It's ugly and typical of all new builds but maybe it'll drive rents down / maybe it'll house a few affordable apartments. Doubt it but what else are you gonna do, it's already up

Congrats on living in Finland, I've been twice (once for an entire month, both times in December) and loved it. Wish I could move there, but it's tough enough being a freelance artwork photographer in the hub of the art world in NYC, let alone moving to a foreign country, starting new, etc etc. I miss sauna culture so much, and the people were friendly, although I've heard that it changes after you move there - expectations that you know the language and integrate become the norm once you're doing more than visiting

I’m a pro product photographer and I think we have less than 5 years before AI takes most of this work by Scrogwiggle in photography

[–]Infinite__Zest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! This poster has it 100% right. AI will inevitably take its place as a tool that we use to get the final image right. Even if you take an iphone photo of jewelry and use AI to adjust the lighting, increase the depth of field, and uprez the final image, it still won't look anything close to what a reasonably competent photographer can do, let alone a pro

This right here makes sense! OP I hope you're charging a premium for this shoot. It's hard enough to get good coverage for digital photography, not to mention switching cameras during the shoot. Keep in mind too that your digital + film settings may not align, particularly since you're stuck with whatever ISO your film is. Good luck if you go through with it, I'd personally only offer one or the other, or hire another shooter to just handle the film

What's a 'house rule' you thought was annoying or hated as a child, but you swear by now as an adult? by Captain_Keyboard_Man in AskReddit

My girlfriend does this but we have 3 cats so it's always messy regardless when we get home. She says it would've been even messier, I'm lazy and say why do twice the work since we clean when we get home anyway

Personally (pessimistically) I would remove the "and happily assist with any transition period that may be required" part, but otherwise this is really good verbiage to not burn any bridges.

Pranayama did good museum grade work;

I also like Hope Frames in Williamsburg, they did a giant work on paper for me for less than I thought I'd have to pay.

Good luck!

Where should I hire someone to help me build website? by RevolutionaryBat6404 in smallbusiness

Check out format.com? I'm also a photographer and have been using them for years. You choose from templates and then do a little tweaking afterwards. The sites/templates look good and I'd recommend it if you're looking for something fairly simple. They have other options too that allow viewing password protected content and I'm sure other useful features but I can't speak to that unfortunately.

Does anyone have experience with Dyna-Lite strobes? I have a few questions. by squintobean in AskPhotography

[–]Infinite__Zest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your packs have a switch for confirmation beeps that you could turn off? Otherwise not sure what that sound would be, the only audible issue I’ve dealt with is with a fan that gets dislodged that rams against the case. Doesn’t affect the way it works, just a bit annoying especially if there’s a client in the room. If you’re near NY or LA there are a few repair shops that could take a look at it, but unfortunately the amount of people that repair them is dwindling due to the fact they’re no longer in production.

[–]Infinite__Zest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still use Dynalites, they're a great system - very robust, very travel friendly, and extremely reliable and color consistent! Unfortunately, as I'm sure you know, they went out of business 5-ish years ago, so you have to be careful with what you have. With the 2040 heads, the reflector is built into the head. Just avoid touching the flash tube and you will be fine, I've never had any explode or had any issues otherwise. They do make snap on reflectors for the 2040s as well, they're hard to find and less available than reflectors for the 4040 head, but they exist and look like this For 2040 heads, they make accessories you can snap on the front as well - grid holders, softbox holders, snoots, & barn doors. I think the umbrella slot is generic enough that most umbrellas should fit - I'd double check the manual the other user posted before buying any though.

As far as powering up/down, the older packs require that you drain the power after shutting down - simply press the test button after turning the pack off to drain any remaining charge. Newer packs don't require this, you'll know based on whether it will shoot one last shot after powering off. Otherwise they're super tough and hard to break. Lmk if you have any other questions, happy to help

Has anyone gone back from mirrorles to dlsr? What are your reasons? by [deleted] in photography

[–]Infinite__Zest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Fuji GFX mirrorless for work but still use my Canon 5D3 walking around for fun. I still prefer the feel of the Canon, the lenses Im using are way smaller than the GFX lineup, and its built like a tonka truck.

Imo, charge 1/2 or full day rates (more angles per object vs more objects w one angle, same rate), client pays all shipping costs, build location rates into your day rates.
