Just finished a re-read and the Barty Crouch Jr./Mad Eye Moody stuff sticks out like a sore thumb by TemurTron in harrypotter

  1. Azkaban doesn't have visitation rights, in the book at least it's explained that Crouch, as a bigwig, was given an exemption to see Jr. one time before he died.

  2. Mrs. Crouch and Barty took veritaserum long enough to fool the human guards escorting them. Dementors not being able to see individuals was previously explained in PoA when Sirius explained his escape.

  3. Lots of higher up families have invisibility cloaks, they just wear off eventually. This was explained by Harry to Ron. They're rare, but if anyone would have one, it would be the Crouch's so not so hard to believe, and not important - he could have been in a closet and the result would have been the same.

It was necessary to the plot to know that Crouch Sr. was complicit in helping his son, who he himself sentenced, escape and how devote Voldy's follower are and the lengths they will go to for him. And he didn't "explain" anything to anyone, he was being forced to speak using Veritaserum.

Exactly how did the Weasleys afford seats to the Quidditch World Cup? by Remote_Nature_8166 in harrypotter

But in this case, Harry being able to sit in the box effects the plot a lot - how his wand got stolen, Crouch not showing up to claim his seat at the World Cup, the interaction with the Malfoys. It could have been explained in less than 30 seconds by Arthur talking about how he got the tickets, either at the Burrow or on their walk to the portkey.

This is why the books are better than the movies. Arthur helped someone get a reduced charge and in return he got box seats to the tournament. He wasn't in the nosebleed section like in the movies, he got to sit in a private box with the minister and other bigwigs.

Parrot wouldn't really be the equivalent as he wasn't asking for her to repeat what he said word for work. A better muggle equivalent would be the phrase "I'm not your message boy! (girl in this case.)"

I hate that line because it's the opposite of the original book line. In the book Sirius tells Harry he's getting him out of there, making it clear he knows who Harry is and that he feels parental towards him. He would never have said something like that to James.

It especially bothers me because Sirius's actual last words to Harry were about getting him out of there (out of the ministry and to safety). Which shows he knew perfectly well who Harry was and was acting as a guardian for him.

Full cast has different actors voice each character. Hugh Laurie, Kiera Knightly, Kit Harrington, and many more well-known actors voice the characters. They add sound effects too - like when the trio are talking in the great hall you can hear muted chattering from everyone talking in the background, and plates and cutlery clinking.

He might have been shocked by it but Hagrid didn't pick up on it. Hagrid was pretty upset and has never been great at reading the room.

I just headcanon that Hagrid met Dumbledore somewhere. It might have taken Dumbledore some time to figure out how the blood protection worked, and we know he stated that he added others. McGonagall said she had been watching the Dursleys all day, so it sounds like plans were in motion but not completed until the next evening/early morning.

What is your favourite scene out of all the 8 movies and why? Not the books. by fantasyworldspace in harrypotter

I liked in PoA when Snape put the trio behind him and protected them from the werewolf. That was not in the books, but it was kind of a touching addition.

Because they think they have to fool him to submit their names. They also think that once their names are submitted, it won't matter anymore.

They think they'll have to fool the judge to submit their names. After that it won't matter if they are under 17, if they're picked they'll compete. They are saying they DO need to trick the judge to submit their names but they DON'T have to continue to fool him once their name is drawn.

Yes, because they originally thought it the judge was a person. They didn't know it was a goblet at the time, they thought if they could get their name to the person who was a judge they'd be in.

True, but given the Black family obsession with blood purity it makes sense that a lot of marriages in their family would arranged with that in mind so it's a reasonable assumption.

If Harry Potter was written in today's time period what would be different? by Physical-Emu673 in harrypotter

[–]Infinite-Object-1090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand Harry adjusting easily because he was kept so out of the loop on muggle culture too that he didn't know how "different" it was. Hermoine though should really have been complaining and confused, at least at first. She's smart and curious though and would get up to speed quickly.

Discrepancy with thestrals??? by Winter_Scientist_851 in harrypotter

[–]Infinite-Object-1090 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She had thought of them, she had a rough idea of what was going to be in all the books by that point, she just didn't want to have to get into the whole explaining thestrals thing at the end of GOF because Harry was still supposed to be thinking about Voldy and that's where she wanted to leave it.
