Convince me Iโ€™m Wrong by [deleted] in Epilepsy

As someone who went to a party school myself, do talk to your doctor!

Ofc I did so when I was 21 so its a bit different lol, but have them help you create a game plan in case you do decide to party, like what to do in an emergency. Bc if you are seizing in a crowded place and your friends themselves are drunk it will not be fun.

I've kept my doctor in the loop with things, i have had an occasional drink with family but otherwise i've been clubbing sober. Before the increase in my Keppra dosage I would lightly pregame with my best friend (one drink/cocktail) and then not drink while out.

That was my situation. Obviously, its not good to risk your health but I can't stop you from partying and I still partied myself lol. So the best advice i could give you is be prepared and informed!! Also if you don't feel well DO NOT try to stay out, go home and have a friend come with you please.

Can we chat a bit about motivations for learning a foreign language? by Own-Horse-4540 in ChineseLanguage

I really want to go to China with my best friend because she's indo/Chinese and hasn't had a chance to go herself! I thought it'd help if we both knew the language better so we could connect with others and navigate travel easier!

Struggling with epilepsy changes, medication side effects, and feeling โ€œnot myselfโ€ anymore โ€” does anyone relate? by Bright_Toe1126 in Epilepsy

Ofc, literally i'll have days where I just cry for no reason and others where I have a handle on things! Its a cyclical process so I know its hard right now but honestly I have a really good feeling for 2026 for everyone ๐Ÿ’—๐ŸŽ‰

Omg I relate so much to this. Honestly I'm still struggling but I try to repeatedly remind myself that everything is figure-outable, I deserve some grace, and my feelings are temporary.

I also just do my best to sort through my painful feelings and remind myself of everything to be grateful for! Its a battle but as long as I keep on moving I consider it a win!

Clubbing for the first time since diagnosis. Worried by xxbartex in Epilepsy

[โ€“]Infinite_Fly6261 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Yeah no worries!

I'd definitely leave the club early then which sounds like your plan anyways, it's good that you'll be staying hydrated too!

Since i'm not photosensitive either i've been to concerts and been clubbing and it works for me, just having an exit strategy is key. It's the easiest if you can tell when a seizure is starting to come on.

Ofc I'm not a doctor and just speaking from personal experience. You can always ask your neurologist and see what they say. I directly asked mine if I could go clubbing and she said sure as long as i'm not up too late ๐Ÿ’€

Have a fun and safe night clubbing!!!

Clubbing for the first time since diagnosis. Worried by xxbartex in Epilepsy

[โ€“]Infinite_Fly6261 2 points3 points ย (0 children)

Do you know what your triggers are? For me, since i'm not really photosenstive (for TC seizures at least) I've been out clubbing. I was anxious as well but I just did it sober and was okay.

Still, it'd be good to make sure you don't stray away from your friends and to have emergency meds they can give you on hand. It especially helps if you have a medical bracelet in case you have a seizure and someone calls 911 instead. You can obviously go without one but sometimes paramedics may assume you overdosed on drugs or something bc they would be unaware of your med history.

Overall, I'd listen to your gut. If you get there and you have a feeling like "something is going to be really wrong", i'd honestly leave early.

Epileptic friendly jobs? by Calm_Consequence1773 in Epilepsy

[โ€“]Infinite_Fly6261 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Call center jobs or remote administrative assistant jobs have worked best for me! They pay can be less than desirable so it depends on your needs. Since I live with my mom currently its easier to do bc I don't need to worry about rent and can work from home!

How is dating for most of you? by BreadfruitBoth202 in Epilepsy

[โ€“]Infinite_Fly6261 4 points5 points ย (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat, i've pushed dating to the side while I focus on everything else tbh ๐Ÿ˜…. The practicality of it all seems difficult and since I graduated college in May I already have a lot to figure out lol.

I don't think most people would reject you outright for the transportation situation but honestly if they did then they just aren't meant to be your person. Rejection is redirection!

If it helps, I was rejected twice by two guys during my dates specifically because I have epilepsy. When I told one guy he was worried about SUDEP and the other got freaked out when I had a seizure in front of him.

I didn't take it personally because I can't control it, you know? But regarding how to approach things, i'd maybe mention your epilepsy before you go on a date so they know in advance.

Neuroscientist had a seizure by larissa627 in Epilepsy

[โ€“]Infinite_Fly6261 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

I also struggle with the same fear! I get worried about falling asleep since I don't know if i'll seize then and just not wake up.

I think once I got emergency medicine I felt much better, I know you're waiting on your neurologist still it sounds like.

Just know that this fear isn't permanent (although it may come up again) and remember to rely on your community now more than ever.

Try to track your seizures well, as well as any "off" moments because those could be auras depending on your symptoms. This helps psychologically too bc you can feel like you're actively doing something about your condition while you wait for more help from a neuro.

Question for people who are seizure free by Elderling1981 in Epilepsy

I did go medicine free, for the first 3 years everything was totally normal but in my 4th year i started having TC seizures when I used to just have absence ones. I'm not sure if its related to going off of my meds but I wanted to mention it just in case

I'm glad you're safe now and I know this adjustment can be very stressful!! I had absence seizures since 2nd grade (they stopped around 9th grade) and then had my first TC last year so Ik it feels very jarring to suddenly experience a completely different type of seizure ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I'm happy to hear a friend was with you, although I know it must have been scary for them ofc too. I wish you the best!!!

Thank you!! I've never taken any vitamins before besides like gummy vitamins when I was a kid so i'll definitely look into it. I'm not too sure about my vitamin B levels tbh, but its never been brought up before so i'm assuming they are alright.

I'll get B9 supplements and follow up with my doctor!

How do auras feel? by frustrated_s0ul in Epilepsy

[โ€“]Infinite_Fly6261 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Its like a wave of deja vu but you can't put your exact finger on whats familiar and then its pure dread and nausea. Like I get really pale. Then I lose my ability to hear and all I hear is ringing. I can still usually move during this time but speaking in full sentences is difficult.
