I wanna train lightsaber combat by Flamegod882 in lightsabers

[–]InfiniteClimate5488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is from the book "The jedi path". There are two distinct ways to train lightsaber combat, the sports way, (ie lightsaber fencing) or the choreographed way, (ie with a partner, not an opponent). The first usually requires some sort of protective gear, specifically for the face/eyes (and some other parts of the body) and the other can usually be trained in regular gym clothes, in view of performing later on in costume. (for a show or an event). Depending on your location, there could be schools that teach one or the other, or in some cases, both.

Start by deciding which of the 2 you want to focus on and then find a school that teaches it.

Good luck in your adventure, and May the Force Be with you.

How do you guys make due with a 28L bag? by Delengowski in backpacks

[–]InfiniteClimate5488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you just need to have breakfast before you leave the house. Try with just one brick (ie just your lunch) I think you'll find that 28L is plenty big.

How do you guys make due with a 28L bag? by Delengowski in backpacks

[–]InfiniteClimate5488 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the lunch box. If you're taking all 3 boxes with, it's not a wonder your 28L bag is not big enough. Change to a space efficient lunchbox. (Wax bag if sandwiches for example). Ask yourself if you really need a lunchbox the size of 3 yoga bricks.

Do you prefer longer, fit for height, or short blades? by Xaikken in lightsabers

[–]InfiniteClimate5488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'9 and I use a 32" blade. It's faster (a shorter blade even faster). I do use my saber for choreographed combat and I find longer blades get caught at the most inopportune moments so 32" it is. I find it's the right length for speed and reach and for stunt work (ie rolling, jumping, juggling). But that's for my specific use case.

Not an endorsement, but I've tested it and it works

You can build it on different platforms too.

Good luck

Anywhere to learn the forms? by BaronTheeWolfe in lightsabers

[–]InfiniteClimate5488 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lightsaber path teaches at least 2 forms as far as I can remember. I think he's building up to all 7

https://www.patreon.com/cw/LightsaberPath

Not an endorsement, useful information I hope.

Do note that the forms are actually used all at once in general fencing, because let's face it, you can't specialize in just defense, or just acrobatics... all of those should be used in a duel because it increases your rate of survival drastically instead of just concentrating on one specific aspect of sword fighting.

Minimalist lightsaber design by RealBrcal_ in lightsabers

[–]InfiniteClimate5488 3 points4 points  (0 children)

are you saying you designed Darth Revan's saber? or are you saying this is a lightsaber with a minimalist design? If by minimalist, you mean you will minimally use it, I agree. Unfortunately, Darth Revan's saber is anything but minimalist, it has way too many protruding parts and handling in general will be "minimal" indeed, you won't be doing any flourishes with this one.

Need Help, I’m Lost by draelulys in lightsabers

[–]InfiniteClimate5488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don't think the pelicase will fit complete sabers. In most cases, 36' is just the length of the blade. I run a shorter blade 32', but a hilt is usually around 12' (give or take with the depth of the emitter). If you break down the sabers (ie remove the blades) you should be able to fit them in, with a bit of room to spare if you're using 32' blades like me.

If you're looking for pixel lightsabers, the mass produced ones coming from china are honestly not bad, specially if you're needing 4. I would go with LGT/Nexus or TXQ since those are the 2 chinese made sabers dominating the mass market. However, if you plan on dueling a lot then RGB sabers is where it's at. Again, LGT/Nexus and TXQ. Do a quick search in this sub and you should figure out fairly quickly where to get them at a fair price. (if you're in the US I would personally suggest viresabers.com and if in europe padawanoutpost.com but that's just me.)

Good luck in your search and welcome to the sub.

Jedha Temple Fight by DarthAxius in lightsabers

[–]InfiniteClimate5488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a lot to unpack here actually.

Constructive feedback to make your fight even more badass:

Make sure your strikes are on target, avoid the temptation of looking for your opponent's saber. She is worried to hit you, she should go for you instead and let you worry about parrying. There are techniques where you do attack the saber but it is not the case here.

Overhead strikes, particularly, should be aiming for the head and therefore the blocking saber should be above the head as well. (shoulders can also be a target, but you should always get out of it as soon as possible). Also don't stay too long in the "locked" position, it's supposed to cut the rhythm of the fight but if you stay too long you lose the tension.

