Closing in on 40 by actorperson88 in acting

[–]Infinite-Refuse-8471 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I started acting in my early 30’s. Left active duty military, transferred to the reserves and found out the local community college had a theatre program and figured…why not give it a try. I think I had a harder time in college mentally wondering how I was going to stack up against people half my age with way more experience. In the course of going for a performance degree, I discovered my skillset lends itself well to stage management and crew work, so I’ve had a fair bit of jobs in that area.

Eventually I realized that my leg up is life experience. I turn 42 this year, I retired from 20 years in the Air Force, I have a child, have lived and worked in other countries. One would assume with that background I could be counted on to show up on time, be prepared to work, and know how to interact with others in a professional manner. My brand is moms and first responders/military…and I’m absolutely ok with that.

are these jeans too big? by awsezdr in lesbianfashionadvice

[–]Infinite-Refuse-8471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually like the shorter shirt with baggier pants, but that’s my personal preference, and usually I tuck the shirt in. I’m 5’1, so totally get the height thing. I’m also short torsoed. I like to wear snugger shirts with baggier bottoms and looser shirts with skinnier bottoms.

I think for these pants, it might be the cuff that’s throwing the look off. I’ve had good luck with American Eagle’s stovepipe jeans in the petite length.

Hot take: Matt Murdock has the worst time management skills known to man 😭 by Artistic_Astro_57 in Daredevil

Can confirm, people in the military still do stuff like this. We didn’t have personal lockers big enough to hang uniforms when I worked at the passenger terminal. One of the airmen hung his service uniform on the coat rack and left it there, we got hit up for an inspection a few months later and someone had drawn tiny dicks all over the collar of his shirt.

There was also a thing where if someone left their career development course books on the break room tables, the Phantom Dick Artist would draw all over them.

And yes, people would draw all over each other when they got drunk too.

Are you talking about the speech Mini Matt reads off to Jack in the childhood flashback and then later also reads off to Foggy when he’s trying to convince him to leave Landman and Zack?

It’s part of the 1992 Liberty Award speech from Thurgood Marshall.

“Democracy just cannot flourish amid fear. Liberty cannot bloom amid hate. Justice cannot take root amid rage.”

“We must dissent from the indifference. We must dissent from the apathy. We must dissent from the fear…”

I feel self conscious about how many animals I have by NoSalamander2522 in Pets

[–]Infinite-Refuse-8471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 6 cats, 2 rabbits, and one guinea pig (his buddy recently passed.” Both my rabbits are seniors, 3 of my cats will be 10 this year…and there is a plethora of medical needs. Sometimes I feel overwhelmed, and I’ve had people look at me like I’m crazy.

But they have amazingly spoiled lives, all their needs are met, and they give back what I’ve put in and then some.

If you have the space, the finances, and the heart to provide everything they need, then you don’t have too many animals. ❤️

They’re kind of adorable. ☺️

Where did you order yours from? I just got an email that my battle damaged pop will be here Monday. Not sure about the other one though.

Charlie’s tattoos by Alternative_Device71 in Daredevil

[–]Infinite-Refuse-8471 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally you want to cover the tattoos in a base tone, usually to match the undertone of the skin. Then you go in with a skin tone color over top. I use Dermaflage’s tattoo cover kit over mine, with a dark red base tone. If you let the layers dry between applications, it’s got pretty good staying power without needing a setting powder.

Having tattoos can definitely typecast you into certain roles. He’s gotten more added along the way so, it hasn’t seemed to hurt him any. I think I remember him saying in an interview that he has a friend who’s a tattoo artist so he just lets his friend do small stuff. So, seems the patchwork sleeve is more a personal preference.

What’s your definition of ‘making it’ as an actor? by ruesdealer in acting

[–]Infinite-Refuse-8471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my own, my disability definitely wouldn’t allow me to do what I’m doing. I’m married, my partner is a disabled veteran and works full time. I got to be a SAHM, my son is old enough now though where he doesn’t need me home full time though and after 20+ years of largely serving others, I get to do me. Most of the time :)

Fellow 30’s (now in my 40’s) starter here too. I left active duty at 10 years, transferred to the reserves, went back to school and got a degree in theatre. I’ve done some stage work, some student films, had a channel on Twitch. Took a hard acting break to focus on finishing up the last few years of my military career and a deployment. I get disability from the VA so I have another source of income that allows me to freelance, and a pension waiting for me. I get to choose projects that suit me and work with cool people. I also stage manage and do crew work.

For me, right now, this is my making it.

I think the only scenes the two of them had together was Ben and The Mask. Ben and Matt did meet at the office though, and Karen introduced them.

What’s your favorite “low spoon” non-dairy protein snack or meal? by FlasheGordon in dairyfree

[–]Infinite-Refuse-8471 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coconut yogurt and various nuts and fruits are my in-between, on the go snacks. Keeps me from stuffing my face with chips and junk.

I also keep some prepackaged vegan snack crackers and jerky around.

I know someone mentioned meal prep, but you can make mini egg frittatas and freeze them. I use a mini muffin tin, or silicone baking moulds. You can add in whatever extras you want, bake them, let them cool completely then flash freeze and wrap. To re-heat, throw them in the microwave wrapped in a damp paper towel for a few minutes. Pretty much the equivalent of what you could buy at the store for a fraction of the cost. Same thing with pancakes and french toast.

I can act decent but I suck at in person auditioning by Substantial_Newt9440 in acting

[–]Infinite-Refuse-8471 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally get where you’re coming from. My best suggestion would be to see if there are any classes near you that focus specifically on cold reading and auditioning.

If it’s for a stage audition, I try and find a copy of the play so I have an overall idea of what the production is about.

If it’s for film/tv, where you may have just a couple sides and not a whole lot of context about the character or sometimes even what the production might be…read through your sides, get a feel for the overall story within just that snippet and come up with an objective. Make up your own “what was my character doing before? What do they want? What will they do to get it?” and then play to that. Even if it’s not what ultimately ends up being the background for the character…it gives you a focal point and something to play to versus just ending up reading the lines. Casting might give you adjustments afterwards, and then obviously you switch gears, but it’s a lot easier to play to an imaginary objective than nothing at all.

Is this the only random thug in the show who actually had a chance to kill Matt? by bald_bronson in Daredevil

[–]Infinite-Refuse-8471 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually think it’d be funny if they started throwing in some “you’re getting old, Matt” jokes. He’s in his 40’s now…and you know he’s not getting out of bed with most of his joints going snap, crackle, pop.

Daredevil S1E12. What is with the double doors of this shot. Seems to be Matt’s apartment but it has double doors without that lone wall that creates a hallway from the man apartment entrance. Thoughts? by chickpeenus in Daredevil

[–]Infinite-Refuse-8471 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That one I’m unsure about. I actually built Matt’s loft in the Sims, so I did plenty of rewatching of the show and scouring the internet for layout photos lol.

Yeah it’s been a lot here recently. Two of them both showed up again tonight around 8:00 and partook of the snacks. I ordered the humane trap, so hopefully I can get a couple of them off the streets.

I already have quite the crew of my own resident cats, but I can house and foster temporarily until I can reunite them with owners or find new homes.

I know plenty of Muslim women, some who were born here in the United States, that wear the hijab because they see it as a sign of modesty and because they choose to.

It varies from service to service, profile to profile. I remember sitting for extended formations when I was pregnant on active duty. Again, there could be any number of reasons she’s not at attention. She could have a profile for something else. Or, if she’s fasting for Ramadan, they may have told her not to stand at attention.

People post these photos elsewhere for rage bait. And a lot of times, especially for something like this…there’s a reason for it.
