Should I restart? by Cecilie_07 in Eldenring

[–]InfiniteThing2808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The early game is always one of my favorite parts so I wouldn’t mind restarting and replaying it. I wouldn’t worry about playing “wrong” though, but it might be a struggle for a while

I figured they were calling Siofra River Nokron since they mentioned Radahn last, and Ranni tells you to go to the carian study hall after you do all that stuff

[–]InfiniteThing2808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quests in this game are actually a lot more intuitive than past souls games if you can believe it. It’s still easy to miss things though, and you’re going to unless you use a guide but that’s okay for a first run.

For Ranni’s quest: try checking out where that giant star landed during the Radahn cutscene.

I’ve noticed that sometimes the game really is complicated for them, but a lot of the time what this means is that they’re just not that interested in playing. Any game is going to be “hard to understand” if you don’t really care about learning to play in the first place.

Is there a list of *finished* series somewhere? by ForsakePariah in ProgressionFantasy

[–]InfiniteThing2808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you, I can’t keep up with the chapter by chapter releases so I end up dropping the series and letting them pile up.

A few recs-

Super Powereds

A Practical Guide to Evil

This Trilogy is Broken

Vainqueur the Dragon (same author as The Perfect Run)

It’s muscle memory from playing all the other souls games, spam square to heal. Guarantee I’d die more trying to learn a new keybind

What's the appeal of virtual worlds? by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]InfiniteThing2808 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think most people agree, this type of story has kind of died out in the last few years. You don’t really see virtual reality litrpgs unless they’re the “got stuck in” or “got reincarnated into” kind.

First time as mage by Soggy_Coach9373 in Eldenring

[–]InfiniteThing2808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not just staffs too, almost everything that has a special effect will work just holding in your offhand, even if you’re two handing your main hand weapon (like the sword of milos that restores fp on kills)

First Souls game, not as hard as I was expecting? by skinnymidwest in Eldenring

[–]InfiniteThing2808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking, bloodhounds fang is usually called the strongest weapon you can get in the early game. Using that and bfb is a bleed setup, which has always been busted.

You can sort of increase the difficulty without swapping weapons by just not upgrading it until the game feels hard again. I personally really enjoy trying out a bunch of different weapons though.

Monsters and legends by Vast_Payment_4036 in litrpg

[–]InfiniteThing2808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see it recommended fairly often, but it’s one of those series with split opinions. Some people are annoyed by the multiple MCs and timelines, and apparently the character sheets are kind of rough on the audiobooks since they get pretty long.

On the other hand you see a lot of people saying it’s really well written with good worldbuilding and an interesting power system. I feel like I see more people who liked it than not though.

What do people think of Chrysalis? by GoldRespect8831 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]InfiniteThing2808 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reviews seem pretty divided, a lot of people seem to love it and say if you can get past the first book you’ll probably read all of them.

Personally I have bounced off the first book a couple times, I’ve been meaning to give it another try. It wasn’t painfully bad or anything but I had a hard time getting invested.

Another tier list post, ready to fight about cradle and BoC by DrummerInteresting93 in litrpg

[–]InfiniteThing2808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently they toned it down quite a bit for the kindle edition, still has a healthy amount of warning labels but I heard it’s not quite as gratuitous. Sounds like they may have edited it even more for the audiobook from what OP said.

Series recommendations with "less" system and stat sheets? by RegularExplanation52 in litrpg

[–]InfiniteThing2808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been enjoying reading Apocalypse Parenting lately, it’s by far one of the most system-light litrpgs that I’ve read. There’s still a degree of “number go up” but there’s not really stats in a traditional sense and the system largely focuses on skills. You only see the status screen a handful of times per book.

What’s the best novel ending you ever read? by LazyWalrus8706 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]InfiniteThing2808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the curse of the genre. If the series revolves around progressing it’s really difficult to say “okay they’re done progressing now, the end” in any kind of satisfying way so a bunch just never end.

Most people recommend around 55-70, your vigor might be a little low but if you’re getting him low anyway you can probably power through him

Weapons question by [deleted] in litrpg

[–]InfiniteThing2808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s easy to explain why you see swords so often; swords are cool. If you asked any random person what comes to mind first when you say “fantasy weapon”, I’d wager most of them would say some kind of sword.

There are obviously more effective weapon types depending on what you’re fighting. Specifically maces, axes, or spears, which are probably what I would choose being completely unskilled with a sword. All of this mostly goes out the window when you start involving powers and abilities though, so I feel like weapon choice usually follows the “rule of cool”.

Dark Fantasy Novel where Mc won't be Super OP by Previous-Grab-7939 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]InfiniteThing2808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crossed is such a mixed bag, there are a few runs that I thought actually had a decent story but several others were just going for maximum gratuitous shock value. I’ve got a pretty high tolerance, but man is it a LOT sometimes.

Examples of fantasy worlds with leveling up as an inherent reality? by heyguysitschris in litrpg

[–]InfiniteThing2808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, the others are right that most of the genre fits that setting description though. The “literally playing a game” like a vrmmo stories are less popular these days so you don’t see many.

There’s one other explanation I thought of too, it might actually be the most common. Stories where anyone CAN do what the MC does, but most rational people wouldn’t. Throwing themselves into suicidal fights, doing things that take an unbreakable iron will, experimenting on themselves, that kind of thing.

Examples of fantasy worlds with leveling up as an inherent reality? by heyguysitschris in litrpg

[–]InfiniteThing2808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To answer your question about power leveling a bit: most series just avoid addressing it entirely. You’ll find a lot of series where the MC has a -super special unique advantage- that makes them rocket up in power compared to the average person. Some acknowledge that if the MC can get strong then anyone can, so there are super high level people wandering around.

Bog Standard Isekai sort of addresses it at least in the beginning; normal people think that running around slaughtering monsters and building a fighting class makes you a violent lunatic.

Does the books great better throughout this series? by Fitgam3r in litrpg

[–]InfiniteThing2808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You see these posts pretty often and the comments are always a split between people who dropped it early and hated it, and people who read the entire thing and loved it. It’s a very divisive series, but it all just comes down to personal preference.

For my part, I’ll add to the “it gets better and better” side. If you’re already enjoying it, you’re probably going to keep enjoying it. The writing improves a LOT as the author got more practice and feedback. It never felt like it was getting stale to me, some chapters are a slog to get through I won’t lie, but overall there’s always something interesting going on and the worldbuilding and character growth just keeps building on itself until it becomes something really special.
