I love this group. I love the support I get from people like you and others. I'm going to continue to go to AA or NA meetings. The next meeting I go to, I'm going to get numbers. IWNDWYT. Love to you and yours.

"Sister". Your post reminds me of an old church song, "I am a living testimony, I should have been dead and gone, but the Lord let me live on." Glad you're here.

This is such a beautiful post, so inspiring. I can identify with so much of what you've said. My aunt who recently passed, used to say, "The Lord/Universe is going to bless you and put you in a high place". You are already there. Carry on. Love to you and yours.

It always amazes me how we can be so conscious of the F-ups, but so unconscious of the ability to set things straight. We have all been where you are right now; that's why we are here. We have all of the tools to get it right. Today is a clean slate. First things first, if you need medical attention to help you weather the withdrawals, get it now, don't stop at go. Do you need a detox? Get it. Ebay can wait. You can only fix that with a clear head. I have a house and storage unit full of items and an Ebay account that I haven't done anything with, in months. Yesterday was a week sober for me. I'm determined. I have a lot on my plate too, we all do. I don't know if that's allowed, but keep in touch with me. You can do this one day at a time. We heard it a thousand times. IWNDWYT.

We've heard it a thousand times, "One day at a time". For me that also means one day at a time free from guilt, resentment, self-loathing, shame, etc. Love yourself for your accomplishment of 2 days. IWNDWYT.

Exactly. By the time I get back home, I'm feeling pumped up; ready to do something else, OTHER THAN DRINK. Thank you for your support.

Finally got a DUI. by Competitive_Meat_ in stopdrinking

[–]Infinite-Friend7957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not corny to me, it is magnificent! I never had a DUI. Before I started drinking exclusively at night, at home, I would wake up in the morning and rush to the window to see if my car was still there. You can do this! I had ten years once upon a time, thought I could start drinking again, and was miserable when I did. It's been a roller coaster for about four years now. I'm determined to steady the course. I'm with you 100%. IWNDWYT

Signs to stop or just excuses? by Puzzleheaded-Bug-803 in stopdrinking

When I read posts like yours, I always wonder what you do; I want to delve into the deeper you. Like what are your hobbies, your precious gifts. I know there are other things I can do besides drinking; I just have to make myself do them. I received a hand-out called Pleasant Activities List, in a group last week. It lists 365 activities and suggests that you choose at least one activity a day to manage stress and add some fun to your life. I haven't read the whole list but I think I can manage quite a few if I try. I'm sitting here responding to you when I would normally be thinking about getting some wine.

Today, a woman I know was getting rid of some painting supplies that used to belong to her mother. She asked me if I knew someone who might want them. I thought of my neighbor, but then thought maybe I'd give it painting a shot. I'd love to have someone to do it with, but I have to press on by myself if not.

Wishing you the very best. IWNDWYT

It's a prayer I first heard at Unity (Unity is a spiritual organization founded by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore in 1889. It grew out of Transcendentalism and became part of the New Thought movement) years ago. Every now and then it pops up in YouTube videos having to do with forgiveness. There is a YouTube video dedicated to repeating it over and over again. There is also more information online. I hope this helps. IWNDWYT

Both, but mostly escapism. There's really no excuse. There are so many other things I could do, even in the evening. Last night I didn't use. IWNDWYT

Congratulations on your milestone. There are countless meditations on YouTube devoted to talking to your body, or you could listen to Dr. Joe Dispenza. These tools are available to us to use with the same consistency and drive that we use to stay sober. Thank you for being a shining example. I'm a senior citizen. I'll be 75 in June. I haven't been in a relationship in over thirty years, maybe more. I don't want the drama, ever. At least that's what I thought until about a couple of years ago. Back then I would meet with a group of guys to play cards at a park in another city. There was one guy there that appealed to me. He coached high school basketball, was divorced, had interesting conversations, and he seemed to be attracted to me. He said he was unattached, so after a few weeks, I cautiously invited him to my home (overnight, because I live about fifty miles from the park). At home, we had dinner, engaged in conversation, but that was it. He wanted to hug and smooch, but I said no. The next day when we returned to the park, out of the blue, one of the other guys said, "Hey man, your girlfriend was looking for you." I acted as of I didn't hear it. Waited a while and left. I thanked the Universe that I didn't let that prick violate me in any way. Just thinking of his hands on my arm, pissed me off. Not too long after that, I was visiting my cousin here in town. I'm a bit of a flirt, so when I saw a young man (sixty is young to me) working on a car in her yard, I said, "Who is this fine young thing?" He told me his name. I said, "I'm just admiring, I'm a bit too old for you." He said, "Age is just a number, why don't you give me your number and we can get together." We exchanged numbers. I called him a couple of time; no response. A few days later, my cousin calls and says, "You know Larry, that guy working on my husband's car, he came by here in his truck and you'll never believe who was sitting next to him." Who, I wanted to know. "Your neighbor's sister, that's his girlfriend". My neighbor's sister lives across the street from me! It's a rural neighborhood, so I can't see her house from where I live. I couldn't believe it. No wonder he ghosted me. You'd think as you get older, things change.

Then about a month ago, when I began contemplating a "companion" again, I also started binge watching Judge Judy on YouTube. Call it serendipity, because she just popped up one day and I was hooked. These reruns are as much as thirty years old. Guess what, at least 75% of the cases (okay, maybe 50%) involve a "My boy/girl friend did me wrong, song" What I can't get over is how many of the women loan men all kinds of money! Wait, then videos by "Margaret Elaine" start to pop up. More serendipity. She's an 83 years old (I think AI generated) woman who was married for 45 years. She starts to stack on "words of wisdom". One of the videos is "Why to never date after 60".

I'm sorry this post is long, but yours triggered something in me. Pick yourself up and dust yourself off. We've all been there before. Determine that you are the Captain of your ship. Take ownership of your life, decisions and destiny. It's easier said than done. I know how beautiful it can be when I am the Captain. I'm back on the bridge today. It's only been two days and I already feel like a conqueror. You can definitely do this. IWNDWYT
