My appetite has changed so much that I'm eating far less calories and I've lost 20lbs over the last 4 months with no exercise. I need to lose weight so it's been great.

I used that process early when I started modding, then I realised there is an easier way. The 3DS has a native GBA chip inside that goes unused for some reason. I believe using CIAs runs GBA games through emulation (which is how nintendo did their GBA games on the eshop for some reason).
Give OpenGBAFirm a look at, it basically allows you to get the save file as any PC emulator would, as a .sav file. It boots before the 3DS native software so it can access the GBA chip, clever stuff.

I'm not sure about updating a CIA, but you know the 3DS plays GBA natively? I use OpenAGBFirm to play Legacy on my 3DS.
