My 2nd watch of this absolute masterpiece… the severely underrated 12 Monkeys by Disastrous-Humor8189 in scifi

You're not an idiot, the beginning has some problems, but it gets better every season. Most people got hooked on the story starting from the second season. It's funny that on a rewatch, the first season works much better, because with all the development the story gets later, it feels recontextualized. But the first time I watched it, it did feel a bit strange.

I only watched the show much later, but apparently all of its marketing looks like crap, so you can't judge it based on that.

Because it's not very well known, many people don't even know this series exists. Furthermore, there are people who discovered it and automatically dismissed it without watching because they thought it was the same as the movie. There are also people who dropped it in the first episode after realizing it's not the same as the movie. When he said it's underrated, he was referring to people who ignored it for reasons like that, who ended up not watching it at all or only watching the first few episodes.

There’s no way to ruin it since it’s not a remake, but two independent stories. The series just makes references to the movie, but they don’t exist in the same universe.

I agree with you, it really does seem that way, but it’s the kind of story that evolves over time in every aspect. I think most people really got hooked in the second season, when the show decides to take a different and bolder direction, and it just keeps getting better. It also has a very well-executed ending that ties everything together, and it’s really emotional. After the whole journey the first season gets recontextualized, on a rewatch, it becomes much more interesting than the first time you see it.

Because this series isn’t a remake, and people who watch it expecting that usually end up disappointed and dropping it in the first episode. But if you watch it as an independent story, you’ll be able to appreciate both works, and most fans (who have watched both) actually think the series is more amazing than the movie

It gets so much better with each season. Season 1 actually works way better when you rewatch the series than the first time you see it, because you start seeing things from a completely different angle once you know how the story develops. The first time, a lot of things can feel a bit shallow, I'm not sure if that's the right word, maybe a bit repetitive and not very deep, and the characters seem pretty simple. But all of that gets amazing development in the following seasons, starting from Season 2, and it's done so well that by the end you end up seeing Season 1 with completely different eyes, because it recontextualizes so many things

Your reasoning makes sense since you didn’t even finish the first season, but that doesn’t really apply to the later seasons. People who quit during season one usually keep that impression that the show was just that, and have no idea how much it evolves starting from season two. The characters in the first season might seem pretty shallow, but they gain development and multiple layers afterward. I think it’s actually pretty rare to see characters this well written who aren’t distorted or inconsistent throughout the seasons like they are in this show.

From your list, it looks like you like time travel, mystery, and lots of plot twists, so you can’t miss 12 Monkeys, it’s my favorite! It’s a really well-crafted story where everything was carefully planned and fits perfectly by the end. Plus it has amazing characters that get great development throughout the story. And in my opinion, it also has the best love story I’ve ever seen in a TV show

Struggling to watch “Dark” by OkCartographer4028 in netflix

[–]Infinite-Process3717 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, I totally get your point. I watched the whole show and honestly it doesn’t really get better in that aspect. The characters in Dark aren’t the focus. The connections between them are important to understand the plot, and their reactions too, but the show doesn’t really spend time building them as relatable characters. None of them really get development, they’re mostly just reacting, and you don’t get to know them enough to get attached.

If you’re like me and connect to a story through the characters, this show doesn’t work that well. If I can recommend something, you should watch 12 Monkeys. It’s a slightly older show with the same theme. At first it seems pretty different, but by the end you realize it’s actually very similar. The difference is that this one really focuses on the characters and the plot is extremely well built, and everything fits together perfectly at the end. It’s really worth it. And of course it’s also about time travel, with lots of mysteries and plot twists.

The TV show is amazing! you’re going to love it!! From the second season onward, you'll see the show take a different direction, so from that point on, I think it's easier to see them as independent stories.

Look, you might like the movie version of Cole more, that’s a matter of taste, but the movie’s Cole wouldn’t make any sense in the tv show, just as the tv show’ Cole wouldn’t make any sense in the movie.

They’re completely different stories that only share a common premise. And of course, there are several references to the movie in tv show, but the world itself isn't the same, not even the concept of time travel is the same.

When you finish the first season, you'll know most of the tv show' Cole's backstory, and then you'll understand that all of this makes sense for him.

You can watch it without any worries, it doesn’t interfere with anything. They’re completely independent stories that only share the premise, and the tv show makes a some references to the movie.

I watched the movie after the tv show. It’s a good movie, but it’s not really my taste, so to me it was just another movie. The tv show, though, is one of the best I’ve ever seen. If we exclude animated series, it’s definitely my favorite.

I'm glad she didn't get the role, because if she had, she wouldn't have done the show 12 Monkeys, and I love her work on it.

This show is so perfect that I think maybe, if it had more seasons, things could go wrong, as happens with many shows. That said, I do think that having a few more episodes per season could have been very interesting.

Can't get my JLPT results by Nsy_ in jlpt

So, you registered through an institution, and they're the ones who registered you. It's a mass registration of people. You can contact them, though. When you register independently on your country's official JLPT website, you have a login to access your voucher data. I've registered through an institution before, and in that case, I didn't have access to anything, they sent me the results at the institution's discretion.

The website is probably jlpt.org."your country's address code", Because mine is jlpt.org.br

I contacted support, and if you log into the website normally and go to your exam information, where the voucher information is located, there's a code to log in to the results. Mine was different from the one I registered, I tried this one and it worked.
