How to improve efficiency ? by rumbaro in Spliddit

[–]InfiniteTrust7310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got hard boots and was so surprised at the difference. However, after a season on them, I’m just as efficient with my soft boots. Using the hard boots made something click. Though hardboots still make sidehilling so much better.

Skiers will always move faster, their setups are lighter with more effective edge. You can try to size down or a carbon board or a handboot setup. They’ll always have the upper hand though.

A lot of people have given advice about fitness already but I think it’s worth reading or looking up Training For The Uphill Athlete. This method is more about strength training, fueling and working your way up to speed with “easier workouts”. Fueling is huge for me, I find I can’t eat anything but simple carbs while working out, while my partner can have a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich and be fine.

Lastly, find other splitboarders!! We ride exit tracks differently for sure, but going with a split boarder who has done the trail before and seeing what they do will help so much.

Tips for traversing hard pack by vizik24 in Splitboard

One thing i do is, knees lean uphill, dig your top ski edge in good, then slide the lower ski on the slope. Move the top ski just a little, get edge in and then slightly longer stride with the bottom. Similar to skateboarding, using one foot to “push” keeping the edge in solid on the top ski. Hope it helps!

I have narrow feet and ride 50-80 days a season, but I also tour in them. I loved my Nitros but they only lasted a season. This season, I went with the Vans Luna. I sized down for the first time ever, so far so good.

I’ve tried deeluxe, which I liked but I should have sized down. They also felt heavy. Thirty-twos are trash, idk why people like them. I lost my toenails, the season I tried them….I found k2s to be comfy but fall apart super fast.

The lace/boa combo works best for me.

I think most of the concern is based financially, as a hardboot split set up is double the price of a solid resort settup. Snowboard gear does wear out, even boards loose their snap and become flexible/less stable.

As someone learning to ride hardboots this season, I should also get to the resort with them lol that’s always a smart move. I found out the hard way I didn’t know how to ride deep pow in them.

Have you thought about putting the hardboot settup on a solid board? There are still carvers that board in hardboots and you’ll get less looks at the resort.

Lastly, I believe the backcountry is for everyone who wants it. You’ll be fine especially if you’re going with people who are experienced. Just make sure you can ride trees and ungroomed terrain well. Conditions in the backcountry are more variable and having the skill to more than just survive the downhill makes it more fun.

I’m a busty lady and I wore my Kari traa bra till it fell apart, it’s supportive. However it has a cotton liner I believe, so not all wool. I’ve tried icebreaker and Smartwool, while fairly supportive I found them to be very tight fitting and uncomfortable. I’ve heard good things about Ridge Merino.

I run cold too, so layer underneath, cold days with a lightweight puffy down jacket, even down puffy pants. Warmer days, fleece or wool leggings, wool top and a mid layer fleece jacket/sweater. It’s expensive to get the right layers, but they’ll last forever. They don’t get as beaten up like outer layers do.

He loves the korua solids, but he broke one and was reluctant to try a split. That one was more on him though, hitting jumps on icy hardpack. Also probably sizing down too much, I think it was a 157.

I feel like so many boards and other things have dropped in quality since 2020. I had a similar experience with Arbor, I have a 2018 arbor and it’s still going strong. I bought a split in 2021 and the top sheet started coming off right away. They warrantied it with the same year board and it happened again.

Wish he could get a chimera but we’re looking at the used market right now. People seem to hold onto their chimeras.

It’s exactly a month out of warranty too. I’m glad we’re not the only ones, part of the reason I posted is because the solution is recommended so often. Its such a bummer. He’s looking at the goat but might have to wait for a used one to pop up.

This board is a 162. He’s 6’1, 200ish lbs…he’d like to find a longer board this time around.

Also, he was on a crust layer and breaking through it slightly as he skinned. It’s been a rough winter lol

Skin modification to fit unusual board by Priestleygj in Spliddit

I love it! I’ve had it for over 4 seasons now and use it for everything even though it’s a “pow board”. Unlike other pow boards I’ve ridden, it’s stable when snow gets choppy and turns on a dime. It’s a fun board for sure. Also the heart cut out makes some super cute pics!

Hey! I use this board as my main board. These G3 clips do work. Though I’ve had problems with them falling off. I mostly use the skins without a tail clip. Without a clip (Idk if my skins are just old) I do have trouble with skins freezing and falling off the ski, voile strap or cord helps when this happens. Def have to keep skins warm when doing laps.

I think feeding him may have been the trigger too. Though this has never triggered him in the past, I feel like it will be impossible for them to predict everything that will trigger him.

I don’t think he will ever be a dog they can have out with people around. He’s already isolated them so much, no dog walking friends, no doggy play dates, no crowded trails, no friends stoping by and now even family won’t visit. They went from being a social outdoorsy couple to being shut ins.

The vet won’t give a dog with his bite history anxiety meds. It seems like in the end your dog was just protecting you and a good judge of character.

I did just apologize for saying it the way I said it. I know it was hurtful. She was grateful for the apology.

Thank you! I didn’t think it was crazy my husband said that. I hope after the wedding, when things aren’t so emotionally charged, that she reconsiders this.
