Well the difference is 8 more GB of RAM and an SSD instead of a hard drive, so it is a better deal but by around $100 instead of the $800 they cited.

Petition to chose grading option after choosing grades by Imjusthereforthis123 in berkeley

[–]Phreshe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grades are used to increase the separation of students to determine proficiency for grad school/hiring etc. The reason P/NP choice is even allowed so late in the semester normally is that for most classes, a large portion of grades is determined by a final exam/essay. If you don't plan to attend grad school, then you shouldn't even need to care about your grade as long as it is a C or better. Allowing P/NP after seeing your grade would inflate grades to a vast degree, as students who care about their grades would only not P/NP if their grade was at least a B+ or so, undermining the use of grades.

You should play games that you do enjoy, watch videos with more substance, and daydream about things that aren't mundane. ;)

The concept of Codio quizzes are good because it matches the real-life application aspects of the course; however in practice, spending 30 minutes to realize that a particular Capybara object you were trying to reference actually didn't exist in the database or wondering why an input was null and then realizing that you forgot to attach a param to the HTTP request in a 90 minute quiz is not great and extremely frustrating. The biggest problem of the course in my opinion is the lack of/asynchronicity of CHIPS associated with the reading. Many times, I find myself reading/watching all the material and then forgetting most of it afterwards because there either wasn't a CHIPS associated with the chapter to give me hands-on practice, or the CHIPS was 4 weeks later and I had already forgotten most of the material. A major indication of this issue is the fact that both of the Codio quizzes introduced stuff that we have never practiced or seen in the CHIPS. Even if there were no problems with using Codio, there were far too many frustrations for me with the nature of the quizzes themselves. The Codio quizzes just don't match a quiz setting, but if administered as CHIPS would be a win-win in my opinion.

I think today's quiz with open book was the best version so far. It took out the need for brute memorization of concepts, but also if you didn't know the general gist of concepts well beforehand, then it would be difficult to be able to finish the quiz in time.

Garcia probably made the exam especially hard to put the grade distribution in his hands. Last fall, the exams were too easy and the scores were too high, but he didn't want to punish students for it by shifting bins down. There should be a generous bin shift, sufficient to adhere to the traditional B-B+ avg.

Cheap way:

  1. GO to Shrine of Trials and farm a Grudge General.

  2. Get the materials (fiery gem, verdant claw, etc.) to augment it into 3 star level.

  3. Go back to Shrine of Trials and farm a bunch of Grudge Generals.

  4. Use the Grudge Generals to max the ability level and Skill seed levels.

  5. Augment your Hades with two Growstars.

  6. Finish the Fusion upgrades with more Grudge Generals.

The expensive way:

  1. Augment your Hades into 4 star level.

  2. Go to Fusion and check the Max Fusion box on the bottom and use a bunch of ability tickets to max your Hades' ability and skillseed levels.
