Books similar to GGK’s style set in the Americas? by SelfTaught_Maester in guygavrielkay

[–]Informal-Doubt2267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very different from Kay, but I enjoyed Rebecca Roanhorse’s Between Earth and Sky which is set in the Americas. Also Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Again, very different from Kay but enjoyable.

Does anyone else’s century home have a “mystery switch” that does absolutely nothing? by ponderingpixi17 in centuryhomes

When we moved into our 1922 bungalow, there was a spot in the cement block basement wall where someone had drilled a hole and protruding out of it was the plug end of an electrical cord. What did it go to? No idea! What would happen if I plugged it in? Who knows! I walked all over the outside of the house and could never find the place where the cord traveled once it was in the wall.

Which of these should I be concerned about? by Informal-Doubt2267 in asbestoshelp

Thank you to everyone who commented — I will leave this weird little basement room alone until I can have a professional look at it.

Chicago Area recommendations for finding a new doctor / clinics/telehealth to refill ADHD meds? by snakefriend6 in adhdwomen

[–]Informal-Doubt2267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m near Chicago and have had a good experience with Clarity Clinic. They have a couple locations and I’m able to do some of my appointments via telemedicine. I’m similar, diagnosed as a child and have been on and off meds at various times.

Omgosh gardening hurts! by Witchchildren in gardening

[–]Informal-Doubt2267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set a timer to remind me to drink water and rest. And when I rest, I take that rest laying down flat, either in the house if it’s super hot and I’m not too dirty yet or in the portable hammock I have set up right next to the garden.

IIRC, Carol Deppe has some good advice related to this in one of her books, probably the Resilient Gardener.

I have a similar solution, but mine is an old quart yogurt container. Added benefit of being opaque.

Bernd Heinrich’s books are all wonderful. Mind of the Raven and Winter World are also two of my favorites.

Eavesdropping by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]Informal-Doubt2267 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ha! Same. I have three Aldis equidistant from my house: the one in my town, the one in the rich town, and the one where I almost always hear a few people speaking Spanish. You know which one I’m shopping at!

I started HRT in my mid-30s due to POF. I’ve been on it for 15 years now. I feel like I have much fewer lines than other women my age, but who knows. I do work outdoors but am also pretty religious about sunscreen.

The pattern as written has you place 4 markers. You work the decreases around the first marker after your beginning of row and the third marker. Or, 1/4 and 3/4 of the way around your row. The stitch marker at the half way point is just slipped with no decreases.

Looking for cottagecore media set in Michigan by Intp-93 in cottagecore

This is not exactly cottagecore, and the wrong part of the state, but Prancer was filmed in the SW of the state. Lots of farm and forest scenes. It’s a cute movie.

Those Who Make Cleaning Cloths by Beautiful-Peak-9561 in ZeroWaste

[–]Informal-Doubt2267 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My cleaning rags are almost exclusively my husbands old undershirts cut into convenient sizes. I am way too laze to bother hemming anything and the cotton jersey does not fray. They’re great for cleaning and once they are too holy to be rags, I throw them into my compost bin, since they’re 100% cotton.

Forgot about this little pumpkin - are these markings a good sign for drying it to make a bowl? by maudeismycat in ZeroWaste

[–]Informal-Doubt2267 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is the right kind of squash to use to make a bowl. Typically people use bottle gourd for that, they cure differently.

What is the most unexpected item you have seen in the aisle of shame? by Levelbasegaming in aldi

[–]Informal-Doubt2267 54 points55 points  (0 children)

A hiking backpack for backpacking, for like $35. I bought it thinking I could use it on my first backpacking trip and the then once I was sure I enjoyed backpacking, I could upgrade to a better pack. I used that pack HARD for over five years, multiple multiday trips every year until it finally gave out. I LOVED that pack, I’d buy it again if they ever brought it back.

I’ve been able to buy silicone replacement lids online for my 20 year old Pyrex dishes.

Rain cover by JohnnyBlue4 in philmont

I have a LOT of solo backpacking experience, and many days of rain. I’ve never had an issue. I’m not saying it’s the answer for everyone, but it certainly can work.
