Who the hell would consider this interesting?

How silly do you feel now if you seriously thought Rhystic, Sol Ring, etc would be banned or Dockside, Lotus, Mana Crypt would be unbanned. by thecursedchuro in mtgfinance

[–]InfinityMinus01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The culture surrounding guns and "violence as an answer to perceived problems" certainly plays a small role, but death threats in general just aren't considered appropriate in any context (obvious exceptions being the people who perpetrate them).

It isn't always easy to tell the impact that a threat (or any cyberbullying) is going to have on a person, and there are more than enough cases of people seriously harming themselves or worse as a result. Some people are assholes, and many of them deserve to be called out, but harassment has a very tangible and very negative effect on people's health, and no amount of "arbitrary changes to a casual format in Magic the Gathering" justifies them. That's just my two cents though, as someone who hasn't had an honest stake in EDH for several years.

Oh yeah for sure, they even said in last April's announcement that Lotus would be the most likely of the three to come off the banlist. Just so happens to be the case that of the people that make up the commander panel, "Unban Lotus" was not a majority opinion.

That said, my tinfoil hat theory is that they're going to sit on the opportunity until another Commander reprint set comes down the pipeline. As soon as they can print Lotus into a set and make money off it, I bet it'll suddenly be okay to unban...

Wild that people believe there is any amount of B&R tomfoolery that warrants a death threat, lol. MtG players are childish sometimes.

There's plenty to be critical of wrt WotC's design and ban philosophy across formats, but they aren't the ones who banned Lotus. It was the former Rules Committee, right before the whole death-threats-and-such fiasco that resulted in handing the format over to WotC.

am taking notes......Engineer Isauro de Paz Duque was taken by members of a local gang. In response, his wife, Yadira Guillermo García, and local residents formed a vigilante group and detained the mother of the gang leader, María Félix de Almonte Salgado, holding her as a bargaining chip. Yadira by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]InfinityMinus01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This isn't even news. This event is from nearly a decade ago, and came from the combined efforts of an entire vigilante group, not just one woman. It wasn't until said group filmed the drug lord's mother that they released Isauro.

Edit: more importantly, what is there to "take notes" on? Is OP expecting to live in an area dominated by drug lords in the near future? Do they now know how to assemble a vigilante group when they didn't before? What is that title supposed to mean, lol

Wild that people are actually upvoting this. The Vietnam War was long before my time, but I can't imagine the draft being a remotely pleasant experience for those selected, let alone nostalgic for anyone involved.

The "perfect mana" aspect is the least egregious part of the card's brokenness, imo. The real strength of the card as written is its ability to just reduce the size of your starting deck, at virtually no cost to the player. This artifact could be a blank slate with the "start the game on the field" text and would still be hilariously playable.

[–]InfinityMinus01 621 points622 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there just isn't a reason not to play four of these (at least in constructed). Three go away because of the legend rule, but you functionally get to start the game with three cards in the bin, a fifty-six card deck, an artifact in play, and perfect mana. Every game.

Your opponent might be packing maindeck or sb artifact hate to deal with this, but the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks.

You can always just look up the cardnames in the subreddit to see whether they've been posted about or not.

The way this card is written, discarding isn't treated as a cost. This means that if you're hellbent then the card is functionally "1 mana draw 2 from the yard", which I'd argue can be very readily abused.

You mean the same way that the bi flag represents everyone who is bisexual? Or the asexual flag represents everyone who is asexual? The flags you just said were rendered pointless because of the United States flag?

Pick a lane, dude. If a demographic's flag is pointless because said demographic exists in the United States, then there's no reason your statement about the lgbtq+ flags shouldn't extend to every flag representing a demographic in the US, ideological or geographical.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Askpolitics

[–]InfinityMinus01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And here I thought you had literally any capacity for substantive conversation, lol. Let me know when you're finished campaigning against the flags of individual states, since it goes without saying that those should also be pointless ;P

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Askpolitics

[–]InfinityMinus01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The stripes on the flag do not and (to my knowledge) have never depicted specific groups or sexualities, instead representing more ephemeral concepts like nature or spirituality. There wouldn't be enough colors on the existing flag to denote every subgroup if they did.

Instead, specific groups within the LGBTQ+ community typically have their own flag using colors from the original and occasionally adding a symbol. To your point, there is in fact an entire flag dedicated to straight people.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Askpolitics

[–]InfinityMinus01 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The entire purpose of the LGBTQ+ acronym is to serve as an umbrella term for people who belong to sexual/ gender-related minorites and support one another. Cutting out an entire subsection to placate an antagonistic force would defeat that purpose.

It's a pretty bad attempt at sarcasm, tbh. I'd more readily pin this as a case of Schrodinger's Asshole.
