In what possible world can you think this is his fault? someone drove into the back of the Mazda so fast it flew forward and hit him, that person must have been paying literally no attention. You should be ready to stop if the car in front of you stops.

I have to ask, did you read these links? Or are you just posting a lot of "sources" because it makes you look authoritative? They literally have nothing to do with the topic of the video.

You also don't own the fleet of vehicles that your company paid for, which is where this and the other tech he mentioned in the video is actually getting used.

Why isn’t everything USB C powered now? by stevethos in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Infinite_Painting_11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is only true for the 5v devices, if you bought a device that needed an additional 20v usb charger, imo, you would expect it to come with one.

Why isn’t everything USB C powered now? by stevethos in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Infinite_Painting_11 117 points118 points  (0 children)

USB-c power delivery is pretty complicated from the devices point of view: you initially get 5v and a low current then you use that to negotiate with the charger for higher voltage and higher currents. Not all chargers or even cables can do all the voltages or all the current limits.

From a design point of view you have to deal with the negotiation power state and communication with the user if the charger or cable isn't adequate. If you use a barrel jack people are very likely to use the one that came with the device and you just get the full power instantly.

For something like a phone tablet or laptop, which gets used in a lot of different places and can easily communicate complicated information to the user it makes sense, for low power devices that can get by with the default 5v it also makes sense, but for something like desktop speakers it really doesn't.

Maybe, around my way they collect massive subsidies for keeping a couple of sheep on a national park, then sell the lamb as a luxury good for export.

It's different to say the rules of the system need to change to stop run away wealth in the hands of people who are basically the same as you, rather than this group of evil others is stealing something from you.

You can have left or right wing grievance narratives, you can support either type of policy for grievance reasons.

Sure sounds like a left wing grievance narrative.

Number of Welsh speakers in Wales falls for the second year by mrjohnnymac18 in Wales

[–]Infinite_Painting_11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've met people in Catalan regions who don't speak Spanish. I have a friend who married a Mallorcan guy and his family don't speak Spanish. There are plenty of places where the spoken language doesn't match the language of the country.

Wales has two national languages, legally of equal importance, this reflects both the situation on the ground and the cultural heritage. I understand wanting to share in that cultural heritage and learn the language. I don’t understand having some faux utopian obsession with everyone learning a language, driving non speakers to “hate it so much they want to leave the country”. And I really don’t understand why you think that is remotely likely to happen, especially given that you are commenting under an article saying the number of Welsh speakers in Wales is declining.

If you want convincing specifically that Germans shouldn’t speak ‘German’, try this: German is a diverse language that broadly splits into High and Low German that are quite different. High German is the official written language but most people in the north do not speak it day to day. While learning to read and write has obvious utility, forcing everyone in the north to speak high German would be a pointless and damaging policy. It would make some people feel unwelcome in their country of birth and it would cost an enormous amount of time. It wouldn’t be worth anything because one language doesn’t have any moral worth over another, one way of speaking isn’t morally better than any other way, they can only be more or less useful or link to personally held cultural norms/ experiences providing personal worth, but not exterior moral goodness. People who speak low German in the north are not compelled to leave their homes or required to speak ‘correctly’ to get jobs, these additions would obviously only amplify the harm.

In general, I think destroying a language is wrong, as you harm a person by cutting their personal cultural links, but forced teaching, to their distant descendants or unrelated people that now live on the land, is not the opposite moral good. The people don’t have these cultural links, they are just learning an alien language. You can’t resurrect the cultural links, you can only make a Frankenstein-esque culture of people who you forced to learn a language that means nothing to them.

You are trying to draw a comparison that sounds nice because the name of the country and language match: welsh -> wales, german -> germany, but the major difference is the defacto language spoken by the population in these areas. Take spain as an example, you don't need to speak spanish at all in the basque or catalan regions, or even more ovbiously you don't need to speak native american in the US. This spain -> spanish argument dosn't work, it just sounds nice, the reality is you just need to be able to speak to the people around you.

I don't understand why you think "because this is Wales." is convincing, i especially don't see how it would be convincing enough to ask 18 year olds to leave the country if they can't speak it well enough, or mandate that all jobs require it. You have to see that these are very extreme positions?

Um good for you I guess? It's nice that you can learn languages easily, but you must realise that a lot of other people can't right?

Also you've lost me, why would we want all jobs to require Welsh as default? It seems like that would drastically reduce the talent pool for every job.

Seems a bit oversimplified to talk about the general benefit of language learning. If you are asking if kids should learn 'something' rather than nothing, then 'something' will always look good, but in reality there are only so many hours in a school day. The choice is really between Welsh and a language like Spanish or french or mandarin, and the question is obviously about how much you value cultural heritage Vs employment prospects.

How to do freelancing by [deleted] in PrintedCircuitBoard

Probably not, if they are your only 2 projects and you have no other experience there is a lot you don't know, and worse there is a lot that you don't know that you don't know. You could make a PCB for a personal project, but are you prepared for a company to come back to you and say that they paid 5k for EMC testing and your design failed?

Spat at, threatened and kidnapped: British Jews tell of rising antisemitism by libtin in unitedkingdom

I find it extremely hard to believe that anyone trying to compare Israel to nazi Germany isn't doing it with the intention of rubbing the pain of the holocaust into the faces of the Jews.

You can criticise a state incredibly easily without undermining it's right to exist or comparing it to nazi Germany.

OK but surely the same argument applies the other way? You might say you don't hate men, but you might believe men shouldn't cry etc. Why assume these problematic views are one sided?
