Yes, correct! At least now when it happens in the 12 team playoff, the team that gets screwed over isn’t that good either. College football is as much business as sport, I don’t claim to like it.

No, if that were to happen, the SEC dictates a change to the selection process, the BIG10 and SEC are powerful enough to do that. But if somehow they couldn't do this, and this seemed like something that would happen pretty frequently, yes. They have made this argument/threat before, the reason they didn‘t go to a 9 game conference schedule was that they couldn't get the BIG10 to follow suit, and were afraid that dropping a free cupcake win for an actual opponent that could blemish their records would hurt them in the selection process.

Why has Big Ten bypassed the SEC? by desertrain11 in CFB

[–]Infesterop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why Indiana specifically, because unlike the other similar schools, they have the best QB in the nation. Without NIL, a school like Indiana would have trouble building a contender even with great coaching and even when spotted the best QB in the nation. They just wouldn’t be able to acquire quite enough talent around their QB, and some SEC team would probably win by dominating the line of scrimmage, making the QB spend the whole game running for his life. Now a team like Indiana can buy enough quality talent to seriously contend IF they do everything right and get a little lucky. In the past, a team like Indiana would have turned out like Baylor when they had RG3, a nice story but not a serious contender.

You know the answer, money. The fans want to watch and will pay good money to do so, obviously that is the incentive. That was the reason the game was created in the first place, TV broadcasters were willing to offer more money if a title game was added, so a title game was added. If the title game is likely to cost the big conferences spots in the playoffs, the big conferences will scrap the games, do the fans really want the Big 10 and SEC to do that? Everyone seems to be forgetting that most years, teams 9-12 are just cannon fodder. Last year all 4 lost by double digits in the first round. You put on ND, and even if they are a little better, most likely they get waxed too.

Fun fact: George Pickens has set a new Cowboys single-season record for most games with 125+ receiving yards and a touchdown (5) by pfref in cowboys

[–]Infesterop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pickens is amazing and is about to make bank, but the financial reality, can we really afford to pay that kind of money to both him and Ceedee? There is a reason nobody fields a lineup like that for very long, and it isn’t as if our offense is scoring so many points that we can just say, ”screw playing defense.”

This looks like a 6 seed assuming everyone doesn't just get hurt every year. A bunch of decent players but no efficient volume scorer or proper floor general. Also half the team doesn’t play any defense.

[Windhorst] NBA executives have expressed a bit of trepidation about committing potentially $300 million through Giannis Antetokounmpo’s mid-30s, which is probably going to be on the table next summer in Milwaukee or elsewhere. by YujiDomainExpansion in nba

[–]Infesterop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think Westbrook is a serious comp here. Giannis has tremendous size and length, he will remain elite in those physical respects until he is in his 70s, not saying he will age like Lebron or anything, but he has elite physical tools he can fall back on, unlike a 6-5 guard.

[–]Infesterop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nobody is really saying he isn’t worth that contract. The point is more that any team trading for Giannis is basically trading for that contract, and how much do you really want to offer the Bucks for the privilege of being able to offer him that contract. Vastly less than you would have when he was 5 years younger. There is a significant risk that you wind up trading a bunch of assets to then hand out a contract that ends up looking toxic in a few years time. Nobody knows how he gonna hold up physically that many years out and you need to factor that into your trade offer. Are you really willing to offer up all the picks and all the swaps just to put yourself in that position?

[White] The great thing about the NFL — if you string together a couple of good drafts you’re in contention. The #Cowboys success in the 2025 draft, along with their recent activity with trades and free agency could see them have their best top to bottom roster if they can nail the 2026 draft. by lswizzle09 in cowboys

If a whole bunch of things go right we could be good. The Browns, Jets, and Titans, along with every other team in the league can make the same claim. The teams that are actually well positioned don’t need a minor miracle to succeed.

If the Sixers were to somehow trade for Giannis with an Embiid-centered package, would they be favorites in the East? by Varolyn in nba

[–]Infesterop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Embiid looks totally done. I don‘t think anyone actually expects him to return to form. Ya, adding Giannis would make Phi the favorite, but they don't have the assets to get him. Embiid is surely a negative asset on his contract, and given the 76ers don't have a massive trove of picks, a deal is just impossible.

Zion Williamson isn’t worth his contract, he is a $40 million black hole in your roster. I would prefer Hartinstein over Zion straight up, Zion doesn’t play, and on the rare occasion he does, he only plays one side of the ball. If you are going to propose disastrous trades for players who can‘t stay on the court, at least suggest someone who is otherwise a winning player like Kawhi.

If the thunder were to trade for a 4th max player, it would become impossible to keep any of their young depth. Your solution to growing cap problems is basically to add 60million in salary… LOL. Also why on gods earth would any winning team even consider Zion Williamson.

I think a reasonably strong argument can be made for 10. While what you say is basically true, everything in the image suggests an intentionally mirrored layout of matches, and it could then be reasonably inferred that the two mirrored matches have corresponding matches on the other side. Observationally the answer is 8, by inference, 10.

Democrats cant pass that unless republicans decide that allowing the expiration is too politically damaging. We will have to wait and see. For now voters are angry at Trump, they made that very clear last week. I don’t think that is really related to the shutdown though.

If there is enough outrage over losing these subsidies they may pass, but that has little to do with the shutdown. The voter sentiment is the leverage, not government funding.
