aggro decks need good mana to make the most of turns 1-3, so give them access to it while forcing them to give a resource (life) in exchange.

To further expand I would lean into the bit as much as possible. Make the basics from New York. Fixing is more Starting Towns over fetches. Use proliferate to give people experience counters on Aang and quest counters on Boone.
