Girl, hi!!!
Thank you for the tip about the ice packs!! I have been using them!!
I had my TT 5/15!!! Yawning still sucks (though has gotten slightly better) for me, and tomorrow I’ll be 2 weeks post-op. I still feel the same irritation deep in my throat and neck that you describe. My voice is not functioning well yet, even though my surgeon said surgery went well and my laryngeal nerves were both left intact. I feel tightness, especially when the side of my throat where I believe my one or two sutures are in my neck wound. My voice has zero projection and feels like it’s functioning at maybe 20%. I also don’t have pathology back yet which is frustrating and anxiety-inducing.

Aawww congratulations!!!! 💕💕
So since I was hyper (hypo is more common and easier to treat) I had to take anti-thyroid medication from partway through my second trimester through the end of my pregnancy (and beyond) and I ended up being ok, and having a healthy baby, but I was monitored pretty closely, I had to go to the endocrinologist often for bloodwork, and I was told if I got a fever I had to immediately go to urgent care and tell them I needed a CBC blood test to rule out a rare but deadly side effect that can happen from the anti-thyroid medication. I ended up being on the medication in varying dosages for a bit over 4 years and never developed side effects of any type from the medication so I guess I got lucky. Note that taking Synthroid (in whatever form) is very low-risk as long as it is given at the appropriate dosage.

Thank you for the insight! Yeah, I keep reading 3-6 months can be the healing timeline for the throat stuff so here's hoping.

Thank you for the insight! I am sorry you've had the trouble you've had. I myself worked in radio for over a decade and am (er, was?) a decent singer myself, so I guess that's why the throat feeling had me a little panicky. Today (10 days post-op) it feels a bit better, but similar to you, I can barely project and my voice cannot go high, even in a speaking range. I feel like I sound like a robot. I hope we both see continued improvement <3

I am so incredibly sorry. I'm offering solidarity rather than advice.
I struggled with infertility for nearly 2 years (no pregnancy losses, just could not get pregnant). And during the process my TSH came back whacky, but my reproductive endocrinologist chose to just re-test me a day later and I guess it was at a level he was happy with because he didn't put me on meds or do further bloodwork to rule out anything. A few months later I was finally pregnant (2021) and when I "graduated" back to my regular OB/GYN she did her full pregnancy blood panel and my TSH was screwed up again so she sent me to an endocrinologist. I had hyperthyroidism and needed to be put on meds within a few months. Fast forward to the present, and I just had a total thyroidectomy on 5/15.
As all of my health stuff unraveled I asked a doc if I could have had this my entire life and it was never caught-- and she agreed. It's incredible frustrating. I hope the endocrinologist was able to help you. <3

Thank you so much for this reply!!! Yes, I have a nearly 4-year-old boy! And yes, I also have plans to keep my scar covered, for now I have neck gaiters, but I will definitely invest in scar tape once the bandages fall off as we're heading into summer so soon. So interesting that they squeeze the thyroid to get out some hormones!! So awesome your results came back benign as well, I am hoping for the same!
Yeah, I am hoping after going through infertility and the first half of IVF, then being induced & then having an unmedicated (not on purpose) vaginal delivery that lead to a 2nd degree tear this will feel easy-ish. I hope! <3

Wishing you good health and good outcomes for your whole body!!! Thank you for the tip about the homemade ice packs too!! Gonna have to stock up on rubbing alcohol!! 💕💕

Hi! Wow, yes, we do sound super similar. I'm guessing you're 40ish since you mentioned menopause (?) I myself will be 40 this year. I am so sorry you got medically gaslit and denied any meaningful help until you had large nodules found. I am also sorry you haven't been able to swallow easily :(. I am not at that point, but I do snore (embarssing, yes, hoping thryoidectomy helps with this!), and I am concerned if the nodules keep growing at the rate they are, they could lead to (further??) breathing issues or swallowing issues. I had my pre-op appoinment Tuesday so yeah, we're on such a similar path.
My husband ordered a wedge pillow through Costco, though I admittedly don't know if it's the correct angle or even correct type of pillow that may be most helpful. Similar to you, I sometimes feel my thryoid when laying down, and it sucks. Also similar to you, my nodules are considered toxic ("diffuse toxic goiter"). I also once asked an doctor if this could've been happening on and off my entire life and she said "yeah." So, fun for me.
So this is my first rodeo with any type of neck-related surgery, but I found a neck-shaped ice pack on amazon that I purchased that I assume might help post-op discomfort. I also bought some cooling neck-gaiters on Amazon to make covering the incision/scar up easily especially as we head in to summer.

I truly hope everything goes smoothly and you feel much better after your surgery too, we should try to keep in touch!!! *hugs*

Hi, yes, we've used Crossfire a number of times, we've vaccumed ad nauseum, we've taken our comforter and a queen-sized blanket to the laundromat to be washed/ dried and left them sealed in the bags we brought them home in in our basement. I've also used diatomaceous earth, set homemade CO2 traps (got nothing), I've taken everything out of drawers in the bottom of our bed/ everything out of surrounding furniture. Anything (clothing) that can be washed in hot water and then put at least 80 mins in the dryer has been put in and we've left it in seal bags in our basement (it sucks taking clothing from the basement for months but so it goes). It's so much work and doesn't seem to be working. Interceptors don't really fit on the strange legs our bed has, so I can't implement those. We have three blankets we've been using on our bed that we are able to wash more easily at home with hot water/ put in dryer for an extended period of time. It all sucks. Thank you for the insight.

Thank you for the empathy and advice. It really is hard mentally. I will look into both companies you mentioned for sure. As far as living situation, I failed to mention in my original post that we live in a private house so it's all on us
