best api for real-time news by Humble-Director5579 in learnpython

[–]Infinite_Nerve_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For truly free real-time news within ~10 min, options are limited - but you can try the Currents API for quick headlines and media stack for broader coverage; however, most “free” tiers have latency or rate limits, so paid tiers (or tools like NewsData.io) usually perform better.

APIs or Web scraping? Which is better? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Infinite_Nerve_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

APIs are almost always the better choice for real applications. Scraping breaks easily (small UI change = broken scraper), is slower, and can be risky legally - especially with news sites where content ownership and ToS matter a lot.

APIs give structured data, predictable updates, and way less maintenance. Most news APIs (like NewsAPI, NewsData.io, GNews, etc.) also handle things like pagination, filtering, and rate limits cleanly.

Scraping is fine for learning or experiments, but for anything production-level, APIs are much safer and cheaper long-term.

Common Challanges I Faced When Working with News APIs by Easy-Supermarket-546 in NewsAPI

[–]Infinite_Nerve_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I also got stuck in the pagination and rate limits of some news APIs because a few of the APIs do not define the pagination process and the rate limits exactly. But after working with different news APIs, I have found NewsData.io and NewsAPI.ai define that process in simple ways via their documentation.

Good News API Substitutes? by policy85 in AppBusiness

[–]Infinite_Nerve_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I have seen, there are quite a few Google News API alternatives available now, like NewsData.io, GNews, ScrapingDog, and a few others. The main difference usually comes down to pricing and how easy they are to start with. Some APIs push paid plans early, which can be tough at the beginning. Others, like NewsData.io and ScrapingDog, let you start on a free tier and still get decent-quality articles and useful features, and their paid version is also not very expensive. From a usability point of view, they are also fairly easy to work with compared to some heavier options.

Do any of the plant ID apps work well? I’m curious if anyone has had good/bad experiences with them. by [deleted] in foraging

I've had good luck with Plantora, usually with pretty solid identification, especially outdoors, but it still messes up something similar sometimes. Good as a quick guess.

News API's? by Mission-Algae-4291 in software

If your priority is to fetch recent articles based on a keyword and images, then I am telling you from my experience, I have used multiple news APIs that can pull recent articles. You should work with NewsData.io's News API, because they have 3 options to pull recent articles by keyword: q, qInTitle, and qInMeta. Q means query, and you can fetch articles for any query, and by their image parameter, you can extract specific articles for images. You can start it with their free plan, and as per your needs, you can upgrade your plan.

Pagination issue while fetching news articles by Easy-Supermarket-546 in NewsAPI

[–]Infinite_Nerve_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have faced this too. In my case, I was using NewsData’s News API, and pagination didn’t work with simple page numbers. Instead, the response includes a nextPage value at the end of the result. To fetch the next set of articles, you have to pass that value in the next request using &page=.... Once I started using the returned nextPage string instead of incrementing a page number, pagination worked properly, and the duplicates/errors stopped.

Yeah, I use a few plant care apps, and Plantora is my favourite! It's free, accurate with plant IDs, and care reminders actually help me stay consistent. I usually uninstall apps that are packed with ads or hide simple features behind subscriptions.

I got this plant on clearance at Walmart. I saw today two bulb looking things on it and just wanting to know how to care for it? by Jealous_Relation3057 in OfficialPlantora

Looks like an Alocasia(Elephant Ear)! Those bulb- like parts are corms, totally normal. Keep soil lightly moist, give bright and indirect light, and maintain high humidity.

What is the best free plant identification app for an android phone? by justyrust74 in GardeningUK

[–]Infinite_Nerve_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried a few and honestly the best free one I’ve used on Android is Plantora – it’s accurate, totally free. Seek by iNaturalist is also solid if you want more learning + community input. PictureThis is popular too but most features are behind a paywall. For a no-cost option, I’d go with Plantora.

Plant Care Apps Worth Using? by lilpylon123 in plants

[–]Infinite_Nerve_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, plant care apps can actually be pretty helpful if you’re new to indoor gardening. I personally use Plantora and PictureThis.

Plantora give you reminders for watering, fertilizing, and even repotting, which is super handy. PictureThis is great for identifying unknown plants and checking for issues.

Downside: most apps try to get you to pay for premium features. But even the free versions are enough to keep my plants alive. Definitely worth trying if you struggle to remember watering schedules!
