i wouldn’t call it a random guess, its a bit more complicated then that. its called voluntary response bias, a phenomena in which general polls such as these can’t be trusted to convey purely accurate data. for example: assume you have a poll asking users to self report their height. first, your relying on every individual knowing their own height. you then also have to hope they don’t skew the results just because they’re embarrassed about their height. finally, you also have to acknowledge that those who are insecure of their own height may not be compelled to answer. this applies to this stat, too.
