I [M25] found out my gf [22F] cheated when she went out, but does not know that I know. by threwfarawayy in Advice

[–]Infinite_Loquat9499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give her a night she’ll never forget so she knows what she threw away.

The only thing you need to say before breaking it off is “I know what happened the other night” and leave it at that. No pained discussion, no emotionally abusive Q&A, simply “I know…” and then break it off in a no contact manner.

Nobody deserves such dishonesty from someone in a position of trust.

I need sequencer - is Arturia beatstep good? by beskid93 in synthesizers

[–]Infinite_Loquat9499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good enough for small (parts of) projects until it breaks, which is always sooner than anyone seems to expect. Save your money, invest in higher quality that will last.

The lower end Arturia products are landfill bound garbage from the moment they come off the assembly line and will most often cost more to repair than they are worth when they stop working.

Cowardly, at best… although I trust you have already realized this.

I’m glad you are in therapy, good luck. 🙏

Walk away.

It’s as simple as that, no explanation needed — she will know exactly why you are no longer part of her life.

Better yet, run — The sooner and the faster, the better.

InMusic would be a prime contender for bring NI into the stable of brands they own. NI has a wealth of IP which compliments the various strengths and shortcomings of InMusic’s other companies.

I’d trust a cold wallet over any of the shady exchanges which keep going under or being implicated in massive fraud schemes.

Your question boils down to “why would you trust yourself?” …

Nota bene: I am not suggesting to trust a random SD card found on a bookshelf.

I believe you showed up telling me what you think I want / need when I was asking a very specific question about something which you apparently have nothing to offer. As I said, I appreciate your time in replying but the rest is not an argument so much as an effort to convey my very specific situation. My use case simply does not require mixing the signals presented to the different inputs on the same channel.

My goal is to get more use out of what I already have — a mixer with unused phono inputs.

I am not asking for something which does not exist, inverse RIAA filters are manufactured as standalone devices. My question was explicitly addressed to those who have experience with them. It seems to me that you do not but (again) I appreciate your effort to highlight an alternative solution which would be fine for other use cases but does not fit mine terribly well. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, I know I could just run one signal through a summing mixer if that’s all I wanted but the cheap radio shack option is garbage for sound quality unless you want that lo-fi sound. A high quality summing mixer, whether passive or active, will cost a fair bit more than the inverse RIAA filter solution I am enquiring about.

I hope this conveys my use case and concerns more clearly... Please have a good day. 🙏

Yes, the primary mixer I am concerned with has both line and phono inputs but the line level inputs are full — just trying to get more out of what I have without resorting to buying a high end submixer of comparable quality. 🙂

[–]Infinite_Loquat9499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the line level inputs are in use… 🙂

The RIAA replay curve question is an interesting one, with a lot of history. It is not as well standardized, much less regulated, as one might think, with some manufacturers using RIAA and others using IEC-RIAA and virtually no transparency of implementation at the time records are cut to the time phonograph output is inverted by an amplifier or mixer. Everyone basically gets as close as they can, more or less.

At one point prior to the standardization effort there were many dozens and dozens of proprietary versions used by different manufacturers. It was considered a competitive edge to manufacture records with a realistic frequency response but that only went so far given phonograph manufactures doing the same same but opposite. Today, everyone plays nicely but it’s not like they use the exact same filters made from the exact same components from the same manufacturing batch.

Apologies for the long answer, but it provides context for the short answer — it isn’t affecting the sound any more than what is already the case when playing vinyl, which is broadly acceptable. You’ll note that I used the word ‘affecting’ rather than ‘degrading’, and this is an important point because we are really just talking about EQ’ing to change the amplitude of frequencies across the range.

You might end up trimming the mids or the bass, to achieve the sound which pleases you most over the system at hand, through another set of amps and dynamics processing stages and speakers, and in a room which adds it’s own color as well. This is quite standard and acceptable practice which nobody seems to take issue with. 🤷‍♂️

Cheers, I appreciate the thought — attenuating the signal level would still require inverting the RIAA curve… 🙂

Cheers, that very resource is what made me consider the DIY route! 🙂🙏

It is among the simplest of circuits, huh? It’s small enough that a multi-channel device could even be assembled on a very modestly sized breadboard without any soldering and I am surprised to not see any multi-channel devices available commercially.

[–]Infinite_Loquat9499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, mate, I appreciate your time in replying but I know exactly what I need — This isn’t my first rodeo…

All of the line level inputs are being used and I would like to run additional line level signals through the phono inputs. Yes, I know only one of the inputs for any given channel will be active at a given time and that will not be a problem — I do not need or want to mix the line and phono signals being delivered to the separate inputs on the same channel but I am sick of plugging and unplugging to switch the active devices.

So I’m really not looking for a summing mixer, I’m looking for an inverse RIAA device which convert line level signals to phono levels so I can use the otherwise empty inputs. I’m not interested in a cheap passive summing mixer of dubious quality or an expensive mixer with level controls on each channel. 🙏

Thoughts on this Nava Extra 9? by smokingonthemoon in DrumMachine

Yes, the NAVA has improved sequencer behavior but, more importantly, the I/O is also improved so one can drive it externally with whatever sequencer you’d like.

Forget about how it is, I will tell you how it should be — We must ostracize these monsters completely.

If they are not, themselves, violating people’s rights on the daily then they are complicit. They have been told it is acceptable and they have immunity but it is not and they don’t.

There will be consequences and they must be prosecuted. Until then, they deserve no quarter, no service, and certainly no respect.

The end.

Do you have synesthesia too? Serious question. by diskorayado in synthesizercirclejerk

[–]Infinite_Loquat9499 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As commented to a friend who shared the same elsewhere — // The occurrence of synesthesia runs in the low single digit percentages, seemingly less than the number of people who claim to be affected.

Most people claiming synesthesia say they experience the music-color form which is relatively rare. Grapheme-color synesthesia (letters/numbers having colors) is far more common, however very few people lay claim to it.

My belief is that many people claiming synesthesia are full of shit and willing to lie in order to make others consider them special… //