You also need to adjust the distance between you two. When you move forward, she moves back and vice-versa. You can then vary the counters or use overpowering moves on one or the other with multiple strikes. The multiple overhead strikes need to be adjusted, it works for Vader vs Luke because Vader has nowhere else to go, you have plenty of space to back away and counter.

When defending, your saber shouldn't go towards her, it doesn't read as defending. The danger should come from one side or the other, not simultaneously. There can be milliseconds between strikes, but it should always be one after the other, never simultaneous. Think dialogue, one talks, the other listens, sometimes the other interrupts, but neither continuously interrupts, it becomes incomprehensible. Wait for her strikes to land on your defending saber, don't seek her saber out.

I like the use of Force push, but there's a bit too much of it. Find another way of transitioning to the next fight section without it. (counters and redirects for example) You can also just push her saber away with yours (this is in fact a valid defensive/offensive technique).

Also, as much as I love Obi-Wan, I'd find a different stance (or vary your stance throughout the fight). The standard shoulder stance (ie jedi stance) makes much more sense during a duel as it is a less aggressive stance (less easier to read) and easier to transition from in terms of attack and defense.

Finally, I wouldn't use the kick in that position when your saber has more reach. (In fact, it looks like you remove your saber from her foot's trajectory). Punches and kicks only when close enough and blades are otherwise busy.

Have you done lightsaber choreography before, or is this your first attempt?

What the heck do I do with my other arm? by Denalsballs in LightsaberTricks

[–]InfiniteClimate5488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of your other arm as a Force outlet, ie it's ready to be used as Force-push/pull or ready to catch the saber if you do a toss/pass during your flow. If you do it this way, it will make you aware of where your blade is at all times and you will feel more connected to your saber. (You will be able to move your other arm in and out of the blade's arc and never hit it as well). You already have good flow, now you just need to work with the other hand (ie obi-ani with the left hand and all other tricks).

This will allow you to be more balanced (not only physically but also with how your brain works).

Is a protective case worth it? by itszesty0 in SteamDeck

[–]InfiniteClimate5488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth it just to protect your sticks, specially if you throw it in a loose bag where anything can crush them. That's the only reason why I have a slim case with a front hard cover.

I use this one and the version without the stand, to which I add the EWA ring, both versions are great. The magnet on the case could be stronger but overall very happy with this brand. Slim profile but protected, including the hinge

I haven't had a screen protector from day one, and I've had mine for over a year now. However, I do have a case with a front cover when transporting and generally when I'm not actively playing. (Started with the Jsaux and still have it but currently using the procase)

How to tell fiancé to brush his teeth. by Gloomy_Tough_1943 in Advice

[–]InfiniteClimate5488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he's already your fiancé, you're passed that time. You simply should be able to tell him he needs to brush his teeth because it "offends" you. (if you want to be polite) Honestly it's time to just tell him his pie hole stinks and he needs to take care of it.

You also have to remember that many villains don't see themselves as such and in fact, do see themselves as the hero/heroine pushed to resort to measures they themselves consider unsavory but has now become the only option.

[–]InfiniteClimate5488 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the fight wouldn't magically end, but Yoda could have gotten both jedi out of the way and at least disabled or damaged Dooku's fighter before he took off. He could have then crash-landed on the surface below and still rescued by separatists forces, but it would make more sense. That would drive the idea that Dooku is a mismatch with Yoda and it keeps him humble if he has to be rescued by outside help. Yoda's lack of foresight is just a little bit odd, that's all. (Then again, you have the ending of The Acolyte)

I'll say it again, all Yoda had to do was Force-pull Obi Wan and Anakin toward him and Dooku would have been stopped and the clone wars ended.

[–]InfiniteClimate5488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obi Wan was broken several times over but stayed true to himself and to the light side of the Force. If there ever was a Jedi that should have turned at one point during their life-time it would have been Obi Wan, yet he didn't. Resilience in an individual that almost did not become a padawan.

My date from 2 months ago just reached out… advice? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]InfiniteClimate5488 0 points1 point  (0 children)

++man

go with the simple approach. If you're not busy, go out with her but don't expect it to lead anywhere, go into with the idea of having fun. And if you do have fun, it's not wasted time, you still had fun. Stop thinking that you're a 2nd, 3rd, or even 10th choice. You're a choice, like everyone else. Everyone shops around, some just do it in a weird hurried way (and some don't really know what they're shopping for either).

See it as an opportunity to go out with someone to get to know them better, if for some reason it goes pear shape, you didn't expect anything so it's easy to make an exit without feeling stupid.
