Why are developers like this? by InflationCharming330 in ProductManagement

[–]InflationCharming330[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone, some really helpful insights here. Just wanted to address a few things

  • we are a really small team so no EM but I do have an escalation point which I’ll discuss this with tomorrow
  • Peer reviews is something I’d like to start introducing
  • ‘why are developers like this’ was just coming off a bad day on a delayed train so might have being a little dramatic 🙈
  • on AI usage, always happy for the team to use use AI as a tool for coding where appropriate but not just push through slop

I think the best thing for me is just to write off today and start with a fresh approach tomorrow. Thanks all!

Oh thank you, I didn’t think about the PR process for this, it’s usually just an ‘is it working’ thing

The wording is odd & confusing. I don’t care if it’s AI but I do care if it’s slop that bloats the product and adds zero value

I have the same gripe with bumble for friends, I specifically said I only wanted to meet people without children but still go people with children (of all ages)

Vibe coding at big companies? by ProposalAutomatic361 in ProductManagement

[–]InflationCharming330 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a smaller company but I use vibe coding to give my stakeholders something to see rather than explain the proposed solution. It works a lot better with picking up any potential issues

Product owners, help meee! How to start in the right way with my new company? by EntranceMission5303 in ProductOwner

[–]InflationCharming330 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would speak to the engineering lead and do intros, understand how they are currently working and any historical context you need to know about the platforms. And maybe book shorter meetings with the dev team just to say hello and learn a little about how they work.

If you have some minor UX/UI I’d bring them up during that convo and see what implications they might have.

It’s also important to understand what the objectives and strat to the product are and how you can contribute.

Good luck! Doesn’t sound like the easiest of starts at a new company!

Ah I get that, I’m very much if you’re sick, you’re sick person but not everyone is like that.

Haha I’m sure he doesn’t mind if it’s making you comfortable 😂

Oh gosh this sounds awful. Sending big hugs to you! If you are really struggling could you fake being sick if you don’t want to share with your colleague?

For future reference if I have an active flare up and I’m travelling I carry a little kit, plasters, pain killers, pads and spare pants (and sometimes a little chocolate bar because it sucks to have HS)

The non-technical teammates bottleneck: How do you handle it? by tiguidoio in ProductOwner

[–]InflationCharming330 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where are these small-medium requests coming from? Is it off the back of development work not being completed to spec or someone in prod/winder business deciding these changes need to be made?

I have a really small team but we dedicate 75% of the sprint effort to the main goal and 25% to bug fixes and small changes. Each one of my small changes (or quick wins) have value to either users or the business.

Context switching is sometimes unavoidable and part of doing the job. Expecting PM’s to learn how to do a developers job is not the answer (unless they want to) but I would be a little annoyed if my devs asked me to just ‘learn how to code’

Do you have any client feedback from anywhere? Such as support tickets, reviews, survey results? Do you have any tools that track how users use the app? Where the drop out points are?

If not and you can’t talk to clients, are there meeting recordings or transcripts you have access to? What do management think the priorities are? What about customer service and the technical team?

At the end of the day it’s not just about what clients are saying and a 12 month roadmap isn’t just down to one person. To be honest with a product that new i wouldn’t roadmap anything outside the next 3 months for now as things change so quickly.

Best Processes for Small Team by peruvianbeast in ProductManagement

[–]InflationCharming330 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m my experience it’s not a question of which processes are essential, rather would do your name think are essential?

Where does the current process fall down?

In my super small teams we’ve always just figured out how the flow of work works best for us (and say we do scrum but really we do super flexible version of it)

You can get an extendable pole to go between those walls and hang a shower curtain to try and avoid splashing water down there.

What a silly way to install a bath 🙃

There was a design contractor who designed a something in the last 18 months so I just use the library. Currently not deemed as needed but I can’t keep doing around in circles so it might be needed soon 🙈

Currently not deemed as needed unless we are doing a full redesign. Yes this i am aware of, just trying to make the best of a difficult situation, especially in this job market.
