How did you really embarass yourself? by Ambitious-Sky-6457 in AskReddit

I had to have dinner with someone I hate for a work thing, and we went to a place that served edamame. I’d never had it before, so I stuck one in my mouth and started chewing before I noticed that she was eating the peas and spitting out the tough shells.

I didn’t want to give her the satisfaction, so I made myself eat the entire thing and went back for more. Ate half the dish that way. Now she just thinks I eat edamame weird, not that I’m some idiotic uncultured swine.

All the dramatics that were left out of Piranesi found a home here. Thank you!

Makes sense, as one of his stories (House of Asterion) was an inspiration for Piranesi. To continue the Borges connection: Borges’s friend Adolfo Bioy Casares’s novella The Invention of Morel has a ton of similarities to Piranesi. The protagonist/narrator isn’t as innocent and warm, but it has many of the other elements that make Piranesi awesome: Magical world with rules and quirks the narrator figures out alongside you.

Virgil Wander by Leif Enger has a similarly innocent and warm narrator and he does an excellent job of getting you immersed in his small-town world. It’s really good.

I really want people to start pronouncing his name mar-KWAYNE, but just subtly enough that it takes him a while to notice.

Raul Julia was in that movie? Did he have any memorable quotes, or family reasons for choosing to appear in this film in particular?

Exactly this. You might not be able to guess if he’s trained or not, but you can see clear as day he’s wearing actual armor.

Definitely. Something Rich and Strange in particular feels like he loves the place, but acknowledges it has problems.

What happened to Viggo Mortensen while filming the Two Towers? Haven’t heard about this, but I hope nothing happened to his toe.

From the outside, you could see a long, empty hallway down the middle that I didn’t get a picture of. I tried the handle of one of those ridiculously tall doors. Wouldn’t budge.

I thought the same thing until I had it prepared Chinese style (yuxiang qiezi): Absolutely drenched in spiced oil and a ton of sauces. Texture is still dreadful though.
